Fair enough it looks like his splits really have started to invert this year. I think his defense this year should be grain of salt but overall looking at diet brantleys for cheap is in my wheelhouse.

If we get good upgrades to our pitching, would this be acceptable to the board? vs RHP: 109 wRC+ .329 OBP 15% k rate vs LHP: 117 wRC+.350+ OBP 23% k rate

The great ptatc from the moment he was drafted said something about keeping his trunk too upright in follow through* would make throwing strikes difficult and not was he right * I don’t remember if this was right but he talked about some issue a lot

If anyone really wants to appreciate bauer I highly recommend lindbergh & sawcheck's the mvp machine.
-
I'm saying combining the production between them it would > WAR but we have Engel on Arb-1 and leury on a 3.5/mill club option
-
I would put $100 down that leury/Engel could get you 1 WAR.

It's kind of nice knowing bauer is just going for biggest payday. I actually wasn't quite sure what he'd prioritize, but clearly he sees the payday as validation for all of the work he's done. I used to think cincy had a shot just due to comfort putting Boddy there. But it will be a weird offseason so we'll see what sox can put together.
-
Ha, yeah, Jirschele became manager at 27. Younger than abreu, keuchel, etc.
-
No, not next year. I maybe could live with Bauer/L Garcia/Engel with hopes of colas being ready enough the year after or seeing if blake really did turn a corner.

You have a strange way of defining young and quality. I assumed you meant young which only wheeler/cole were true on that list. McHugh is a 33 year old spot starter. Lynn is 35, Ryu is 33. I have no qualms about missing out on Eovaldi. Corbin would have been good, but that was also pre-2019 season where I don't mind them still waiting it out.

This actually is where I'm at, I just like Odorizzi more than you. But I'd actually be okay with 2 of the following, but especially if we end up L Hendricks, Treinen and depending on scouting/injury report Kela in BP (or colome but I worry about his shoulder). You could convince me on a ton of these as the piece behind Stroman (assuming bauer out of range): Brett Anderson (33) Chase Anderson (33) – $9.5MM club option with a $500K buyout Chris Archer (32) – $11MM club option with a $250K buyout Jake Arrieta (35) Homer Bailey (35) Trevor Bauer (30) Trevor Cahill (33) Tyler Chatwood (31) Anthony DeSclafani (31) Robbie Erlin (30) Mike Fiers (36) Kevin Gausman (30) Gio Gonzalez (35) — $7MM club option with a $500K buyout Cole Hamels (37) J.A. Happ (38) Rich Hill (41) Merrill Kelly (32) — $4.25MM club option with a $500K buyout Corey Kluber (35) — $17.5MM club option with a $1MM buyout Mike Leake (33) — $18MM mutual option with a $5MM buyout Wade LeBlanc (36) Jon Lester (37) — $25MM mutual option with a $10MM buyout Tommy Milone (34) Mike Minor (33) Matt Moore (32) Charlie Morton (37) — $15MM club option with no buyout Jimmy Nelson (32) — $2MM club option (can become $9MM mutual option based on innings total) Ivan Nova (34) Jake Odorizzi (31) James Paxton (32) Martin Perez (30) — $6.25MM club option with a $500K buyout Rick Porcello (32) Jose Quintana (32) Robbie Ray (29) (assume he's more but i'm interested) Garrett Richards (33) Tyson Ross (34) Jeff Samardzija (36) Anibal Sanchez (37) — $12MM club option with a $2MM buyout Matt Shoemaker (34) Drew Smyly (32) Masahiro Tanaka (32) Julio Teheran (30) Michael Wacha (29) Adam Wainwright (39) Taijuan Walker (28) Alex Wood (30) Jordan Zimmermann (35) There are interesting depth pieces this year that could feasibly perform above their heads or at least be a floor of giving legit innings which we can't guarantee Cease can.

I think this is fair, but unfortunately for his circumstances I think that 17mill is unlikely for Odorizzi this year. He gambled and lost. Overall it seems like nobody likes stroman that much, nobody hates stroman, either. He's a bit like Keuchel in more than one way there (though some really hated keuchel.) Last year I really didn't want to soak up salary on B pieces. One difference is I am a full believer that we have a big core now, and we need players we can rely on next year. But after this offseason I don't think we'll really have the flexibility to jump on an A/A+ piece if they become available in the coming years and that's a bummer. But I'd take the fact that our core is what I expected over y'know, what happened to the phils.

Definitely seemed to be a sign of straining to find anything to get the team to rally around, but unfortunately it went against everything the culture the players were trying to build in the league. (also I gotta say you could probably create quite a bit of buzz by pulling that out and promoting it, but I respect if you think that would blow things out of proportion)

Had not seen the part about the FO and Ricky after sox retaliated against Contreras.
-
I doubt this proves anything. Mask wearing is happening as people go on errands and grocery runs, but those are low likelihood anyway as exposure to any one area is low. Likelihood is vast majority of cases are likely occurring without masks, either in home, offices, gatherings or restaurants.
-
I like the splitter and sox success with sinkers recently, but with a change to pitching coach not sure if I should care about that.

Looking for our takes people. I just can’t seem to make up my mind on Stroman. I am this man personified I don’t think he’s bad. He’s kinda good. But he feels like that “solid B” free agent that Sox pay 80% of the what the A free agents get but get only 50% of the production. Is anyone really pro or really anti Stroman and could let me know what you got?
-
Yeah it's definitely pointing there.

I don't know why but the one scene of life that I miss so much is going out to meet a friend for dinner after work and getting there before them. And just sitting at the bar with a drink. Probably because I have young kids. My fantasy is sitting at a bar by myself lol.

Haven't shared this before but my mom works retail in the south. The store which is national mandated masks, her boss flouted it. My mom wore a mask but came down with it along with half the employees (guess who was the source). Thankfully, my mother's case was very mild. I think when this all pans out the viral load issue will show masks helping in that department, but we may have just gotten lucky. She took FMLA in March-May to take care of my grandparents, but after that there was nothing she could do except quit. She had to go back just as cases were rising in SC, and we assumed it would be taken care of. Had it gone worse, it would have been so bad.

I think interesting part to me is I knew a number of people affected in March, we really tightened our circle since and after april didn't know any contacts in IL who had it. Starting in september it has been really bad. Friends, family, 2nd-hand contacts all coming down with it. This recent wave has really been apparent to me. Ultimately, we've been careful and will just keep what we've been able to do to keep going. But just staring at winter and knowing it is really going to be like this for months is wearing on me.
-
This is the way we always talk in october, then the chips start to fall and you realize we won't get all of our A options and we get desperate for someone like Joc. Last october if someone had a dream offseason of grandal + keuchel + mazara + gio gonzalez they would have been crushed as overly pessimistic.
-
He's riskier than he was but there is a big difference here in that Joc Pederson's wRC+ in his career (fuller seasons) have been 116, 128, 100, 126 and 127 until this years 88. That 88 was 20% better than Mazara's 68. Mazara's wRC+'s have been 91, 87, 95, 94 and then 68. So he was never as bad as he was this year but he was never a plus offensive player. Pederson was typically 20% better than average offensively. He is riskier, but I'd certainly put 10 mill down on that while going after Springer and Ozuna. But my priority stays on pitching, i'd put reddick in OF if it meant I could get Bauer + Odorizzi.

Still not at office, but we get emails if anyone who was in the entire building gets a confirmed positive. Got maybe 3 from March to September. I've gotten one every day for last week and a half and a bunch of people who were all last there 10/9. Wondering if a superspreader event happened.
