  1. Uh I was asleep before the game began — and I wake up to one of the sexiest box scores for our best players. TA at .334 Yoan a near cycle and 4 RBIs Eloy up to .255 and another homer Jose at 33 homers and the savior — Danny mendick.
  2. Is there a pitcher that everyone is scouting too? edit: to be clear, I believe I have seen tweets of mlb teams scouting a pitcher but I could not find a google source for it. So this isn't a sarcastic "we need pitching" question.
  3. I agree, I like Nimmo. But always hard whether health issues are just a mets thing.
  4. No, for the record. Small excerpts can be okay, but paywalls need to be respected.
  5. Yes for sure. I’ll take 1 elite player over “depth” this offseason 10x over
  6. It’s not just production with Trubisky, it’s the possibility the game is still too fast and the offense keeps getting simplified for him, allowing defenses to hone in on fewer tendencies (like RPOs out of trips).

But the return doesn’t matter, the roster position does. EE exchanged hands twice (three times?) last year, moving players isn’t hard when you don’t need a return to justify the movement.
  8. hey guys there is a game thread.

Regardless it’s moveable. He won’t get a NTC

I was saying you can trade castellanos. Or not, maybe you make it work. But holding spots across seasons is ridiculous to me when we are only taking about b- free agents on 2-3 year deals.

We can always trade away players when one comes knocking on the door.
  12. Especially when a study showed it is quite literally the best investment you can make in player acquisition.
  13. Uh, sure, your post was clearly acting as if it was comparing what EE will make on the market next year to JD and not the contract he already signed. (also you claimed he was 4 years younger and now writing he's 5.5 years younger as if it was obvious the point you were making by listing the current age difference). At the time it seemed EE took a discount to be a contender, but it has shown to be a durable ceiling on no-position sluggers post chris davis. There wasn't a more consistent hitter than EE for years being around 150 wRC+, then suddenly dipping to 135. JD Martinez ballooned last two years and then dips this year to a still nice 140 wRC+. He would not opt out if it wasn't likely to exceed his current 3/62 (hey, that looks familiar?! but he was young and a good hitter?), but it's not certain to what level GMs will be more comfortable with - higher AAV/shorter deal or a lengthier contract.
  14. Do you understand how time works?
  15. is that right? I thought it was 3/63 https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/j.d.-martinez-8690/
  16. The EE contract makes sense but that's essentially his current deal. So, will be interesting to see what he does.
  17. And I also would not be upset if they did not have a top 15 guy (there are only 15 !) as long as they had a large quantity and mix of some more expensive ones. I really liked 2016s pre Robert! I think 2015 was great! 2019 cannot happen again. edit: even though 2015 without tatis did not perform that great, they had a decent sized class with some interesting players that didn't perform. It happens.
  18. Yes, our offense is not good. Take the upgrades and figure it out later (so long as, with the Rockies, you aren’t taking a SS/CF and putting him at 1b)
  19. Seriously. The tigers were more old school under him, but he hired Alex Cora. Does anyone actually believe he’s Anti or just didn’t utilize them until Boston.
  20. Here is my fear: - The reporting of Badler that it has gotten to the point teams are negotiating with 13-14 year olds - Jerry Reinsdorf, already a skeptic of spending money on “crapshoot” 16 year olds refuses to allow Sox to play that field - Jerry ties his own organizations hands in international so he can have bigger bargaining power in next CBA to install a draft. - Meanwhile sox lose out on best pipeline to keep infusing talent while competitive, and lack prospects to trade and hit ceiling of budget too soon. obviously point two is my theory, but Sox have jumped on opportunities to sign older talent in international while always saying what a crapshoot signing 16 year olds is.

I mean what if yanks made Stanton available... He is a lot of the worst tendencies of the Sox, but there are few options and he offers some very high end (and low end) years. would not cost crazy talent
  22. Ben Cherington and Alex Anthropoulos have both taken special asst. jobs while they waited for an opportunity. This team has like 14 special asst to the GM. There is no limit to the amount of special assistants so long as Jerry likes them.
  23. That's a good example of how I have a visceral negative reaction to whenever someone comments like "if we just got average production instead of the negative current production, it's a huge improvement!". It's like the biggest jinx that the player will somehow be an even worse producer.
