  1. I actually meant Jefferson Mendoza but yeah Delgado really turned it on last few weeks. Comas/Weaver were good last year meh this year, Delgado/Mieses were meh/bad last year and pretty good this year. Harvin Mendoza really strong.
  2. that's way too hard now. They can soak in some contract relief specifically for this year and maybe next, but 3 years of a player who may not be the same after the ACL/aging curve is a lot to ask. If you trade for mccutchen you are saying that's your RF of next 3 years.
  3. At this point I feel like the sox need proven pitching more than anything else. Not as concerned with filling the coffers below, and just hope players like thompson, dalquist, and stiever can move up the ladder. And getting the best player back can always be used as a piece for better pitching later.
  4. I felt same but I have been impressed with this years performance. He appears to have beaten some of the Virginia out of him and his k rate and bb rates are worth exploring.
  5. cold streak for yolbert. Bit of a cold streak for bailey too. Mendoza has been so good this year. Really wish he was in AZ, ivan g was in G falls, and goldfarb was receiving less PT.
  6. I'd guess it has to be within same calendar year to protect if the comp balance teams changed in an upcoming CBA at least right?
  7. I didn't say they would, but I guess I'm saying don't pay the same package you would have given for stroman that you would give for gonzalez. But different people will value players within that 8-20 range differently so I can't tell you what hits my threshold and doesn't easily. I'm not sure I would be heartbroken if they traded steele walker for gonzalez, but I would be pretty bummed if we sent out stiever, even though it's more likely walker has some ML burn than stiever to this point.
  8. I agree with this. The only thing that would interest me is comp balance picks and i don't know if there are restrictions if those can be traded.
  9. Mentioned it, but what always scares me is how much they want you to pay for control vs. talent. Stroman is more talented but at 1.5 years. Marco is less talented but 3 (is it 3.5 or 2.5?). I don't really want to pay a premium for his control.
  10. I think there just needs to be some bridging of the gap with people here. Some fans are used to using stats descriptively because that's often how they used them growing up. In this view, Alex Colome's 21 saves are important because it underscores how we watched him come in 21 times and finished with the win. Same with RBI, each being tied to watching the batter come up and end up with a runner scoring at home. These are re-enforcing the description of the season as it occurred and the memories tied to it. But what those stats are not answering is "how good is player x". And that's a question many on here and in baseball fandom want to answer because it helps us understand the game better, helps us enjoy the game more, and part of that is due to wanting to theorize how to make the best team possible. I think everyone here enjoyed Scott Podsednik having 38 stolen bases before the ASB in 2005, which led to him being an all star. But that didn't mean that he was one of the best outfielders in the game. And this gap happens were people feel like they are diminishing the things a player did in fact do, when really it is just trying to answer a different question. It's awesome Colome has come up 21 times in the 9th and shut it down. It was fun to watch. But if I'm a GM trying to trade for the guy I don't get to transfer those 21 saves to my team. I'm trying to figure out if the guy I acquire will nail it down for me. That's what the "statniks" are trying to understand: how much of a players performance is indicative of their talent, and how much is indicative of the context it happened in.
  11. When people do slashes like that it's typically a "one of". So they are proposing a two player deal.
  12. trade winds should be strictly moderated to only allow people to discuss trades that will go through.
  13. That was a very informative write-up on Mieses. Really have enjoyed the work pipeline guys have been doing this year. Their write-ups have been very helpful on what players need to do to improve. Especially for that backhalf of 15, super helpful when we have less info to go off of.
  14. Looks like jays are definitely going to be the team that jump the market, committed to getting what they can for their ml pieces now and not being too concerned with getting what they believed fair market was.
  15. This is my main concern. Kick tires all they want, save your ammo though for a difference making position player.
  16. Yeah I actually would like this, but definitely don’t really know price. It doesn’t feel like many contenders are looking for a mid season addition of a guy like this. But do not overpay for additional control at the deadline.
  17. I’m actually not disappointed in Bush and Sosas season with the exception of some late injuries or fade. You can’t push for aggressive assignments and be upset when there are the correct adjustments. Either one would have been fine starting in rookie ball. They had some streaks of power. The big adjustments will happen in offseason.
  18. So...Gladney homered again
  19. This surprises me. Having seen Cease up close he's a legit 6'2, I don't remember lopez being so close in height to him when they are near each other.
  20. Uh yeah I uhh probably thought I was still in the Mazarin thread
  21. Oh, my bad, I thought he was talking about lopez
  22. And the ones that are are most likely going to be from the 2016 classes.
