2019 MLB Draft and Signing Tracker
I hope Glass signs, but the quality of the three you mentioned isn't really that appealing to me. This isn't trying to get Mo Hampton in the 13th round. These guys are not even in the top 500 prospects from BA, and we wouldn't even have that much savings to go after them. It's not franchise crippling but the high schoolers we are talking about getting aren't like, that great of backup plans.

International Scouting Philosophy of Marco Paddy
This is true, and frankly I'm not sure how to square the idea of frustration that we haven't gotten enough out of our international pipeline while also it is impressive to have generated two top ten prospects out of it (Tatis Jr, Robert). But part of my issue is I just don't think it functions that well outside of older Cuban talent. Theoretically the sox will give credit to this group for Abreu, Tatis, and Robert. We, unfortunately, feel very little benefit to having had tatis. And we do benefit from Robert and Abreu, but that is a pipeline nearly dried up (older, cuban professional players). And the best successes to date we've had from the traditional market (which again, is probably not fair to exclude Tatis from) is Adolfo, who was a premier signing. I'd say our best work has been when we've tackled the top of the market, but you could also say the sox have only done so when paddy has provided a high recommendation. But why I say they do one thing and say another is that they really missed out in getting a monster signee class that has fueled some other farm systems. 2016 in total dollars is large due to Robert, and I am high on due to Sosa, Comas and Mieses. But we did not go way over as many did for a 40+ person class, and even 15 and 14 and 13 were fairly modest in terms of numbers. Robert, at this point, may very well all be worth it. But as we returned to the market I wanted to stock up on a bigger class, exactly what you mentioned, and instead they are going after an older, more secure prospect with half the budget. Paddy's scouts clearly have some eye for talent, I just wish they'd take more chances.

2019 MLB Draft and Signing Tracker
Well, considering they took seniors for 5-10 that would be a huge screwup but regardless he’s signing

So the thing is though they haven’t really stocked up on the second tier talent. Six have done a lot of say one thing and do another.

I did not expect Thompson to sign for more than Goss.

6/24 Games
I had missed in futuresox AZL writeup that Bryan Ramos went straight to AZL and is there as a 17 year old. Here's to hoping he can be successful.

6/25 Games
DSL lost. Bailey 1-2 with 2 BBs, Edwin Peralta with a 2b. Laureano 3-4, hitting well to start off, 18 and repeating though.

Yoelkis Cespedes
Well he is 19, and his brother filled out quite a bit while keeping his athleticism and speed. If he signs for 1.5mill that's a pretty good gamble.

Yolbert Sanchez to Sox??
Well, he already has an mlb ready skill. I'm sure they look at it like they could spend 2.5 million for a sure something vs spread it around and more likely never see the guys get above A ball. It is frustrating because I'm sure they look at it and say they've done a great job knowing when to attack the more mature players when they arrive on the market on intl. But at the same time they have just failed to develop any pipeline of the cheaper, younger talent that has been dominating the league recently and can provide unbelievable surplus value. And there is a chance that he developed something to make him...sign. Whatever. Please just be good. What's done is done.

5'9", but also, by all accounts he has power and speed. There are enough outliers now that this isn't that big of a deterrent to me.

We can always trade for more space on 2019 class. Unclear if we are close to using our full allotment on J2 signing day.

The MVP Machine
There is a thread on this book in futuresox forum. It is an excellent book. As even seen in the book though, the sox are mentioned, but they are trying to play catch-up. Matt Lisle was hired as a hitting analytics coordinator, but the astros have integrated that with every coach in their system. But a lot of the book is about driveline and trevor bauer, and about how players may now have the resources to control their own development, too. The stuff on pitch design (using edgartronic) that bauer basically invented along with kyle boddy are really fascinating. And that's the stuff you read, and think "oh are the sox doing this to help Burdi re-discover his slider faster?". And you hope so! There is also a part on k-vests, which the mariners bought a ton of, that you read and think "oh shit buy one for Madrigal!". But you don't know that the sox aren't, but I woudl guess they are more providing resources for players to follow than being as prescriptive as some of the teams like Rays/Astros/Dodgers and now twins.

July 2, 2019 The Thread
I mean, they don't have a shortstop underneath anderson in the organization aside from Mendick (stretch) until you get down to A-ball and even then that's an unknown. Obviously, there is Madrigal. I just worry most, considering how they jump and throw resources at older Cuban talent, that they undervalue the international market of 16 year olds and overvalue players they can "see", which was my issue in the draft avoiding HSers until this year too. But if they got a positive rating from Paddy, they do what they gotta do. I hate it but oh well, I really hope he transformed while he was away from baseball.

definitely the first shortstop to have a first baseman catch low throws from him.
