Dallas Keuchel signs one year deal with Braves
bmags replied to SweatyFreddy's topic in The Diamond Club
After the poor offseason it seems the rationale for going after manny/bryce has shifted. I do not want the white sox to just spend money to spend money, and stay around a a budget in line with previous just because. I wanted an influx of young, cost controlled talent, and the use of additional budget to add elite, top of market talent. I think I was one of the few who actually liked Keuchel in the offseason, but he was less logical the longer the delay. We can go after him next offseason if he plays well for the same role. It actually worked out better. But I don't want them to go out and sign 5 mid tier free agents to get to $130 million just to say "see, we spent". That's how we end up as the 2015 white sox. That logic was the "if we just turn these negative war positions into just 0 war it's a big win!" Not so much. -
I had to start a thread on it, because for those interested in player development advances, this has been a fantastic read: https://www.amazon.com/MVP-Machine-Baseballs-Nonconformists-Players/dp/1541698940 Excerpt from the ringer: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/6/3/18644512/mvp-machine-how-houston-astros-became-great-scouting About half-way through it, one of the best baseball books I've ever read.

Ugh.

Where is Nick Madrigal at in his development?
bmags replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not sure where he's at now. He was at a 6.5 60 yard dash out of high school which is about 70 grade. I'd imagine that's a bit slower now. -
I think it's dumb regardless of its effect on the white sox. If you are bad you get earlier dibs on the prospects, should get larger pools for international. Maybe increase the amount for bottom 10 teams int he draft that they can spend on players in rounds 11-40 without counting against their cap, from 125k to 200k. But this is way too large of an advantage, again, we can see the incredible value still assigned to 2nd round picks in free agency. To just hand them out for free, along with revenue sharing and all the other benefits, is too much.

FS Breakdown: 3rd and 4th Round Picks Andrew Dalquist and James Beard

Also it’s weird they are a dime a dozen but you can only mention one, who has made quite a career out of literally only one skill. -
Starting to wonder about twitter.

Love how people are chastising posters for reacting to a 2 month sample because they had a single good game.

I wonder if it’s Visa related

Sanchez 4-7 Benyamin Bailey 3-5 with a walk (17 y.o., on fire to start season) I forgot Lazaro Leal (1b) was a guy because he's 22 but he came from Cuba in December. He was 2-3 with 3 walks and is hitting .471 so far with a 1.415 OPS I bet you thought there were homers in this game (nope) Wilber Sanchez had a triple though.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
bmags replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
BA is really high on Anderson and really low on Pache, usually reversed by the others. BA is still very preferential to pitching while others have started to downgrade it. -
I am...uh, VERY excited to get the DSL box score today, which is currently in the bottom of the 9th with an 18-13 score, has to have gone on for like 4.5 hours. And in DSL fashion, the DSL sox have less hits than runs.

Pache is one of the best defensive centerfield prospects in baseball. Rutherford is a likely left fielder. That's a huge difference. -
That is very annoying. I would not trade for him. Money? Woulda risked it.
-
At the very least, doesn't sound like it's too money-related.
-
First off, obviously I wrote that on a phone, my goodness. It may depend on how depressed his signing would have been pre-draft (not sure it would have been), but between him being paid market and the decline he showed in september, we just aren't talking about the same Kimbrel we were 3-4 years ago.
-
Also it's clearly not helping teams keep their talent, it's only benefit would be player salary suppression.
-
The same market that puts Bruce at a random A+ guy is what puts Santana at a not very good prospect.
-
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/08/2019-20-mlb-free-agents.html this had him as a free agent this upcoming offseason.
-
Oh, dude, I wouldn't give anything like that for santana. If you don't get him at the right price you move on.

The interesting thing to see when he arrives is how much he has progressed. Kiley mentioned he didn't even make area codes last summer in a not particularly competitive area. But the BA writeup and hostetler mentioned significant improvement in bat this senior year, but against crap competition. He's raw regardless, but will be interesting to see how his progression translates. -
He's going to be 30 with one good year. If he's bad you move on. If he's good you get production.
-
That's why he's a stop gap.
-
Well, no, that would be a 2nd rounder.
