They had that absolute quicksand couple of weeks in april where it seemed they lost every game (add to that, some injuries). Schedule has been very favorable to sox, but the highs that will come down a bit from Anderson/Moncada (though I don't think Moncada will be much different, probably just degrees less) will be met by some resurgence from some unlikely-bad starts from others. McCann will probably have a rough month soon. His production against RHP is outta nowhere.

In that blackhole that has been birmingham, Ti'Quan forbes homered today and now has a pretty interesting stat line. Forbes is only 22 years old, and was acquired for I want to say Miguel gonzalez in 2017. So far in Birmingham he's batting .250 / .354 / .353 for a .704 ops. He only struck out 15% of the time last year, and this year in 79 ABs he's only k'ing 17% of the time. However, his walk rate has quadrupled from 3% to 13% this year. He already has half the walks he had all of last year. His power still needs to arrive, and it'll be tough in birmingham, but that is a much different profile than we are used to seeing.

The White Sox have been very bad at free agency and I would like to see even low stakes signings like this accomplish the job they set out to accomplish which was get below average, but consistent innings and production while being nice clubhouse guys. There was several guys they could go after, and once again, their scouts identified a player that could not come close to accomplishing that. That they didn't sign Lance Lynn to also be bad isn't something I'm prepared to congratulate them for yet. I want to see just some baseline competency of "we signed this guy to a deal, will give him opportunity, and while not good, was an mlb player, not aggressively bad."

I wouldn't go this far. Let's remember he was very bad last year and bad this year, and the purpose was to get a stabile, consistent vet that wouldn't get us into short inning blow outs. Brett Anderson, Martin Perez or Buchholz are not great but have provided some decent starts this year.

Feels like there was a handshake deal, between the rushing to get him up for the deadline to turning down the assignment despite it being very unlikely there would be a comparable second deal (but perhaps he is going to retire rather than actually live life as a minor leaguer). But strange that they would do a handshake deal, probably just idea that he's made a lot and doesn't want to go through that at this point.

Yeah it's not yet, and I hope it won't be, so much of a heelturn that you hate her. But she clearly values respect through power more than respect through honor, as Jon does. This is seen in Essos where she crucifies the slave owners (not bad per se!), the dragons with the Tarleys, the instinct to user her dragons directly on Kings Landing (again, right strategy, better than Jons 'lose every battle and get bailed out by your sister' one), and then in the North demanding respect from Sansa and the storyline about whether she cares more about her people or the crown. Those are interesting questions that I don't believe are planted for no reason. There is going to be questioning from Jon over whether Dany would want the crown at all costs, and be not much different than Cersei when she has it.

But the question won't be whether Dany has the stronger legal claim, it's whether Jon will end up continuing to believe Sam that Dany will be a bad/vindictive ruler like her father, and using his own claim to stop her. It will be whether the song of ice and fire will be about jon, or if it's jon and dany together.

Well they haven't disappointed or we'd here, and they almost certainly putting up crazy numbers but it's not worth paying attention to because every high schooler is right now.

I don't hate the Raiders draft, but it felt a lot like the sashi browns drafts to me. I think they should have traded current draft capital for more future draft capital.

One thing that twitter seems to be picking up on now is those that streamed on hbo go did not see an episode nearly as dark as those that saw it on cable, due to digital compression. We were streaming it and it was dark but I didn't quite get how people were saying it was unwatchable.

Personally, I liked it. The sniping about the battle plans I find pretty weak. I don't know how you could have watched it and not have been convinced that it was an unwinnable battle. They also spent an episode saying that, and announcing their whole plan was just to delay and hope they could decapitate the night king. Then they spent an episode showing how impossible it would be to defeat an army like that with tactics, and instead the shows magical and prophetical elements takes care of it. The worst thing they could have done is betray the characters they've built for 10 years. That's what last year was doing. Im not upset they didn't kill more characters. The best deaths, the ones that were subversive, were good not because they were just nihilistic but because they made sense and set things in motion. Just dying in a battle isn't that interesting. And also, glad they cleared the board of the night king. He wasn't interesting, it was never interesting. It certainly would have been better to have a reason for him to do things, but when the only way he could communicate it is through a monotone delivery (bran), or suddenly having the night king talk (would be terrible), or having sam in a book run up after having discovered that the symbols mean they just wanted friendship and they apparate out, meh. The last 3 episodes now can be all political squabbles, and I think they set the stage well for the struggle and frustrations Dany will have to follow through on her claim after losing her armies.

Yeah, it's hard. They are in organized ball and the competition is so weak it doesn't matter. Abrams had some profile tournaments he was fine in. The important thing was nothing changed about their bodies that led scouts to believe they couldn't tap into their potential. These guys both have been heavily scouted. Its not like a kelenic/adell that were a bit punished for being northern prospects and still had to prove it a bit throughout the year.
