I really like that. No reason league can't just provide supplementary picks for competitive balance (due to fa loss). My complaints here are merely from an entertainment perspective, and this totally accomplishes that.

Rosenthal: Could Harper be headed to the southside
bmags replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here's my variation of this argument (to which I agree with you), I'm worried that hitting on the 2018 class was a big part of their plan. If they strike out, I'm worried that they haven't made up for it by finding enough talent in latam or the draft (and to this point I'm comparing them to the padres during the same time). So if a big part of this was using freed up money to buy elite, younger talent, then it will suck if they fail, because it means relying on our farm to create another elite bat. -

Here is my case: Having a bad contract is only bad if you need to turn your assets into younger, valuable assets. If you just need to turn it into freeing up cash, you can move it. You may not move all of it, but you could find a team that's like "yes I could try to get the rest of Bryce Harper as my DH if we make the money work". If the sox suck and are saying "shoot we need to rebuild, we need to get what we can for Bryce Harper", then they are screwed, but that is the case anyway. -

Re: Harpers D I found this article plausible for why his defense fell off: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2018/11/20/18104199/bryce-harper-free-agency-defense Lindbergh attributes it to easing off gas to stay healthy in a FA year with some stuff to back it up. -
What is this? I saw you post something earlier but not sure I understood. Saying that if you sign in first month it's no draft pick attached, second month it kicks in, etc? Or just that it accelerates.

I thought it was clever. Also my shift key is broke so capitalizing multiple words in a row was very difficult. I'm really not appreciated enough around here. -

Because they will see there was a big rosenthal article dedicated to the latest. And if A new standalone news but appears, a new thread will also be created. -

To answer your question: 1) Because that's the way the owner likes the site run 2) Because not everyone can follow the news throughout the day, so megathreads can be daunting to wade through 60-70 posts like "cool" "i can't read it" "hell sign here if we pay", and this allows them to follow biggest new info -

My source just wrote me an article and i'm posting it here, please don't post it anywhere else. https://theathletic.com/707254/2018/12/11/rosenthal-the-white-sox-have-the-resources-to-sign-bryce-harper-now-will-they-break-character-and-go-for-it/ Going to slowly move all the old posts to this. Enjoy your new Harper thread. -

It's true! That's why I included it. But it was a nice counterpoint to the confidence of his executives. But that he may be giving his execs this much freedom may just indicate he's not sure they can win but he did give them permission to get them to the finals to see what it takes. -
No it's not (the same as it was). But it's better than what happens next. You really can't expect fans attention for that entire offseason to pay attention to the cold war chasing of ...like cody allen. It just needs to be more consolidated and fun. This was supposed to be one of the bigger classes ever, with tons of teams freeing up cash. And...it's like slightly better than last year.

Warm buckets Maybe people will consider this as everytime someone doesn't cheerlead the sox to sign someone they cry about how the media hates us. -

Here's the cold water bucket for the day: and here's the warm buckets of water: -
You have said this last few years, but it is the only concentrated time of activity during the offseason. It clearly spurs some activity, and after its over ...the offseason is over. It's a slow trickle of deals until March.

Update per Heyman: White Sox one of 3 teams meeting Machado
bmags replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No it’s poorly written (nightingale) it’s just saying Showalter gave a good review, who was a former Yankees and Orioles manager -
Seems to be same theme, once teams identify the total player market and player hasn’t signed, they all hold their ground while player keeps trying to create leverage by waiting for market around to shrink but it doesn’t because every other player has same thing happening. This is a good bullpen class. The teams are going to make them all squirm until February. There is no urgency and no worries when they know they are competing with only 8 teams adding not 30 in free agency.

MLB has to do something about their FA period. When your fans are all clamoring for action in an offseason month, listen to the fans.

Realmuto to the Phillies - Sanchez/Alfaro+ to Marlins

I would too. "Hey...no no this is a great deal for you. Anytime you can trade away the best established player in the trade to get the player you want with less control you do it" -

Getting Paxton and Thor in one offseason without really giving up a prospect that hurts you that much is pretty incredible. Andujar is obviously very talented offensively. -

Congrats. -
I wonder if Rick will hear 3-way trade and come-a runnin in.

So embarrassing. Somehow they have surpassed previous embarrassing moments known as Paxson punching out a coach and Portis punching out his teammate.

Best game of all time.
