While you shouldn't try to undercut new coach right away (you should wait until months from now!), this is still embarrassing to me.

Castillo the starter, Sox still looking to add

That sentence could mean literally anything. -
I wonder if Fred gets fired if not for Zenni Opticals new jersey patch money.
-
That was there for the taking.

Did she go to Iowa State?
-
That's valid, but between Narvaez and Smith, now crawford, it's clear he's still valuing players even if their control is for <6 years. He has zero farm, so I'm not sure I quite get it, but at very least he may be looking to develop those players prior to shipping them off.
-
Swarzak makes 8 million this year. He was taken on to offset Cano. Smith is pre-arb and was the headline piece in trading Zunino.
-
Why would Seattle trade Smith after just (re)acquiring him? He will cost you. And sox have not had much success seeing numbers for players on Tampa translate to the white sox.
-
I'm really not confident that is the case.
-
The contentious pieces were renegotiated in TPP by opening up other markets for them. Otherwise known as "the single worst deal in history".
-
Well I think the point stands that at this point of the rebuild I don't think anyone should expect to do backflips over trades for market-priced relievers at deadline. They add backend system depth and are lottery tickets, but yeah, the idea of flipping him isn't going to be franchise altering without unreal luck.

Which is why I think the good news here is this may mean that the president and gm realized that it wasn't just Hoiberg who was under a microscope for this season.

Sure, but why hire hoiberg if you were never going to give him a team that suits his vision? You don't have to supply him with the perfect pieces, but they supplied him with players specifically incompatible with his playing style (and much of the nba trends!)

Mariners to send Segura to Phillies for Santana/JP Crawford/others?

I saw swarzak was out of it, but yes, may be neutral. -
Paxson made a lot of promises to ST holders this year. I know a few that got phone calls that bulls wouldn't tank this year. So, I do not believe Bulls intend to take advantage of their bad start in order to land Zion or Barrett. OTOH, I do think if Bulls cannot put a respectable end of year together Paxson could legitimately be out.

And Jabari Parker was also a SF. When I see stuff like that I see Fred trying to show the front office that the player they said is worth developing sucks, and once he proves it moves on to the next guy. He also had parker play SF for 3 preseason games before moving on, after all summer Forman and Paxson saying he could play SF. People not payed could see that was false, but Hoiberg had to play along for a bit. Everything in your second paragraph is team construction. Fred likes pace, moving the ball, three pointers. He has no point guard that can play with pace, a bunch of ball dominant players that love mid range jumpers. They actually have tried schemes on defense, Parker doesn't know them. Lavine gets lost too often. The only good player is WCJ. You couldn't put a worse basketball iq team together than the 2018 bulls without lauri/dunn.

Notre Dame had the 63rd hardest schedule. UCF had 83rd. Clemson? 76. #banclemson
-
Hoiberg actually did do this after GS game. They just have a roster collection of some of the worst defensive players in the league. Sorry, you aren't going to convince antonio blakeney to focus on defense.
-
There are a lot of bulls fans, and I think you are just hearing two different sides. But, if you were gonna fire fred, you should have fired him before season, or after he had chance with his actual roster. F
-
I kinda agree with the sir, kinda not. I do think there is too much pressure by casual fans who always have an instinct to protect an underdog story. Even when some bigger programs are bad, the away environments in some schools are so much tougher than in smaller conferences. UCF though is probably a top fifteen team. It's just a matter of what the playoff is supposed to do.

So if you are the head coach at Iowa State are you nervous right now? -
I think even in optimal circumstances hoiberg probably wouldn't have been a top ten coach, as when the offense looked beautiful it has been questionable how coach or player driven it has been (See mirotic), but that said every year the front office undercut what hoiberg is good at for players they find talented. A truly good coach could have made some of the pieces work better, but why hire hoiberg if you don't want his system? Giving a guy who wants to space and shoot threes a team of butler, wade and rondo was hilarious, then refusing to find him a point guard that can push pace and shoot even better. Then, give him a bunch of ball dominant forwards and wings that don't feel need to play defense. That's definitely fred's dream. If you were a good coach, why would you want to join a front office that will undercut you at every step of the way?

Age/injury and specifically how injuries may cause a bigger decline in defense. I like what he has been as a player, I don't want to bank on getting the "best of" brantley production.
