This is nuts. I’d take that deal easily. You are in trouble when you need talent back for a player that is already expensive. You could take that trade, send out Heyward for nothing but some cost because Sox don’t care about appearances of salary dumps, Spin out Happ for prospects, and then have acquired Contreras for essentially money plus prospects/better fits for Happ. Cubs need to trade out that talent because they need that full cash back. Sox don’t. They can unwind it and swallow the bad Heyward contract/trade. There are many possibilities at any point. Acquiring or signing a player for 4 years $100 million doesn’t mean the only scenario is for the next four years you must start that player and pay them that amount. There are many possibilities at any point, things are not in a time sealed vacuum.

Interesting. Soxtalk loves moving outfielders to 1b.

I think the most overblown tendency on soxtalk is to prematurely move every player that doesn't get a glowing defensive report to first base.

Trade war suspended, for 90 days at least
I don't believe there was any justification of the tariffs as a revenue raising technique, it was about shoring up manufacturing and decrease trade deficit. Deficit has increased, manufacturing appeared to be doing fine on its own. It may shore up specific, very specific groups, and cost many more others. There are some protections vs China worth having but to me its clear TPP was a better strategy to just ensure non china markets were as westernized as possible.

Eovaldi signs with Red Sox
Ultimately Boston has won a world series so they are better at this, but because they are in win now mode I like Eovaldi less. On other hand, perhaps they can ease him into season to make sure he's ready to go again in playoffs.
