  1. Spreading risk in baseball means getting a lot of bad veterans you should be able to replace internally.
  2. Putting my optimist hat on, The person that makes me optimistic on Collins is Omar Narvaez. Narvaez has a supremely good batting eye. He had zero power (and certainly has a percentage uptick in contact skills, but zero power). Baseball theory would have it that pitchers, knowing he will not chase, but also that he will not punish you, would just attack the zone and he would be helpless. That didn't happen with Narvaez, while not a great offensive player for a while, he still walked, because pitchers aren't THAT accurate. Collins, it would seem, should be even more difficult. If he doesn't chase junk, they should attack zone, but he has more power to make them pay. Mainly, I don't think it's true he won't walk at major league level. I think he will. And he has more power to be more helpful than Narvaez was when he was walking but nothing else. All that, and he still may hit .200 for a while. Chris carter i guess.
  3. Yeah I think Seahawks/Vikes are least probable to happen but seahawks is shaky. edit: and this is largely because seahawks play vikes at seattle.
  4. Yeah Whitley + not even Tucker catapaults them ahead.
  5. If the Mets trade Syndegaard and don't get back a tatis or gore than ...well this is agent to GM pipeline keeps getting worse
  6. Ding ding ding... Here is where the white sox would counter: - College relief pitching scouting - International slot money trades There is also some weird stuff where our changeup usage has been super high at points, hard to know cause there and sox wouldn't say.
  7. From Miami, not my favorite org to poach talent from in terms of process, but lots of position player success in hitting past several years.
  8. It would be really great if the white sox ever tried to get out in front of something instead of consistently straining to be juuuust above average across the board.
  9. I just want to state I'm not advocating Thome be hitting coach, I just think he is a very interesting character in this organization. I think his one-on-one coaching has been more in line with restoring confidence in players than technique. Davidson was clearly under water and it seemed to be a mental issue. That he has had two years in MLB is awesome for him and was not likely 4 years ago. It's always terrible to watch when a player gets so close before it all falls apart.
  10. Saying they are in on everyone is a nice way to cover your bases.
  11. I just don’t think Missouri is a program that should move on from good enough coaches without knowing they can get someone better.
  12. I think we have enough justus sheffield type pitchers.
  13. If they are good and were pushed out because a younger player is better, you can trade them, it's a fine use of money. I'm old enough to remember when this board kept guffawing at how untradeable verlander was, or stanton, or kemp or etc etc. You don't want to be bad and needing to trade expensive veterans for talent infusion. As it is, it really won't matter. 2 years ago ATL signed a bunch of veteran, decent pitchers in trying to drum up interest for their new stadium. The prospects weren't close enough. It was a waste of money. And the moral of that story is it didn't really matter and didn't stop any future moves and ATL is fine and had no issue finding spots for talented players.
  14. Hmm..what would Jerry DiPoto want. - 4th or 5th outfielder with incredible speed - Starting pitching with poor control and health problems - Another 4th or 5th outfielder with incredible speed - Come to think of it, do you have another 4th or 5th outfielder with incredible speed? - Wait...you mean to tell me you have ANOTHER 4th or 5th oufielder? It's a deal. No, no, my god, I can turn that into a poor 5th pitcher, no we'll keep Cano.
  15. Hmm, seems like there's an obvious solution.
  16. Why would we get rid of palka?
  17. A large part of the problem has been Forman putting a collection of some of the worst basketball IQ players in history together. That said, part of Hoiberg's job is to teach them. The idea that the bulls "gave fred his team" this year was nuts at the time but even crazier now. It looks better with Dunn, but the guard situation was always awful and the idea that Fred's offense will take off with a collection of 7-8 ball dominant offensive mid range shooters with no defensive skills is questionable.

Welcome back Rock, sounds like a cool opportunity.
  19. Are teams really tanking for the draft? I’d say service time plus trying to acquire as many assets as possible is a bigger factor? Not saying it’s zero factor, especially in September, but doesn’t feel like it’s biggest.
  20. It's a one year deal. Seems pretty reasonable to me.
  21. Robinson Cano for Eric Hosmer. Saves you $3 million a year the first 4 years, then 12 million in year 5. San Diego rids itself of 5-8 years on contract and maybe get lucky with a retirement. (no I don't think this happens) edit: crap I forgot NL will be too hard without DH)
