I’m not against trading for reliever. My point is people cheering for depleting our bullpen then being shocked it’s bad. Burr was also not acquired with another bullpen piece, we could have *gasp* just had a deeper bullpen of people wanted to win so badly in August/September.

It’s not about getting away with it, one is about development one is about maximizing wins this year. But this is a development year.

Obviously this is an indication of Heymans deep and knowledgeable sources and not that he repeats whatever some agent shoots shit with him on late at night for his columns.

When it’s the playoffs or meaningful games yeah I want to see that. i don’t know, I guess I still believe that crap that Ozzie in 04 taught our pitchers how to get out of trouble by keeping them in when Manuel pulled and it paid off later when we needed them to go deep in long seasons and playoffs.

Our best reliever is in charlotte with our best hitter right now and it’s not Ricky’s fault.

Cooper has always said he goes more by when mechanics start breaking down the pitch count. Not a fan of the let them go until they fail stuff but in a rebuilding year I do want our young starters to learn how to go deep and maintain their stuff.

*sox trade away competent middle reliever for 40 year old single A pitcher* soxalk: Hooray! We saved our owner money and maximized our sweet sweet asset *trash bullpen gives up lead* soxtalk: why is our bullpen trash? Must be the manager putting the wrong trash reliever in!

It’s almost like when you purposely make your bullpen bad this happens.

Eloy's Camp Unhappy: Grievance Possible
I'm not sure we are fully aware of what the market implications would be, but for one the players could argue for more guaranteed revenue to the union, or also increase the cost of the first contracts to create more equity in the balance of vets vs younger players. There are a number of scenarios I find plausible that making the first contracts more expensive OR reducing length may have consequences in making more equitable toward players: - The long length of control (6 years) has many players signing extensions to hedge against injury - This has reduced the pool of younger and high quality players from free agency, making free agency less attractive for team building - This has made the strategy of tanking more potent because it allows a larger number of in their prime players on the team at same time, and financial flexibility to lock them up So, if FA has better potential to build teams up, more teams could spend and boost salaries. If teams are competing, they may very well be more willing to sign a vet for their bench over banking that a 23 year old kid can do same for cheaper, but less certainty.

I feel this way but also I don't see why his agents are to blame, they are acting in his best interests right now. I get where both sides are coming from, but I think it's clearly an exploitative strategy on sox part, which isn't to say it isn't by the rules, so it's hard for me to be pumped about them pursuing it.

Eloy's Camp Unhappy: Grievance Possible
I hated when Astros were doing this with players and I hate it now. I've said it before, but did sox really not think this would happen? He was good in AA but they could have avoided all of this by just keeping him there until Aug 1, then giving him last month in AAA. Just stupid on their part.
