  1. I hated when Astros were doing this with players and I hate it now. I've said it before, but did sox really not think this would happen? He was good in AA but they could have avoided all of this by just keeping him there until Aug 1, then giving him last month in AAA. Just stupid on their part.
  2. yeah, W-S playoffs should be exciting at least. The good news? Since white sox are one of few teams with instructionals games we'll probably get a bulk of the scouting notes from those games in late sept.
  3. had my auction draft last night. So weird how everyone seems to converge on same philosophies each year. Every year is different, everyone operates largely the same. I ended up (for first time) getting out in front of QBs and paying too much, but made up for it by slow playing saquon barkley and getting him about $20 cheaper than the other top RBs. But my WR crop is meh. Tyreek hill and diggs could be good but have big question marks with how they will be favored with new QBs, but i could easily see these two qbs who look for big plays going to them more often for big plays.
  4. I would not be surprised if Laz Rivera is on it, reminds me a bit of Mendick last year.
  5. Isn't it wild though how Andrew Wiggins will make like way more money than Aaron rodgers by end of his career?
  6. There are more teams trying though for sure in the east. I think only NYK, Brooklyn and ATL are tanking. I think Orlando with Gordon/Isaac/Bamba could be sneaky good, and Charlotte, DET, CLE are definitely gunning for a playoff birth. So yeah, I do think there is a better chance than 50-1, but that path will likely be from one of the top 7 teams having an injury/horrible year that leads to an unexpected tank. East is bad this year due to talent deficiency but isn't the joke it was last year.
  7. EEEHHHH nice try. Rafael Devers SUCKS! He only has a .719 OPS, good for *gulp* 16th among qualified 3b! Sandy Leon? SUCKS! No where close. Eduardo Nunez? SUCKS! 20th best second baseman! that's worse than Tim Anderson (perhaps he is an outlier) Jackie Bradley Jr? SUCKS! 17th best Cfer. Mitch Moreland doesn't qualify with ABs, but he SUCKS! not in top 3rd, just outside. WIth all those players outside the top third, that must be a trash offense.
  8. Right, this. Jays may even be nervous to extend the QO to him.
  9. Come on, no. Outliers would be trout, outliers would be adam dunn, the bottom 10 players at any given point are not outliers. I'm sympathetic to idea that Tim may be fine but has not proven he is a necessary piece to the longterm core. There is a really dynamic set of SS out there that you would upgrade over Timmy. Unfortunately that's not the argument you are making, your argument is a player who is average offensively with plus skills outside "sucks" because everyone outside the top 3rd "sucks". Good luck finding a team with players in the top 3rd at every position.
  10. Gotta be pretty cool for LaMarre, whatever happens in his career, to say he basically singlehandedly beat the Yankees for a game
  11. Yeah asking for incremental improvement for one aspect of his game is totally unreasonable.
  12. Well I would just counter that with the fact that he is so electric on the basepaths you just want him on more to utilize it. I am happy he's added this power (I always thought he connected enough to be a 20 HR guy), but his base running would allow so much more value if he got on base more.
  13. Before I read it, I'm going to guess that Amado Nunez beat out Eloy.
  14. We know Harper/Machado will be FAs this offseason, no reason to bank on Arenado being there in 2019.
  15. No guarantees obviously, but Pollock has a .840 OPS in CF, and Donaldson would hopefully give us at least an .850 bat. Imagine two more Abreu-level production pieces in the lineup. Seems good! Now, there's no guarantee they keep up their stats, but, that's why we could feasibly afford them.
  16. Or at very least exuberant prices on shorter contracts.
  17. We're deep as any? What happens if we lose a guard? We really high on Cam Payne and Holliday?
  18. I don't think Brantley can play CF anymore.
  19. It's engel/garcia and it's just an area that does not have a lot of options but has internal options you hope to come up. AJ Pollock is certainly a guy, but how much longer can he play center? Leury for life.
  20. I have to say, I'm willing to roll the dice on aging players (despite my skepticism and lots of evidence this won't work!) that I think will be reasonable value and shorter term. Sign Josh Donaldson - I'd give him the Edwin Encarnacion deal and hope it works. Sign Michael Brantley - (I have no idea if he can play RF, but that would be my plan). Sox really need to cut down on their massive amount of strikeouts. Brantley's equal BB:K rate and health in 2018 make him intriguing to me. I frankly want our W-S/Birmingham OFers to force our hand to come up, not be given a job Sign Dallas Keuchel - Keuchel will be expensive, but he seems like a pitcher that would jibe with our pitching staff philosophy and has post season cache. C - Castillo/Narvaez DH - A Garcia 1b - Abreu 2b - Moncada SS - Anderson 3b - Donaldson LF - Jimenez CF - Engel/L Garcia RF - Brantley SP - Keuchel/Rodon/Kopech/Giolito/Lopez RP - Fry, Burdi, Hamilton, Burr, Covey, Vet churn Total spend: 220million-230million 2019 additional salary: 60 million Target payroll: 110 mill? no idea.
