Draft Profile: 2B Nick Madrigal, Oregon State
bmags replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Has anyone said he straight up can't play 3rd? I get that his arm isn't plus plus, but neither is Yolmers, and he makes up for it in the same way Madrigal could, his exceptionally quick release (madrigal has fast hands). It's a question of "wasting" his athleticism there, but especially in the age of shifts I just don't buy that you couldn't play madrigal anywhere in the infield. -
One thing that has happened this year is as much as I wanted this year to allow room for a "surprise" player to happen (a la last year), I also would have zero confidence they are any good and worth keeping spots open for beyond a year.

I guess I'm okay with singer, but not if he requests over slot.

In the most successful offensive start for prospects in a sox Minor league system I can remember, I’m glad we have diagnosed that clearly Getz is a problem and ruining our prospects.
-
The Sox have never seemed to be overly prescriptive in pushing swing changes or pitching mechanics changes before they become a hurdle and Getz himself has talked about letting players figure it out. the “Sox demanded he changed his swing to suck!” is probably much more “Sox and Collins worked together on how to accomplish a path in his swing he wanted, but it ended up being counterproductive and also is part of development”

The thing that kinda worries me with Sheets is in the offseason his focus actually WAS to generate more power.
-
I thought about it too, but much more likely a team like the Royals with 600 comp picks would try to woo him with pick 2, and use excess budget on some lower cost players with remaining ones.
-
I'm not opposed to moving up Kopech, but I do find it odd that similar to Moncada they are bringing him up immediately after some difficulty rather than when on a roll.
-
Ha, eloy would actually be hilarious.
-
I just find it crazy how reasonable Trey Ms slashline is. I remember snarking when Getz at Soxfest said they think he'll be a better hitter by keeping him engaged by moving him around the infield. It kinda worked? Oh well.

Goes to show that their top 500 or so is not a mock. Alek thomas goes first round there (as he's been consistently rumored to). Interesting tidbit that Turang if he's out of top ten may be likely to go to LSU. Demanding a lot.

Him at Wrigley on Saturday, He'll be throwing like 103 his first inning he'll have so much adrenaline, let's hope he finds the plate. Cubs work counts so well, not ideal to get an outing past 5ip

Contracts make it very confusing for me, but also what is required considering the state of that relationship. No idea. Obviously Lavine is first i'd offer, but ideally you'd want Kawhi+Lauri+lottery pick -
I think I was gone when this happened. So was Flete injured and reactivated? Looks like he's mostly taking Trey M's at bats?
-
I read this and think "yeahh I'm gonna guess actual teams aren't vaulting players up and down their draft board with each week's performance"

Every manager with a terrible bullpen looks terrible. Sox lead the league in issuing walks, and are dead last in strikeouts from our pitchers. Last year our bullpen was quite good for 2/3s fo the season and remarkably we could hang around and take some late leads. Tougher when you are never hanging on. THey will be less bad than this, but maybe not that much less.
-
I think AAA will be good for him but for me AA was definitely the big test. It just seems like AA is where our hitting prospects have gone to die. His power has only slightly dropped off in that park. But his walks have dropped this year so far (could easily recover with a few 2 bb games), and that's something he can work on with the pitchers with better control in AA and AAA.
-
He was so awesome when he first came up. Sorry to see, maybe if he recommits to the game he can get healthy and find some good years ahead. I'm not sure I want us to try on some guy that has such a piss-poor commitment and attitude now.
-
That's an interesting Law tidbit. It makes me thing that maybe DH'ing has allowed him to focus on developing one specific thing to great effect. Maybe making the game smaller will pay dividends as he works on defense later.
-
One reason I advocate for moving up Booker is Birmingham will clarify all of that (and quickly) and remove one more question from our crowded outfield.
-
Thanks! I know I'm on the internet and could have googled it, but you know, in the middle of writing and easily distracted already. Totally agree on Edwards. Low power but totally a profile we are lacking. Should add that Torres was 55 on BAs list.
-
This turn of events for Basabe is just so awesome.
-
That BA list has some great names to watch around the white sox second round pick. At 49 (which is where I think we pick? I may screw this up) they have will banfield listed, the top HS catching prospect. Up and around it include JT Ginn (i like a lot, but big project), Griffin Conine, Joe Gray, Alek Thomas, Seth Beer, etc.

Bored with outcome oriented nba watching. Utah/Rockets has been very fun, celts/76ers has been fun, rapts/cavs has been a drag. The playoffs have been great, not sure it redeems the tanking.
