Nice. That's exciting for them.

I know I'm like a broken clock on this but really like when at the end of each affiliate there is a bulleted list of the players mentioned and their sample slash line. "ohn Parke opened his 2018 campaign with a strong start, allowing just one run on three hits through seven efficient innings, whiffing six and not walking anyone. Fellow lefty Parker Rigler looked good in his full season debut as well, throwing five innings of one-run ball, striking out four against a single walk. " Were these draftees or milb free agents?

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 08:14 PM) Time to get him out the org. This is harsh.

Basabe 3-3 with a triple now. Lambert a good start too. Yurchak, whom I was excited for, is still hitless.

Big TJ House fan here

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 03:49 PM) Hawkins has never shown he is ready for AA either Who cares? They clearly believe promoting one of our players in W-S does them more harm than good, and they don't care if it hurts Hawkins because he's not a prospect anymore. If it wasn't Hawkins, it would be "insert minor league free agent we've never heard of before". Their focus is on giving those hitters in w-s the appropriate challenges. We get it, Hawkins sucks. The org isn't giving him a special preference by putting him in AA.

I have a lot of confidence narvaez will at least draw a walk here. lol why do i talk.

Did not realize game wasn't over.

The thing about young teams is they feed off eachotehr good and bad. Except when they get cold, they all get cold together and for longer than when they get hot. But when they get hot it's something you can dream on.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 08:20 AM) He and Hawkins both went 0-4 with 4 Ks. It is so long past time to cut bait. It is not like we do not have replacements ready to promote, especially the outfield. Hawkins isn't holding anyone back. And they shouldn't promote someone a week into the season. When they think a guy is ready in W-S they won't keep them there because Hawkins. They already had to promote Fisher before he really showed he was ready. That's the case with all of them, none really showed they were ready for AA, many showed they were ready for High-A.

Seen enough "grounds out softly to pitcher" updates to last a season in gameday

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 02:00 PM) Yep...I don't think this past offseason was kind at all to the Sox rebuilding plans Could have been worse, main players could have been locked up to long term deals.

Oh my god. Jason Benetti is ASKING HIS COHOST QUESTIONS! Who taught him this? How could they LET THIS HAPPEN!? Everyone knows he just needs to just flatter my understanding of the game and scream "These stupid baby idiots can't even catch, I could catch that in little league, also fire Renteria and Moncada is a bust"

Guys I'm starting to think spring training wasn't a very good indicator for season success.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 11:59 AM) Looking at the rebuild as of noon April 10, 2018, I will go on record as saying the thing I am least scared of in the future is the White Sox bullpen. That's safe to say.

QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 12:54 PM) Left field and right field look like they might be 200 feet down the lines. I doubt MLB would allow a ballpark to have the old Polo Grounds dimensions anymore. Other than that, I agree with your post. It is really frustrating he included the image with the actual distances that you can't actually make out. Hard to imagine it could be much more than 250

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 11:58 AM) It is a re-do of the old Armor Park proposal. It is definitely something that has been talked about before. True but I don't know that I've ever seen the architect drawings before. It's the outfield dimensions that I reallly love. The trend toward outfields have been to conform to similar dimensions or features. Houston obviously felt that pressure (theirs did feel pretty theme-parky and arbitrary, but these were pretty cool.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 11:46 AM) I think part of the problem with what you're saying (and it will happen although not to the degree I think you're selling it) is that New Comiskey/TheCell/GRF has been through so many iterations already. The name changes and renovations have made it almost as "faceless" a park as possible. It has no history associated with a long time sponspor, it has no real outstanding features (original or renovated) outside the scoreboard and outside of 2005 the Sox haven't made many memories in the place. I guess Wise's catch as well (and are the OF walls still like that?). It's just a really generic ball park in many ways. Most of the old ballparks looked pretty similar. There is a heavy nostalgia to them now. It won’t be generic when it ages into relevance by the new builds changing.

Having just finished it hot damn that would have been awesome.

I think sox should just push through with this stadium for as long as possible. Since the upper deck changes there is nothing bad per se in the organization or experience within the ballpark. It just lacks "charm", both artificial and realized. Best way to achieve it? Push on through. faux-new age structures like metro/astro dome didn't age well. This will age fine, and eventually will standout from the new age parks. At 50 years old, it will seem quaint and I wouldn't be surprised if there is eventually a backlash against the more ostentatious new builds. Feel your way through it, add to it gradually, build its history. Tell everyone else to screw off.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 10:12 AM) I want 4 aces. Best chance of that (pre 2018 draft where they might pick up McClanahan) is Rodon, Kopech, Giolito, Hansen, with Lopez having a decent shot as well. Maybe that's being greedy, but the Sox had to sell off three in their prime stars for this, I want the best payoff possible. Yes it would be nice, but I'll take a well rounded club with a nice bullpen. The recent teams with "4 aces" had meh results in playoffs, and even when it works a la mets, pitching can fall apart quickly.

I don't know that we'll know what qualifies a modern pitcher for the HOF anymore aside from probably Kershaw.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:56 AM) Yeah, the point being, you aren't going to win with a rotation of Gavin Floyds, no matter how much some want to spin it. If Giolito is Floyd, that will be a disappointment. I'd amend this to saying if Giolito is Floyd, and that's the best turnout of all of our pitchign prospects, that's really bad. But context is everything. If Giolito is Floyd and Kopech is an Ace and someone becomes a really good #2, then it's fine. If we needed giolito to be the ace and he failed, no good.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread

I doubt Markannen will play. Payne will play like 40 minutes. It moved weeks ago from just giving a bad roster to hoiberg to also putting the worst possible team on floor in fourth. now they do it for like the whole game. They'll lose.
