  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) Counting OPM makes a big difference to me when it is a direct relation to who my favorite team will but on the field, to think otherwise would be putting blinders on. Its kinda like saying that it doesn't matter that I have a huge house or not, when you aren't able to afford the property taxes on it, and are going to lose it anyways. If you don't have one eye on the budget, you aren't getting the full picture of what a teams realistic expectations are on almost any personel matter. Bingo. Using the Thome situation as an example: Tex, you're saying you didn't care about the money picked up in the deal at all. So that means in a way you really don't care about the Konerko situation, the money picked up by the Phillies can and could have had a direct effect on the PK situation. We worry about the financials in deals because we only do care about this team winning, and the better deals you can make from a money stand point will allow you to add more players with extra funds.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) Let me give you a real answer, we got Thome. It was days until I noticed what he was going to cost the Sox. I wasn't interested in the least. I was interested in where he would hit, where he would field, and the fact he is a solid citizen in the club house. I don't care if he's making $5 mil or $10 mil. If the Astros made more money this season than the Red Sox would it or should it make a difference to any of the fans? When they start publishing the box scores in the financial section, I'll start caring. Until then, I'm not that interested, but now I can see why some fans are so fascinated by it all. Thank you for the education. Counting other people's money just doesn't do anything for me. You're not understanding the point at all.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) This dude is an ass. I guess he figures you can't be upset to see Rowand go, but still like the trade? Wow, wow, wow. :headshake
  4. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) do the Sox face the Phils anytime during the interleague? Nope.
  5. Also if you're not in the Chicago market, whitesox.com is streaming the csn coverage.
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) I just watched the media of Anderson's two homeruns off King Felix this morning and it made me feel awfully good. Check it out. Click on Anderson's page on Whitesox.com and give it a watch. I see no reason why he couldn't hit 12-15+ homeruns in a full season's production. He'll hit 15 plus homers imo, I am worried a little bit about how well he'll hit average wise though. I think he'll be in the .250 range.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) Bears Super Bowl? Get over yourselves. We'll see how the Bears match up two weeks from now against someone not in the NFC (not named Seattle or New York, of course). I still say fluke. Badmouth me all you want, but their luck will run out. The Bears have done much better than I thought, I'll admit that, but I still think a lot of it is a function of playing the NFC. Ahh, Kyle Orton, 17th in passer rating in a league with 16 teams. Well what the hell do you want them to do? Demand a conference change?
  8. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) The teams in the SEC are not as good as they have been in the past. Trust me, I live this s*** down here. I'm definitely not going to argue this point with you cause you're in sec country. That being said whether they're down this year or not what conferences are better then them? Big 10, maybe? Even being down compared to prior years they're still probably a top 2 conference in the nation.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Reese Witherspoon is cute as usually, and doesn't bog things down. IMO she looks much cuter as a brunette.

    Fantastic movie.
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) How does everybody know what the budget should be? I mean really know. I just can't fathom careing if a player makes an extra million. I understand it makes for a more interesting off season playing GM, but as a fan, I don't really care if JR makes 1 million or 10 million next season. Most of us have an idea of what the budget will be around, those two extra million dollars might not seem like a ton but you give a few players an extra two million then that money starts to add up pretty quick. Plus if your paying players more then they're worth you just up the market and that could come back to bite you in the ass a few years down the road.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Yet, I read posters claiming they don't want this player at X dollars, not anything about his on field play. If we write, I'd take player X at $5 mil but not $7 then aren't we concerned about the team profits? No, what we're concerned about is keeping this team under the self proposed budget so we can add other parts and pieces. I know what you're trying to get at here but this question is crazy and I know your just trying to make a point out of it.
  13. QUOTE(Wedge @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Alternately, ND and Oregon both have 9 wins against Division I opponents. OSU and Auburn played in overrated conferences. You can say these things about each team. If you're really mad about the absense of Oregon or Auburn (the two likely to be left out), then be mad at the BCS which protects unworthy conference champs like West Virginia and FSU if it can beat VTech. ND is a top 8 team in the BCS and would probably beat both Oregon and Auburn; thus, I think they deserve a spot over those two teams. I think on a neutral field that they beat OSU. That said, I agree with Fotop. It's good to be hated again. I do hate the BCS, trust me. That's why most of this stuff pisses me off.
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) Yeah, that's an option. I don't have any handle on what he would be due at arbitration, but the Sox would likely sign him to a 1-year contract, then trade him for a borderline prospect, than lose him for nothing by being non-tendered. Agreed. Just throwing that out there cause that could be an option but I don't expect it.
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Marte or Vizcaino. And Neither is likely to be cut. They'll be part of a trade. I'd say there is a little bit of a chance that Viz gets non-tendered but I do doubt that.
  16. QUOTE(Wedge @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Look at Oregon's win list and you'll bold them all. I think you can do the same for Ohio State and Auburn with your standards. ND and Oregon's schedules are pretty damn close, the difference is Oregon has 1 loss. OSU had a tougher schedule and Auburn had a much tougher schedule, this really isn't a tough decision in my mind but ND gets the bid cause of who they are.
  17. Bmac is the 5th starter.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) Warren beat Waukegan last night by 6. They are 3-0 to start the season. I almost got dunked on my freshman year when we played waukegan. That was fun.
  19. QUOTE(danman31 @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) ND is a pretty damn good team. With that said, it wouldn't surprise me to see them 5-3 in the Big Ten. OSU beats em easy. MSU already did. Penn St. is way overrated, ND would clean them out if that's the BCS matchup. I could see one of Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Northwestern beating ND. The thing is when you are playing good teams on a weekly basis you can't have a bad game and get away with it. 5-3 in the Big Ten is pretty good, I don't know how you can say ND is 7-4 when you don't know what games you are cutting out of the schedule left for non-conference. I think ND is a good team as much as I hate to admit it. I should add that I'm not saying they would go 5-3 in Big Ten play, but it wouldn't surprise me. I would expect 6-2 to be honest, which is still worthy of a top 15 ranking in the country if not higher. Penn State>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ND.
  20. Lets go Bears D and Kyle Orton.
  21. QUOTE(Palehose13 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) What is laughable is that only one person (I believe) realizes that the $22 million coming from Philadelphia is to pay Jim Thome. I think most people know that. Most people in here were probably just talking what to do with the money we still have left due to only taking on about a 4 mill increase to get Thome.

QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) you guys really hate carl don't you? None of us hate Carl but to put him in centerfield is a horrible idea.
  23. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) December 7th Important Dates December 7, 2005 Last date for former club of player who declared free agency under Article XX B to offer salary arbitration. If Club does not offer, then it loses all rights to negotiate with and sign the free agent until May 1 of the next season. That doesn't mean he has to be signed by then that just means we have to offer him arbitration by then if not signed already.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 01:34 AM) You gotta remember with Reed, he had wrist problems all 2005, therefore the problems with the bat, but his defense at Safeco was better than advertised. And Jason, I know you don't like Gio , but you gotta admit, those K numbers he put up this season were very impressive for a 19 year old (during the season, he's 20 now). You gotta remember B-Mac didn't start really dominating until he was 21, and that was in 2004 when he went from low A, to high A and AA. As talented as Gio is, he's only pitched in High A ball and he's a bit injury prone. There is a good shot Gio won't even make it to the majors.
  25. Think the Phillies are laughing at the world series ring on Kenny's finger?
