QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) There's no way he will be gone due to arbitration. At the very least, Garland will be back on a one year deal like you stated. Unfortunately, that's what I see happening. I think Garland thinks he can repeat his 2005 season and get a crazy contract next offseason. I was talking about gone after 06. Just because someone turns down the first offer a team makes doesn't mean they're bolting.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) I know C. Lee, Jon G., Jose Contreras, J. Dye, El-duque, Iguchi, and Pierzynski will be on that list from the Sox. Unless KW locks them up before hand. Dye and Tad both have options...they'll both be back. Since when did we get Carlos back?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) And if the Sox give Garland a 1 year deal, he will still be a free agent after next season so what's the difference? I'm just saying silvy and carmen are just throwing things out there, they don't know what's going on anymore then we do. I think it's just kind of crazy to assume to say Garland is gone because he turned down an initial offer.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) It makes sense though. Why would Garland want to sign a cheap 3 year extension now when he could just wait a year and break the bank for a huge deal like B.J. Ryan and Billy Wagner? It's still all speculation, we have no clue what's going on in the negotiation process, kind of like when everyone freaked out over Tad last year and not offering right away what he was looking for..it's negotiating. They say he'll go to arbitration which I'm still almost positive won't happen, at worse they'll give him a 1 year deal.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Carmy and Silvy just said negoitations are off. He will go to arbitration and expect a large chunck of change for the '06 season. He will test the market after the season. This is good news and bad news for us. The good news is Jon G. will pitch his heart out for another season. The bad news is- this might be his final season in a Sox uniform. Other starters: Buerhle signed through '07, Garcia signed through '07, This is El-duque and Contreras' last year of there contracts also. Yikes! Lets enjoy the ride at least one more time with this pitching staff. They're just speculating. They know as much as we do right now.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Ozzie must have realized that neither Konerko or Dye are #3 hitters. A healthy Thome is our team's best hitter and highest OPS guy. It makes the most sense, regardless of the lefty-righty order. Like I said in that other thread: Thome: 963 career AB's batting third Konerko: 69 career AB's batting third Dye: 25 career AB's batting third When is the last time ozzie looked at numbers?
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) They didn't say the #s however he is expected to get 7.5 mill this season in avoiding arbatration. I'm guessing he wants to test the free agent market after the '06 season. If I find out the #s i'll let you know. Hopefully KW isn't done negotiating. Jon G is a HUGE piece to our puzzle. He will not get 7.5 in arbitration, Bruce pulled that number out of his ass.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines Told you guys. That strict righty-lefty order is overrated. I know in my case and I'm sure in others we were trying to think like ozzie and not what we ourselves would do. Ozzie usually loves playing the righty/lefty game, in this case it looks like he might not.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Any ideas as to the numbers? They didnt say. It was just an initial offer I'm sure, I wouldnt say already that this means he's gone next year.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) They will go after Luis Castillo and Juan Peierre and then try and sign Lugo or Florida's Alex Gonzalez. It will take a good six months for their fans to learn it is a different Gonzalez than the one that cost them the playoffs, if they even remember the guys name. Why they don't go after Preston Wilson is beyond me he and Cedano make more sense then Furcal. I really think Hendry works like fantasy baseball, get the biggest names to keep your team in the spotlight. And then who leadsoff?

I think you missed something last night.

This just entered my mind and maybe why the sox are willing to try juan in the 2 hole. Juan his hole time here has been much better when he has a job to do such as getting that runner in from 3rd with less then 2 outs. Maybe the Sox think by moving him into the 2 hole that he'll have more jobs to do and it will help him concentrate a bit more. I still dont like the idea of Juan in the 2 slot but maybe that is where the sox are coming from....

QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) isnt thats what Pablo is for? it comes down to are we goin to have 4 or 5 bench players? if it is 4 bench players i dont see how we can have mueller and ozuna on the same bench. that would mean the 4th bench player would have to play all 3 OF spots and 1B Right? Ozuna then could be used basically to pinch run and come in as a defensive sub, Pablo can also play the outfield so if Timo is let go then that enhances what Pablo can do. I love Pablo but he's obviously no where near the hitter Mueller is and I think they would like a starting type player just in case Joe's back is really bad or acts up.
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) That is true. SOmeone will need to take Blums spot on the bench. Bring him aboard! BUT, not at the expense of Crede leaving. The rally crede means to much to Soxtalk. They just want some insurance for Joe's back. Bill's also a guy who could come right in and hit 2nd when Tad needs a break, it would be a nice fit if we could convince Mueller to accept that role.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) That is what they are going for, a bench role. Spare Crede, Iguchi, Konerko/Thome.... He could get 400 AB's. BTW, I LOVE Carmen and Silvy. My favorite radio show by far.
-
QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) he can play 2b, 3b, correct. what others can he play? That's really it but that would be perfect, give Crede and Tad a rest every now and then and could also dh when Pauly or Thome need a dayoff while slipping Jim to first base when Paul needs a dayoff.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) I was referring to the last couple of weeks. I didnt get to hear Bruce just now. Did he really get angry? Were Carmen and Silvy giving him a hard time again? They always play "Here they come Here they come....manny trillo" when he is on. He got a little mad cause they were talking about the Thome thing on cubs.com. Bruce was getting angry saying the cubs don't run the site, mlb does.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) There was no mention of Nomar when he was on. Nomar and Bill kind of sound alike, no?
-
If the Sox could convince Bill Mueller to become the super sub type with still getting a good amount ab's for a fair price I would be thrilled. A guy with a good bat off the bench that could play a lot of positions. Hopefully something like that would be able to happen.
-
Bruce is getting angry...
-
I was really excited to have Thome.

Happy bday greasy. I know you got what you wanted last night.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 05:54 AM) We'll be re-stocking in the draft. Of course we did so well from that draft last year getting Gio, Lumsden, Liotta, Whisler (albeit he hasn't been good) building up that depth in the first place. You're a year off there.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) Just so you know... Wilkerson has gotten most of his ABs(about 1000 of them) the last two years, that's right, from the lead off spot. I know that, but I believe he's more of a middle of the order hitter and I don't think he's the top of the order hitter the sox are looking for but that's obviously jmo. The Nats really havent had anyone else to hit in that spot unless the great Christian Guzman counts.
