  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) I dont agree with Congress doing it, but I wish there were some force out there somewhere that could rectify the atrocity that is the BCS. I think we all do. I hate the bcs beyond belief.
  2. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) If there was a color halfway between green and black, I'd use it. I mean, this is a guy that plays Twins baseball, and we all know how hard that spanked us from 2001 - 2004. This is still a team that has Johan Santana, a bunch of no-names who turn into superstars against us, and, of course, their dreaded minor league system, which will invariably produce a new generation of Sox killers as it does every damn season. Hopefully we luck out again and they get injured or come off to a bad start, but never, ever count out the Twins. The Indians might be the media darlings, but the Twins are still the team that gives me nightmares. They're a machine, right? One of your famous posts from the beginning of last year.
  3. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) I congratulate the Twins on their 2006 Division crown. He's baaaack.
  4. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) This review has convinced me to go out and buy the DVD. It's a great dvd.
  5. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) Huh? I think something got lost in that translation. I think Iguchi is fine in the number two spot. I don't advocate any linup changes from last year, Juan can hit 9, I like that. I'm not sending any memo to the sox to go look for a number 2 hitter; I'm sending a memo to the board that the Sox shouldn't trade for Juan Pierre. We don't need a number 2 hitter, which is why we don't need to trade for Pierre, along with a million other reasons, most of which deal with how bad a hitter Juan is, and that BA can't be any worse while coming much cheaper. The Sox want a new number 2 hitter, nobody said anything about you wanting one. That's why Pierre has been brought up so much cause the Sox want to move Iguchi down to make use of his power.
  6. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) Okay, while I don't like the BCS, Congress is f***ing pathetic for getting into some of these things. Words right out of mouth.
  7. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) IS HE GOING TO HIT LEADOFF FOR THE SOX. Sorry about shouting, but christ almighty, listen to yourselves, we need a #2 hitter--he will not hit leadoff if traded to the Sox. He will hit number 2, which would be a mistake. I'm not sure why everyone is trumpeting his OPB, it was terrible last year--.326...wow, quite the leadoff man. Career you say: .355. I concede that .355 is a decent enough number, but it sure as heck isn't noteworthy, not for a "leadoff" hitter. He has speed, but rarely gets on to use it. I'm kinda tired of looking up all these stats on my dialup, so if anyone wants to pick up the anti-pierre cause that would be cool. His 2006 salary is going to be above 5 million, FYI, which of course is about 4.75 million more than any of our in house options. Roughly, 1/17 of the whitesox total payrole would be going to trade for Juan, plus whatever talent we have to give up, and I have to think the marlins ain't taking El Duque or Marte, they want prospects. His job as a two hitter would still be to get on for Thome and Pauly behind him. He can move Scott over cause he's a great bunter, he'd be a great guy to hit and run with cause he doesnt swing and miss a lot, and he gets on base at a very good clip to where as Thome and Paul would always have someone to drive in with Scott and Pierre in front of them. Juan would be a great fit as a number 2 hitter here. Sorry, but his slugging just doesnt meant that much.
  8. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Players on the Sox that had a better OPS than Juan Pierre in 2005: The entire starting lineup--yes, even such "heavyweights" as Scottie Pods, Juan Uribe, Arow, and AJ. Enough really can't be said about how bad Juan was last year at the plate. Juan Pierre, Career Splits: .305 .355 .375 .730 Arow, Career Splits: .283 .337 .451 .788 Both players are the same age. Now, Arow is generally noted as a good but not great CF with an average arm. Juan is a average fielder with a below average arm, kinda like scottie pods, actually, alot like scottie pods. Why would we trade anything for Pierre? Please tell me, we already have a Juan Pierre clone in Scottie Pods, we need a number 2 hitter with a little bit of Pop for crying out loud. It's hard for me to see Juan Pierre setting the table with a career OPS ops of .730, especially considering that he has played half his career in Coors Field. Throw in the fact that NL pitching is weaker than AL pitching, and Juan is almost certainly not going to have anything close to a productive year in CF. He is a freakin leadoff hitter. Why the crunk do you care about his slugging percentage?
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) Did I miss something or is Ryan Sweeney pitching in that sig??? He pitched in high school.
  10. Hehe. Definitely sour grapes.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) Well if the Yanks make that deal, its a very good one from there perspective. Proctor is a loser and I will never understand why there hyped up prospects get so much love. In perspective, I don't think Proctor is any better than Arnie Munoz. I can't speak much of the other prospect, but I'm sure he's not better than Sean Tracey as a prospect. If someone told me Sean Tracey and Arnie Munoz would have gotten Juan Pierre, I probably would have been pretty willing to pull the trigger. All that said, I really am not at a loss and considering I was thinking one of our young Of's was gonna be gone for Pierre, I'm kind of happy that we'll be focusing on another CF. I just hope its a good one we find. Here's a question, does anyone think the Sox will be crazy enough to try to put Erstad back in CF. When he's there is a stud defensively and while he's overpaid, I don't think you'd have to give up much in terms of talent. I know his numbers aren't the greatest, but he's a good all around player that would definately fit in the 2 hole. Kenny is the type of gm to think outside the box but I highly doubt you see Erstad here. It does sound like the Angels were planning on moving him back to cf if they signed paul, do you think he can handle cf right now or do you think he'll be back on the dl every two weeks if he's moved back there?
  12. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) I've learned to tune Ozzie out on some things. That's probably the best way at going about ozzie's comments. Half the time ozzie doesnt even know what he's saying.
  13. Smart
  14. Meh, not that big of a deal. He's just saying that Iguchi is for sure getting moved down whether it's Juan or an outside option.
  15. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) The Marlins offered Juan Pierre to the Yankees for pitchers Sean Henn and Scott Proctor, according to the New York Post. Supposedly, the Yankees are thinking about it. We'd be shocked if the Marlins couldn't get more than this from another team, if not the Cubs than maybe the Rangers or Mariners. Neither Henn nor Proctor qualifies as a building block. Hmm.... Go to school.
  16. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) I doubt Kenny made any real effort to try to call Frank and work something out. He was probably counting down the days till he could get rid of Frank. I know this has been said in this thread but it just pisses me off. I would be interested to see Reinsdorf's reaction to the Frank situation. Give me a break.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...showtopic=53976 I really feel bad for the Fish fans right now. Yes, I know, they have no fans that support them, but this group of a couple thousand do support them, and live and die by the Fish just like we do for the Sox. No doubt, this s*** has to be hard as hell on the diehards.
  18. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) This was a better move than trading for Alfonso Soriano though Agree completely there.
  19. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) My god. The Marlins are going down the drain. Do they trade Willis now or do they build around him? Willis and Cabrera are the only safe one's.
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) Solid move for them IMO. Stewart and Castillo 1-2 is going to an annyoing punch at the top of there lineup. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) That sucks. He's a good pickup. Agreed and agreed. The good thing is they still have no punch in the heart of their order.
  21. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) With the workload the top four pitched last year, my thoughts are that they think some guys will hit the DL. Also Garland could be traded if he is not locked up long term. I think the 6 starters will all be needed next year. Especially with the stupid world thing. Garland isn't going anywhere.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) How about in Dallas with the traveling call on Duncan at the end lol He got f***in mugged. That was absolutely ridiculous.
  23. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) I don't know except what I read... But from what I read they are both equal on defense, but Young has better speed and more power... plus Anderson is more fragile... It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which one projects to be the better player... Well good thing we can base defensive ability on things we've read. I'm sure people are going to take your opinion seriously when you say you dont follow the minor leagues at all but when you're trying to make a case for a player you like or don't like well then of course you know everything about these minor leaguers.
  24. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) Anderson/Young>>>>Pierre>Owens for CF next year... This coming from a person who says he doesnt follow the minors at all. Hmm....
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) And they won't be next year? The yankees werent even the ones who set the market for mediocre pitchers, it was the Mets with Benson. With the way teams are overpaying for pitching as of late there is no doubt that Jon makes atleast 10 if he hits free agency.
