  1. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) Did they get Mabry? A buddy of mine told me that, but it's not on their website. Yes they did.
  2. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) I dont know but with their money troubles and aging roster I expect them to be less and less of a force in the coming years. That team is definitely a mess right now, they have a lot of work to do to get themselves back into the title picture imo.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Looks like the Cardinals are close to a 5 year, $50 million deal with A.J. Burnett. More bad news for Cubs fans after they lost out on Furcal. If Burnett can stay healthy, I'm very interested to find out what Dave Duncan could do with him.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) They basically replaced Piazza with a slightly younger version of Piazza without the power. They could have just signed Bengie Molina or Ramon Hernandez and not given up the prospects. That's the part I don't understand. Molina is just an awesome defensive catcher(including handling a staff) and he would not have cost any prospects. Molina is also a solid hitting catcher, great in the clutch so he would have been a great pick up. Aw well, it's the Mets.
  5. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) This might be true, but its not like they got nothing in return. They got a pretty good prospect, and considering the fact that Lo Duca is 34 and his talent is declining, thats pretty damn good. He throws out 25% of the base runners who try stealing on him (hey, its an increase for Mets fans), and his defense isn't that great according to ESPN's scouting report (although they do think that Jeter is one of the best in the league, so they aren't always right). If he could hit, then ok, this would be a good deal for the Mets. But considering the fact that Lo Duca is old, bad at defense, and not special offensively, the Marlins got away with murder in this trade. He's brilliant at handling a pitching staff, which is the most important thing a catcher does imo. Like you said though they did get a pretty solid prospect and it's a fine deal, I'm just saying Marlins fans are tired of only getting pitching prospects in these deals, they want some positional spects.
  6. QUOTE(mac9001 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) I thought Travis Bowyer was supposed to have some real nasty stuff. The Marlins are looking at him as this years closer, no? He does and yes they are. Like I said in my last post, Marlins fans are getting kind of angry that they're only getting pitching prospects. Also, for Luis Castillo you should be able to get more then a relief prospect and another decent one.
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Lo Duca isn't even that great a player. Career .756 OPS, including only two seasons with an OPS over .732. The Marlins got the better of this deal, so no, I dont find this BS at all. Well most Marlin fans certainly don't think so. They're tired of getting pitching prospects. Lo Duca was also pretty liked and believe it or not stats and ops aren't everything especially when it comes to catchers.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) Damn good site, I appreciated the email I recieved from them telling me to have a Happy Thanksgiving. Outside of here and other sox sites, it's my most visited baseball board.
  9. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) I doubt the 95 existing Marlins fans really care anyways. WRONG. http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index.php?showforum=1
  10. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) 1.6 wasn't the right call. The clock stops when the ball is completely through the net, there was no more than 1 second on the clock when it finally made its way through. You're just wrong here palehose. You know I try to be as objective as I can be when it comes to Duke on here but 1.6 was the right call.
  11. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) They have now dumped catcher Paul Lo Duca to the Mets for prospects....I guess if u want anyone from Florida, just give up crap...Hey have Kenny try for Dontrelle for like idk...Borchard? Ya....no.
  12. I love rotoworld: According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs could make a serious run at A.J. Burnett after losing out on Rafael Furcal. Well, he's probably a better hitter than Neifi Perez, but can he really play shortstop? The Cardinals and Blue Jays appear to be the top suitors for Burnett at the moment, though the Mets, Nationals, Rangers and Mariners could also be in the running.
  13. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) You care to make a wager? On PSU beating FSU? Sig bet is really the only thing we can do, so I'm up for that.
  14. QUOTE(zenryan @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) an 8-4 team that very well could beat PSU Not a chance.
  15. Byrd is a real solid pitcher, nice pickup for Cleveland. He'll be a nice replacement for Elarton, they still need a find a replacement for Millwood though.
  16. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) besides..remember the last time we traded for a pitcher with the A's..That worked out well huh? Yup, that actually worked out just fine.
  17. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) Freddy is a big, strong guy, so the injury concern doesn't worry me, but I hope he doesn't have more arm fatigue than usual. Basically, the tournament is his spring training starts, so it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Except he's pitching in real games. Big difference between just throwing in spring training to actually pitching in these games in which are going to be meaningful for the participants.
  18. QUOTE(spataro51 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) i am concerned because he was showing signs of fatigue at the end of last year To the tune of a 2.14 era in the playoffs. The injury factor just really worries me, especially with a pitcher. Extra time pitching meaningless(meaningless to me) games doesn't sit with me well. Obviously you can't tell Freddy he cant pitch in this though, this is his decision and hopefully everything works out fine.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Link to it being offical? If it is true, the biggest question in my mind would be if Ozzie is managing the club or not. If Oz is the manager of Venezuela, I dont have a problem with it, because from what Ozzie had been quoted on, he seems concerned to have Garcia go, and if Ozzie had control of Garcia, im sure he would not let him get to many innings in, or get fatigued in the least. Very good point. Still, this does scare the hell out of me. I just don't like our pitchings having unnecessary work. Hopefully I'm just worrying about nothing and everything goes fine.
  20. Mets Are Said to Be in Talks for Marlins Catcher The Mets have extended offers to the top two free-agent catchers, but it is becoming increasingly likely that they will fill their catching void by trading for Paul Lo Duca. They are involved in "very serious" discussions with the Florida Marlins about acquiring Lo Duca, according to a baseball official who was granted anonymity because he did not want to jeopardize the negotiations. The official said he did not know whom the Marlins would receive, but at this point they may not be picky. In cutting payroll, they are searching for young, cheap talent, along the lines of the two midlevel prospects they acquired from Minnesota on Friday in exchange for second baseman Luis Castillo.
