  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) Maybe I just undervalued Marte last season, but was he really a VITAL piece of our team last season? Really? He was a vital part of trying to blow that lead against Cleveland. The guy's mechanics are all f***ed up right now, he's giving away his slider, he's a headcase, and he can't throw strikes. He's done, he was awesome in 02 and 03, started to decline and 04 and was flat out awful last year. All I know is I'm happy he wont be trotted out there against a tough lefty in a tight game ever again.
  2. Still a solid, solid pitcher. That's probably to much money but compared to what some guys have got that's not to bad. Nice move by the Kitties.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) Pablo is an absolute butcher at 3B. At the beginning he was a butcher there, towards the end of the year he played pretty damn solid at 3rd.
  4. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) WTF? They already have Javy Lopez who is one of the best catchers in baseball. He'll dh. Got to love the O's though, they can't pitch so of course they add more hitting.
  5. Love it. I think Damaso is done and Mack is a verstatile, solid bat off the bench.
  6. Very interesting deal, Marte is a stud but obviously the Bosox just left themselves a glaring hole at ss. Another deal must be on the way.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 01:54 AM) That's why I repeated the question. We still don'thave an answer. Ya, I'm actually a huge fan of Cat but moving Pods to center is a bad, bad, bad idea.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) Look at the second post in the thread. Hmm, I missed that somehow.
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 01:38 AM) Great idea. Now ... Where would he play? I was waiting for someone to say that.
  10. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) He's not worth anything Good point.
  11. SNB is a liar. Anyone with a lawsuit sue him.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) Does this make Fuentes available at all? Or is he their closer? I honestly don't know anything about the Rockies, really. Fuentes has indeed become their closer and they're working on a long term deal for him.
  13. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) El Duque? Well kind of. It's not like he's crippling us and atleast he has a role somewhere if we need to keep him. It was also a two year deal not a 45 year deal like some of these guys got.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) Alrighty, let's switch up some names here. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5148464 I'm wondering what Toronto is going to do with all it's 3B/1B types -- Hinske, Koskie, Overbay... Am I missing someone? Well if they didn't trade Hillenbrand then he's still there as well.
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) Isn't Castilla in San Diego? Yesum, but Bowden was the one who gave him a big deal last offseason.
  16. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Will the Brewers use Fielder at first and then use Shea at third? I agree, nice move by the Jays I would think so. Thirded that it's a nice move for the Jays.
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) I think Bowden totally lucked out last year. He hasn't made any good moves since taking over and he's continually making moves that make me shake my head. Soriano is definately a bat (and they could use a bat) but they dealt a pretty good bat themselves and one that actually fit into there lineup (so really I see this as a wash for the Nats) unless they plan on moving Soriano. This is just a puzzling move by Bowden. Kind of like him offering up that big ass contract for Christian Guzman. and Vinny Castilla.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) If the Rangers keep Wilkerson and don't get pitching, I agree with you, they'd have been better suited straight dealing Soriano for a pitcher. However, if they are thinking that they could use the extra money on a FA pitcher and than get similar value via trade for Wilkerson for another pitcher, they may be able to get 2 quality pitchers in essence for Soriano. If they do that, bingo. However if they cut payroll and get a mediocre pitcher and keep Wilkerson than I'd call it a failure on there part. The Rangers need to find 1 good pitcher and preferablye 1 good and one solid pitcher. Good points. Ok, from the Nats side of things, add more salary and are they going to throw him out in the outfield where he doesnt want to play? EDIT: From Gammons(Take it for what it's worth) it sounds like this is purely a salary dump and they might keep Wilk. Once again nothing against Brad but using their biggest chip for another bat just makes no sense to me. They do get some payroll flexibility though, so that makes it a little bit more credible but still....
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) I think he's going to put up better numbers than his 2004 season, which was pretty damn good. I'd guess something like .270/.390/.525 in that ballpark... I still think Wilk will be a 25-30 homer guy, consistantly.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) The Rangers freed up some cash (actually my guess is that it was a considerable amount of cash) so I kind of see the reasoning for them (plus Wilkerson can play any OF position and DH and is a good hitter). He's not Soriano good, but he is a solid hitter. The problem is they seem stacked in the OF and they need pitching. They must figure now they have some financial flexibility (to sign a starter...maybe Washburn) and can than use a cheaper guy like Wilkerson to land them another starter? In terms of Washington this puzzles me cause I don't have a clue where Soriano would play. Soriano refuses to play OF and Vidro is a staple at 2nd (unless they are going to move him). The Nats could use the extra bat, maybe they plan on moving him to 3rd or something? You're right with the money factor but still, move Alf for pitching..I mean cmon now. The Rangers need pitching bad and they just wasted their major chip on Wilkerson and this is nothing against Wilk cause I actually think he's a fine hitter.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) This doesn't really make much sense to me. This is obviously a straight payroll dump by the Rangers. Wilkerson is a darn good hitter, but Soriano is better and it doesn't sound like they are getting anything else. The question is, where is Soriano going to play since the Nats have Vidro. The only way this deal makes sense to me is if the Nats are going to use Soriano for pitching. Ditto with the Rangers and Wilk but ya they didn't need to be flopped for that to happen. This trade definitely confuses the hell out of me.
  22. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Especially since the Winter Meetings don't officially begin until Thursday. The winter meetings officially end thursday.
  23. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Is it me, or is that one of the worst trades in a long time, worst of the offseason at the very least. It definitely confuses me the most.
