  1. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) there are this many guys that are into this show? wow. ^^^
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) I would normally flat out agree, but I want my leadoff hitter not only being able to get on base, but to either be able to steal bases productively or have a little bit of gap power...Pods really had neither, though his injury really killed his ability to steal bases late in the season. To put it into perspective...Podsednik had 6 XBHs in 12 games in the playoffs. He had 29 XBHs in the regular season, in 129 games. If the Sox could get the Podsednik they had in the postseason for a large stretch of games during the regular season, they'd probably be damn near unbeatable in that stretch - similar to how they were in the postseason. A guy who has power, the ability to get on base, and the ability to steal bases productively is one of the most valuable hitters a team can get. Ahh..yes, the Wite theories of the leadoff man.
  3. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) the Braves would've been in last place without Jones. Especially with all the injury problems. The Cardinals won because of their pitching staff. Not because of Albert Pujols. Furcal and Marcus Giles were more valuable to the Braves than Andruw was imo. Pujols is much more valuable to the Cards then Jones is to the Braves but that's obviously jmo.
  4. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) I'm as big a fan of the two as any, but A-Row and Pods had a collective OPS in the low .700's. Thats not really productive. They did well in their spots in the lineup, which is more important imo, but they weren't that productive as offensive players. OPS means squat in a leadoff hitter.
  5. If I'm a free agent I'm looking for a team that can win, a city I would like to live in year round and a city where my family would be comfortable. Money obviously plays a role but if I'm a big time free agent I'm of the impression that 10 mill compared to 14 mill would be enough to feed my family and I can honestly say that wouldn't effect my decision that much. Now if it's say a difference between the league minimum and a mill or something like that, then it's a different story.
  6. About damn time. Glad to hear this.
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Steiner has my vote as well. A friend told me that Triple H was no more than a cruiserweight when he first came to the WWE, and bulked up considerably and suspiciously. Triple H was very small when he came into the wwf, he seemed to be one of those guys that got big overnight.
  8. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) EDITED to add that if I had to choose anyone in a Pro Wrestling Steroids Dead Pool, my choice would be Scott Steiner. Scott Steiner just became gross looking, I have no idea why anyone would do that to themselves. Anyways, is he still wrestling?

QUOTE(indyman @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) The CW is Iguchi would be a much better hitter if he wasn't batting second. By batting second he is distracted, and has to give him self up all the time. What do the facts say? Batting Average with man on 1st: .326 (slugging .511) Batting Average with none on/none out: .205 It doesn't appear batting second hurts Iguchi. He actually maybe getting better pitches to hit. When nobody is out there was a good chance he was either bunting or hitting behind pods to get him to 3rd when he was on 2nd with no outs. Also, ya when scott is on first base it would help him because pitchers only half focus on him. The point everyone makes and I agree is that as good of a number 2 hitter as Tad was and he as great, if you move him down in the order he can be a run producer. EDIT: My bad, I think I misread the stat a little bit. Like Kalapse said though it's kind of ridiculous to take one stat and analyze it.
  10. Good. Congrats Albert.
  11. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 06:37 AM) Plenty of teams are willing to give Eyre 3-years, $9 million. With the big teams involved, he might get $4-5 million per year. I doubt we get him and I agree Myers would be a solid alternative, but I would rather have Damaso than Myers. I'd much rather have Myers at this point. You know exactly what you're getting from him and he'd be such a perfect fit here. I really want Myers here in 06.

  13. QUOTE(Beastly @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) No big loss, he wasn't THAT good anyway. I really, really liked Dolgin. He had big shoes to fill and did damn good imo.
  14. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) i know i'm going to get dragged to see that movie by the mrs.
  15. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) whatever turmoil is between us is from the Bill Mueller thread I created where I argued that range factor and zone rating didn't do Mueller justice defensively and you and the rest of my bashers were pretty cynical. just saying. Huh? I've been a fan of Mueller, I think I might have actually asked you in that thread how good he was defensively, I'm pretty sure I've never argued that Mueller was a bad 3rd baseman.
  16. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) I hope to hell Andruw gets the NL award. No you dont.
  17. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) If Ortiz had played the field odds are he would have finished right around the same in range factor and zone rating as Rodriguez did compared to opposing American League regular first baseman. Ortiz got shafted, period, but I don't really care. Arod is a pretty darn good 3rd baseman and range factor and zone rating won't convince me otherwise.
  18. I was there last year, had a terrific time. I'll definitely be going again this year.
  19. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) A lead off guy who doesn't walk all that much and a career OPS of .730. I get a kick out of how they are trying to steal the Sox formula for success. THEY STILL NEED A BULLPEN!!! Pierre can hit, he had a down year last year but he's been a pretty damn good leadoff man for most of his career.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) The Yankees overpaying another guy who's approaching the backside of his career? Yay. Boo, cause I was hoping somehow someway he'd reach free agency.
  21. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) Hideki Matsui - OF - Yankees The Yankees and outfielder Hideki Matsui are nearing an agreement on a four-year deal worth about $50 million, The Associated Press reports. That'd be quite a raise for a player who was little better than expected while fulfilling the $21 million contract he received three years ago, and considering that he's now 31, he's a worse bet for the future than he was back then. Of course, since he brings in revenue just by being on the team, he doesn't need to be a $12 million-per-year player to be worth the money. Nov. 14 - 7:47 pm et Source: The Associated Press Boo.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) I got nothing but respect for Arod. I'm not the type of person that will hate a player for signing a contract that owners gave them. This I completey agree with and that's why I wanted everyone to know that I didn't hate Maggs for the contract he signed last offseason but for the other crap he pulled.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) Bobby Abreu is a right fielder. I think he meant that row and Vernon play the same position.
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) TNA could possibly be on the way to being that legit contender. They concentrate more on the actual matches and feuds and they're not trying to be a soap opera/sitcom. They have some decent up-and-comers like AJ Styles, Monty Brown and Team Canada. They've been picking up the right people when they leave/get released from WWE, such as Rhino, Christian, Gail Kim and Team 3D ( The Dudley Boyz ). With a good push from Spike TV and a little luck ( and a LOT fewer title reigns for Triple J aka Jeff Jarrett ), TNA could be what wCw was always too stupid, hokey and dollar-foolish to be. A friend of mine told me I had to see this match between AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Christopher Daniels, I watched it and my god it was amazing. Haven't watched WWF in years and havent watched wrestling at all probably since WCW started to suck but that match was unreal.
  25. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) A little birdy told me that season ticket holders are up to just under 17K... Dayum, that's impressive. I'll ask the Bones question again: Anyone have an idea when the ozzie plan comes out?
