  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) He had his two week DL trip to recover (for an injury that I'm not quite sure was ever too serious). All along, the Sox organization talked about resting his legs for the stretch run. Well, the stretch run has been going on, and Pods has been basically mediocre all around. Groin injuries are nagging as all hell and for someone who runs that's about as bad of an injury as you can get.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) I bet Boston will find a guy not necessarily with speed, but a guy that can get on base. Screw it, lets get Durazo and make him our leadoff hitter. At least we could have a leadoff hitter that could knock in more than 30 runs in a full season. Cmon now, Pods had the great obp's of Juan and Crede hitting ahead of him all year long.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Unless you have a great number 3 hitter, like Vlad, the leadoff hitter is rather overrated. We'll see what happens to the bosox offense if Damon doesn't resign.
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) I don't know how many times I've said it this year, but..... If he's on the roster, he's in danger of being used. -- No surprise there Let's bring up that Blum thread. There was a ton of people defending him with the sub .200 BA, useless defense, and 4 extra base hits. Me And I was pissed to see him in there today so you win, me=dumbass
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) You don't keep Pods just because he's cheap. He's not good enough to play CF defensively, yet he doesn't hit for enough power in a corner position in an offense that desperately need upgrades. I can tell you right now, there'd be about a 70-30 ratio for Sox fans in favor of trading Pods before Rowand. This team hits homeruns though with Pods in left so it's not like we're lacking power, that argument that your lf must hit for power just doesnt work for me, who cares where the power is being provided from.
  6. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) Is it just me or does anyone else think Anderson's rookie campaign will be worse than Rowand '05? I'd only deal Rowand if someone was willing to drastically overpay. I personally think that Brian could put up atleast .270 and 15 in his first full season but that's jmo.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) Can someone honestly tell me why we want to get rid of Pods again? The ENTIRE team is slumping. This is a team effort. Do not blame Pods. Do not blame Aaron. Do not blame Dye. This is a team...not a group of individuals. If one falls, they all fall. If one triumphs, they all triumph. I certainly didn't hear you guys saying we should get rid of Pods when he stol 40 bases in the 1st half and was terrorizing pitchers on the basepaths. GMAFB. We let losses get into our heads too much. Pods is an asset to this team. Wow... Everyone has their own opinions, personally for me I definitely wouldn't get rid of Pods, when he's healthy he's a huge asset to this team. As far as Aaron, I'd be willing to bet that Anderson can atleast produce as much as Aaron has offensively this year, add the fact that Brian's a pretty good centerfielder(thought not as good as arow imo) and that aaron can bring some good talent in return, then that type of move makes a whole lot of sense to me.
  8. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) When you have an offense that is poor at hitting, smallball isn't the greatest idea because those kinds of teams can't afford to just give up outs. Well that's what I kind of mean. It can work if you have the right collection of players, right now we built this smallball team on one player, if you're going to do it you need more then 1 guy who can play that game.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) Ozzie's better suited for the NL than the AL. Smallball is a much better approach in a pitcher's park with no DH. It can definitely work in the al but when it revolves around 1 player and the player injures his groin then it definitely can't work anymore.
  10. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) One consistent hitter like Helton this year and we have 99 or 100 wins and this division. I think it's fair to say that because there have been tons of games where we rallied late or fell short or just plain fell short with runners on. I mean, yeah it'd be nice to get more consistent hitters, but they aren't a dime a dozen. How much more can we add to this offense? Do you want to get rid of Pierzynski, or Dye, or Uribe for anyone better? I personally don't want to lose AJ's attitude, Uribe's defense, or Dye's... well just him. What about Crede, what do we do with Crede? Do we attempt to find a better hitter with worse defense? 3rd base is definately an area we can improve and not worry about losing too much. Podsednik I still would really like to keep. He was just freakin' amazing in the 1st half and if he didn't get injured he'd still be amazing. You don't steal 50 bases in one half by sheer luck. Make no mistake about it..Pods ain't going anywhere, I'll guarantee you that. We need to upgrade one half of the left side of our infield, both are fantastic defensively but just to inconsistant with the bat. Also, we need to upgrade the dh spot and I think offensively we'd be good to go. I'm also really starting to like the idea of Anderson over Rowand in center next year as Aaron could definitely land us something nice in a package with maybe Damaso included.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) Maybe Steve Stone will take the Sox in a different direction? And I have no basis for this prediction, but I think Carlos Pena will be the Sox 1b next season. Just a gut feeling (have any gut feelings been right this month?). Wow, you just pulled that name out of your ass.
  12. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) Can't we go to arbitration with AJ and Jonny? I think I remember hearing about this but I'm not sure, I know Jonny can but AJ I'm not sure. If so, they shouldn't be getting raises that will break the bank. As for Konerko + Helton... well that's pretty farfetched but that's something I could die for. Them platooning at 1B and DH is ideal as all hell but then I'd have to concede the money thing. That's a lot of money. I'd take Helton over Kong any day though. Aj and Jon are both arbitration eligible.
  13. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) So if we win tommorrow and the yanks and red sox lose, does that mean we clinch a playoff birth? If we win and they both lose, we're in.
  14. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) You people and your crazy stats. I dunno if I'm the only one, but I cannot AT ALL attach a stat like "W" to a hitter. Look at the simple stats and I say Helton. He's hardly ever injured so I don't think his age will be a big problem. Yes, his contract is big but I think it's one we can afford to bring in. How much more do we really need if we land Helton? Maybe 1 bullpen arm, but that's it. This I agree with, not a big fan of win shares. Nothing against anyone who uses them, just not my favorite way of judging a player.
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) How about Marte, Young, Tracey + Broadway. Remember...Broadway can't be traded till June.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) unless they decide to trade Ryan Howard instead......... I'll take him.
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I would try to trade for Texieria(trade Young, Rogowski, and a Lumsden; give or take a little). No offense nite but it'd take a s***load more then that to trade for tex, to be honest, he ain't going anywhere for a long long time.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) He's still the main marketable guy in Colorado. They need somebody to help them put butts in seats, and they don't have an option at 1B to replace him. And would I deal one of those 4 pitching guys for him? No. It's easier to find a good bat than to find good pitching. A guy like Casey Rogowski who's hit over .300 down at B-Ham could be an option as well. Don't you think your boy in zona could be had for aaron and marte? I'd be willing to bet that Anderson can atleast put up the same type of numbers Aaron has this season in center.
  19. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) You said it yourself, the contract. I find it hard to believe they wouldn't make or attempt to make a deal especially since the Great Prospect Dealer Kenny Williams will probably make them an amazing offer. Offer up some of our pitching. Garland, Garcia, McCarthy, Contreras? Lets not forget here that this team does have 94 wins, this has been rough as of late but this is still a very good team and the reason is because of the pitching. I was all for trading Contreras but with the way he's carried this staff the past 2 months I want to hang onto this guy and the other 3 were never on my trade list, those guys need to stay. We can upgrade our offense without downgrading the pitching, actually our pitching should be better next season.
  20. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Any better suggestions? Furcal? Giles? Any FA's out there look good? No. We need a .300 hitter. That's all there is to it. f*** power. We have plenty of it. Helton's hitting f***in' .323, that's beautiful and what we need. A consistent hitter. Power will come, but we need consistency. I actually love Helton, yahtzee. But that drastic drop in power at coors just scares me, don't forget that coors will add points to your average too. If his contract wasn't enormous I'd be all for it but he just worries me, that is all.
  21. QUOTE(Commander Fisk @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Guys we definately keep; Konerko Thomas Garland Guys to get rid of: Marte Everett Pods El Douche Bag Ozzie Harold "smelling salts" Baines Walker Cora and just about the entire bench except Anderson. Also, get a real left fielder somewhere. Let me guess: Pods isn't a real left fielder cause he doesn't hit for power?
  22. QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Todd f***ing Helton. Make this trade, we need a superstar. He's the man. The Rockies should be willing to listen to deals. Helton's power numbers just died this year for whatever reason and that contract scares the hell out of me with the way his power took a hit this year.
  23. QUOTE(C_LEE45 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) Mine is PodsCF Furcal SS Giles Dh Konerko 1b Dye RF AJ C Iguchi 2nd Anderson LF Crede 3rd bench uribe ,rowand.ozuna, widger pitching Buerhle Garcia count Garland BMACK I'd rather have pauly in center then pods.
  24. Gid rid of el duque somehow. Sign Mueller or Furcal, trade Rowand and Marte for Chad Tracey or someone that could bat 3rd and let Anderson play center. Get a left handed long reliever. Most importantly we got to resign pauly and this coming from someone who had seen enough of PK in the first half. Obviously these are just my realistic ways to upgrade the team as of right now.
  25. Right f***in guy on the hill. We NEED this one.
