  1. QUOTE(Wiredawg1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) I'm not trying to piss anybody off. I'm just pissed that the tribe may not make the dance, and in my opinion stand a hell of a lot better chance of advancing than the Sox. And I understand that it's a marathon and not a sprint. However the Sox remind me of the Ironman guy on the Gatorade commercial suffering from dehydration in the final 50 meters of the race. And what really pisses me off is the amount of time that Pronk missed because of Buerhle. We get that month back with Pronk and the Sox are looking up at us. Say what you want, but that's a fact. And if we had Frank Thomas all year?
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) He was posted twice, and worked twice, in the last week or so... Once was seconds before Crede's HR. Ahh, I didn't know since I wasn't around.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Agreed. Here were my hopes going into the season. 1) Pods would suck, but the team would win in spite of him. 2) Everett would get off to a hot start out of the gate and carry the team. 3) Frank would come back and rock. 4) Everett & Frank's awesomeness combined with Pods' suckitude would force the Sox to bench him before the ASB. 5) I would live happily ever after. I was most happy with Pods performace around the first week of May. He was on pace to walk about 100 times, and had an OBP near .400, despite hitting well below what he is now. He's only walked a little over 20 times since then. I didn't care about his SB total then. I don't care about it now. I just want him to get on base. Not make outs. Any way possible. -- If that includes stealing a base, good. Don't get caught. If that means batting .450, good, though i'd like to see the ball out of the infield once in a while. If it means leaning into a pitch than by all means do it. Ok, screw all this pods talk. Where the f*** is rally mojo, cheat. He needs to be used sometime, he can't be a 1 act wonder.
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) .354 OBP my ass. Gotta change his slugging percentage then, no?
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) Well who knoes if Rowand would still have an OBP of .329. I tend to think he would have a better K/BB ratio, and a little higher OBP as he'd just be trying to get on base more instead of driving runs in. Even he said and I know irish71 remembers this, that he changed his swing a little after the San Diego series. I remember that too and that's cause he said he wanted to hit more homeruns... Anyways, we've ran this thread up to 18 pages and have got no where, everyone still feels the same way they did before I think it's just time to stop and agree to disagree.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) Well that is great for the year. However how is Carl hitting in September, in crunch time. I'm not trying to compare Carl to Carlos here cause it isn't a comparison, dbaho just brought up the risp stat so I brought up Carl's numbers. The Carlos Lee I remember wasn't exactly the most clutch player either, he loved to swing first pitch and pop up in a big situation.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) That's because Cleveland's pitching has been much better. You get good pitching with the way Cleveland have been hitting, they are going to win a lot of games. EDIT: And our execution sucks. Like Pods' bad BA/RISP. Just saying if we still had Carlos Lee with his good BA/RISP we'd be scoring a lot more runners from 2nd and 3rd. Carl is hitting .294 with risp.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) The point still is, if we had Carlos Lee hitting in the #3 spot, how many more runs do you think we would have scored? His .282 looks godly, compared to the way Rowand, A.J and Everett are hitting the ball in the #3 spot right now. And Pods .352 obp looks godly to what we would have had to put in the leadoff spot which probably would have been Aaron and his .329 obp. Carlos's obp is pretty ugly as well for someone in his spot.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) SBs are overrated. Honestly, this is where people's opinions of pods are formed...how they feel about stolen bases.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) And Jermaine Dye's had a better season than Maggs this year, and has pretty much hit for the same power for about $8M less. Thomas and Everett, well Everett after the 1st half has pretty much stunk. Better season then Maggs had in 04. Not from 01-03, once those two got injured last year the team basically died.
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) Carlos Lee is hitting .282 with RISP. That'd be pretty damn valuable right now. And don't forget the 01-04 offense put up more runs than the one we had this season. It's all been the pitching. They had Frank and Maggs.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) Why do you think a team like Cleveland's offense has become so good then? And I know you're going to say Travis Hafner, but don't tell me you wouldn't want Grady Sizemore and Coco Crisp over Scott Podsednik and Aaron Rowand then? And it's not like our offense is fantastic anyways. In a heartbeat and that's why the Indians offense has been jump started to what they've been, their middle of the order sure doesn't hurt though.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Right now would you still want Carlos Lee back over Scott Podsednik? No. Let me add that I was against the trade when it happened as well. Carlos is having an overrated season if you ask me. I was never a huge fan of his to begin with but if you swap those two it's the 01-04 offense minus Maggs and Frank, plus a subpar rowand and uribe. We'd be worse imo but that's jmo and I know a ton of people disagree.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Because other offenses may not hav Konerko/Crede/Uribe/Iguchi in the infield that could hit for almost 100HR's in a season. Look at the NL for example. Teams like Arizona and Florida rely on their corner OF's for production in the middle of the lineup. It's easier to find a better power hitting corner OF than to find a power hitting IF for example. But that's my point dbaho. We have power everywhere as it is, it's ok to have a slap hitting left fielder.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) What does Pods do that's awfully special then if it doesn't show up on the stats? Ask Iguchi.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) where power is VITAL Why is that again?
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) He had his two week DL trip to recover (for an injury that I'm not quite sure was ever too serious). All along, the Sox organization talked about resting his legs for the stretch run. Well, the stretch run has been going on, and Pods has been basically mediocre all around. Groin injuries are nagging as all hell and for someone who runs that's about as bad of an injury as you can get.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) I bet Boston will find a guy not necessarily with speed, but a guy that can get on base. Screw it, lets get Durazo and make him our leadoff hitter. At least we could have a leadoff hitter that could knock in more than 30 runs in a full season. Cmon now, Pods had the great obp's of Juan and Crede hitting ahead of him all year long.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Unless you have a great number 3 hitter, like Vlad, the leadoff hitter is rather overrated. We'll see what happens to the bosox offense if Damon doesn't resign.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) I don't know how many times I've said it this year, but..... If he's on the roster, he's in danger of being used. -- No surprise there Let's bring up that Blum thread. There was a ton of people defending him with the sub .200 BA, useless defense, and 4 extra base hits. Me And I was pissed to see him in there today so you win, me=dumbass
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) You don't keep Pods just because he's cheap. He's not good enough to play CF defensively, yet he doesn't hit for enough power in a corner position in an offense that desperately need upgrades. I can tell you right now, there'd be about a 70-30 ratio for Sox fans in favor of trading Pods before Rowand. This team hits homeruns though with Pods in left so it's not like we're lacking power, that argument that your lf must hit for power just doesnt work for me, who cares where the power is being provided from.
  22. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) Is it just me or does anyone else think Anderson's rookie campaign will be worse than Rowand '05? I'd only deal Rowand if someone was willing to drastically overpay. I personally think that Brian could put up atleast .270 and 15 in his first full season but that's jmo.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) Can someone honestly tell me why we want to get rid of Pods again? The ENTIRE team is slumping. This is a team effort. Do not blame Pods. Do not blame Aaron. Do not blame Dye. This is a team...not a group of individuals. If one falls, they all fall. If one triumphs, they all triumph. I certainly didn't hear you guys saying we should get rid of Pods when he stol 40 bases in the 1st half and was terrorizing pitchers on the basepaths. GMAFB. We let losses get into our heads too much. Pods is an asset to this team. Wow... Everyone has their own opinions, personally for me I definitely wouldn't get rid of Pods, when he's healthy he's a huge asset to this team. As far as Aaron, I'd be willing to bet that Anderson can atleast produce as much as Aaron has offensively this year, add the fact that Brian's a pretty good centerfielder(thought not as good as arow imo) and that aaron can bring some good talent in return, then that type of move makes a whole lot of sense to me.
  24. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) When you have an offense that is poor at hitting, smallball isn't the greatest idea because those kinds of teams can't afford to just give up outs. Well that's what I kind of mean. It can work if you have the right collection of players, right now we built this smallball team on one player, if you're going to do it you need more then 1 guy who can play that game.
