Congrats to them. After 04 I will never count them out, I thought they had no chance to win that division last year but they did. 14 in a row, absolutely f***in amazing.

If the Sox win tommorow they clinch AL Central
Rowand44 replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) most news channels and radio in Chicago are reporting that if the Sox win tomorrow they win the division... the math is way too hard for me, so I am going to believe the media (not the best decision always, but it makes me happy for now) It's true, you can believe them for once. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) Cantu is likely the most underrated player in baseball. I completely agree with this. I knew he was having a great year but I was stunned when I looked at his numbers a few weeks back.

If the Sox win tommorow they clinch AL Central

QUOTE(rowandrules83 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) it doesnt matter if the red sox win or not. its simple logic. if the sox win tomorrow they clinch not only a playoff berth but a tie for the division, correct? since the best cleveland could do then is tie us, and since in this hypothetical situation the tribe has tied us and the sox have clinched a berth, that means the indians clinch a berth too. and because both teams would already be in, the sox would be awarded the division with a win tomorrow, no matter what happens the rest of the year with boston and cleveland And you're right, good f***in call, you're smart, I am not. EDIT: All these tie breaker scenarios have made me do all sorts of math and because of this I have lost all common sense. Kudos man. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) If we play the Angels in the first round, Pods won't be running much with B. Molina behind the plate. fathom has put us in the playoffs.

Alright here: A White Sox win or Yankees loss and we're in. A White Sox win and an Indians or Red Sox loss and we win the division. I'm positive guys, look it up if you want. -

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) The Red Sox are not in our division. Thanks guys, after all this time following the sox I forget who was in our division. Listen, if us and the Indians are tied but both of these teams are in the playoffs, there is NO 1 game playoff then the division winner is determined by head to head which our sox have clinched. Meaning if the we win tomorrow and the Bosox lose they can't finish better then us and if the Indians were to win out, we tie for the division but the bosox are left out because of this, we win the division. -

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) The Red Sox are NOT in our division. They have nothing to do with us winning our division. It has nothing to do with math. Ribbie you're wrong here, the Red Sox do matter, I'm 100 percent sure on this. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) Count, Done deal. Count-MARK-Freddy-Jon. That's my rotation, right there.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) The Red Sox have nothing to do with our division. Here it is: The Magic Number is 2 If the Sox win tomorrow, but Cleveland wins: The Sox clinch at least a tie for the Division. With the magic number at 1 If the Season ends in identical records, the Sox will play Cleveland in a one-game playoff in Cleveland. The winner wins the division. If the Sox win and Cleveland loses: The White Sox are central division champs! Ribbie the red sox do matter: Here's why, the redsox losing and us winning gives us the division, that would put us 4 up on them, meaning we cant have a worse record for them, meaning if they win out and we lose out, us and cleveland tie but since both teams of us are in the playoffs we win the division, due to us beating them head to head. -

Ok, here we go. If we win and the Indians or Red Sox lose then we clinch the division. -
Definitely not the biggest thing, steve. However, it would definitely be huge if we can get him running again.
-
Yes, period.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) I know this has been asked approximately 100,000 times, but it never seems to be a straight answer: do the Sox now have a playoff spot? NY and Boston lost, didn't they? At least, they were losing last I checked. Yankees won, so not yet. A win tomorrow and we're in.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) How did he respond? He said something that didnt make sense to me. Something like "When I'm in attendance they lose."

Lol, I thought this was just hilarious. On ath, Tony Reali says to Mariotti "Mariotti, how come when the sox lose 1 game you always right a column about them choking but when they win you dont write about them"

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) Why is it so hard to understand that Gload hurt his shoulder in spring training and still has not regained his throwing arm? So what if he tore it up in AAA? The guy was fantastic last year because of his ability to be a utility player and play OF and 1B. Now you want someone on the bench to be just a backup 1B? Name me a player on the bench this year who couldnt play more than one position on the field. Ozzies bench is full of utility players. Even Willie Harris has played more than one position while he was in the big leagues earlier in the season. Why do we need so many utility players?? Up until the trade deadline we didnt have a backup first baseman, isn't that enough reason to have gload on the roster? Ozuna can play everywhere in the infield and the outfield, widger is the back up catcher, timo and carl can play the outfield, why the hell did we need ross to play the outfield when we didn't have a backup first baseman?
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) What has he done this year. We all know in the world of baseball, one years performance does not always translate to the next year. He's crushed the ball in aaa, he hasn't had a chance to do anything in the majors. Ross has hit everywhere he has been including the majors, it makes absolutely no f'n sense to me why he hasn't got a chance this season. I just don't get it.

Congrats Joe and Lisa.

QUOTE(C_LEE45 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) will it be next tuesday, does anyone have any ideal when the sox will be playing? If we get in, game 1 is on Tuesday. Like Tonyho said if we play the bosox or yanks it'll be primetime, if we play the angels it'll most likely be 3 central time.
-
Ugh, a rainout would be terrible.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) We need to build without tearing down. Sadly, it always comes down to getting rid of the better players to shore up another area. It isn't building, all it does is scrape the high spots and fills in holes. It's the lollipop of mediocrity, one lick and you suck forever. That's the thing though, you can trade Aaron and Damaso for something of value like a good number 3 hitter, put anderson in center, add a Mueller, add a lefty long reliever and there you add to the offense without losing much.

QUOTE(Wiredawg1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) I can't believe you guys can't see the difference and the irony. The man didn't have some arbitrary injury. He was beaned by the so-called best pitcher on your staff. Who just so happens to play for the team that we are now 2 games behind. It should have never happened. And nobody can tell me that it was just an accident. Burhle is not known for his wildness. I know baseball teams have to deal with injuries year in and year out, but that one was without a doubt a season changer for the tribe. One last thing. I am grateful to be even aguing these things with you guys, because of the emotion, it means there are good things at stake here. It was a f'n changeup you dolt.
