  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) And he's a prick for wanting to go somewhere else? grow.the.f***.up.newbie Boo, don't make this thread about Maggs. Go miscalculate magic numbers tex.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Best possible Yankee / Bo Sox records after sweeping their next series would be 94 wins going into the weekend. Best 1-2 finish 95 and 96 wins. 96 wins assures staying ahead of at least one of them. 2 to clinch. AL E winner 96-66 AL runner up 95-67 Any wins added to the winner subtracts from the runner up. And the runner up is who we need to stay ahead of. Still looks like two to clinch to me. SHow me how the Yankees AND the Red Sox could end up with 96 or more wins?? Tex, I said this in the other thread you posted that scenario in as well. Your math is a bit off cause the bosox and yankees each have 7 games left not 6.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) Here goes a try at the current numbers (Sunday Evening) Yank/Bo Sox 91-65 with 6 games remaining White Sox 94 wins If both the BoSox and Yankees win all three games to start this week, they would be sitting at 94 wins going into the final weekend. Possible outcomes 3-0 Wildcard winner would need 95 wins (Sox need 1) 2-1 One team finishes with 96 the other 95 (Sox need 2) As Freddy Prinz would say "Loooking Goood!" Tex you're math is off a bit because the yankees and the redsox each have 7 games left. Just add one win to what you said, 3 wins and we clinch the wildcard.
  4. QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) Do you think hte Sox would put him on the Playoff Roster? I mean that why is was signed for right? He'll be on the playoff roster but no where near the rotation. If we make it of course.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) 3 is the amount of wins, but 3 isn't the magic number for the playoffs right now. That number won't go down if just one of the teams lose. Correct, both those teams have to lose for that magic number to go down.
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) Bench him for Dino Is dino a switch hitter?
  7. I'd do exactly what ozzie is doing. Put him down in the order and hope he gets out of it.
  8. QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) I hope we can finish this thing of in Detroit right in front of that prick :puke Magglio. It's doable lets hope it happens, it'd be f'n awesome to go into cleveland and able to set up the playoff rotation.
  9. QUOTE(TLAK @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) Its raining hard at Archer and Austin, about 15 mins from the park. Memo to Mark: no tarp sliding today. Let him do it, he was pitching well back in those days.
  10. QUOTE(TLAK @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) I don't understand, its the 'everyday' line up. The order is just a little juggled. Uh, not even close.
  11. Got to finish these guys off. Liriano is sick but we need Mark to get back on track and bad. Hopefully Buehrle can pitch like he did in the first half and not what he's been doing lately. GO SOX!!!!!!!
  12. I hate the cubs, however I could care less what they do either way when the sox are still in contention, the only time I care about the cubs is when the sox season is done. The cubs haven't crossed my mind for a long time until this thread.
  13. I'm late but this will be my avatar as well, I'm a follower not a leader.
  14. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) If this team finished with 95 or 96 wins, after holding a 15 game lead on Aug 1st,and fails to win the division it's more of an indicator of the quality of the team that surpasses them in the standings than a White Sox choke. The 10spot on cnnsi had top 10 collapses and every one of them talked about horrendous (.500 since the break isn't horrendous) losing streaks, just handing the division to the other team. If any other second place team outside of CLE were in the ALCent, we'd have this thing wrapped up easily. Great post. The Sox haven't played well for a while but they're also not playing .350 ball like people said they had to do to be caught. Everyone of us was saying "if the sox play .500 ball they're in," well they've been playing .500 ball problem is that Cleveland doesn't lose. If the sox finish with 95-96 wins it's kind of hard to consider it a collapse.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) That comment pretty much describes my opinion of if Mark should start game one of the playoffs...he obviously doesn't want the ball, so by all means give it to the count. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) I took the quote a different way. I am sure he wants the ball in game one, but for the ace of the staff to put his ego aside to put the best pitcher(hotest in the 2nd half) on the mound in game one is pretty amazing. Both interesting views, that quote can definitely be taken either way. I know for me though I'm giving Jose the ball game 1 if we get in.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) Burnett walks to Detroit on a 4 year $48M deal at the end of the off-season. Still do that deal? Here's the thing, there were some of us who wanted Burnett here to be the 4th starter for the playoffs, right now he doesn't even crack the playoff rotation, in other words that would have been a bad deal.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 07:35 AM) Meh, he'd probably be better than El Duque, but he ain't too good away from RFK. I think we'd probably get the same Esteban as last year. Jose has just been awesome, he's definitely living up to what we all thought he could be.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 07:31 AM) We've been saying stuff like that for a couple months now. We've been looking for that unknown thing that will spark this team again. Very true, but there hasn't been a series like this. Also, before this last week our lead was still very comfortable only getting down to 6.5 and that lasted for all of about 3 hours.
  19. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) No i would hate to back in, and will only look at that option if i find something other than a -- in the GB column next to the white sox. Even without the wild card, we're still in great shape. No one can beat Cleveland...every night we look up and they won. Well, they have to beat us. We can put an end to their magic run right here and right now, at home. Definitely. We're not going to get much help the rest of the year so we're going to have to put away Cleveland and it's that simple. Rogers makes a great point in this article of how it's been more about Cleveland winning then us losing. Everyone here has said all year "well if we play .500 the rest of the way we're in," well we've been playing .500 ball, not what we're capable of but not terrible either. This could be the series that wakes this team up and gets them back on track. Who knows this could be the series that gets us on a roll and takes us into the playoffs and deep into the playoffs, lets hope so.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) I laugh thus far. All my friends laughed at me. I waited till the very end of the draft and snagged the Bears defense for my fantasy team. This week, 33 points for my defense after Daunte (sucks ass) put up another horrid week for me (man I was an idiot to draft him). I the Bears and Sox and even those Bulls I snagged them at the end of my draft too and my league is with all Bears fans. Anyways, they got me 34 points this week.
  21. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) I was really back and forth rooting for the Twins and Yankees during that series last year. For some reason I don't hate the Yanks as much as the Red Sox. I would have definitely rooted for Minny in a Twins/BoSox ALCS. I'm with ya, I don't really mind the Yankees but I absolutely hate the Red Sox.
  22. QUOTE(moneyman6544 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) no thats not what im sayin. We had some 18 hits in 3 games and only scored 4 times. Why are people happy with that. Im not. That will come back to bit someone in the ass. that will not work in the postseason(if we make it there). If we get 18 hits in three games. we better scored more that 4 times. The offense got lucky that 2 of our pitchers had awsome days on the mound. That's how we've won all year. All of us would like the offense to score more but we win on the basis of pitching and defense and when we were going good that's how we won, period. People say we can't win that way in the playoffs but we can, we proved against the yankees that it's possible. If we can get Buehrle back on track then it's definitely possible. Contreras is there right now, he's just f***in awesome at this point and Freddy will be there if we get in the post season because that's what Freddy does. Hopefully we get there and then we can argue about this some more.
  23. QUOTE(moneyman6544 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) That's the problem, not tryin to be a downer. We only score 4 runs in 3 games and still win 2. How are u happy with that. We got lucky that we had 2 awsome preformances those days from or pitching. I wouldnt be too exticed about that. So hitting is all skill and pitching is luck?
