  1. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) I think they won't get Burnett, but they will get Jason Schmidt and Omar Vizquel. I also think they will get Aubrey Huff. That would cost a s*** load. I would highly, highly doubt the sox acquire all 3.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) I though the Twins had som much riding on Morneau and they thought he was their star 1B??? Now, he gets some injury problems and the give up.... They're not giving up on him but he might not be the answer this year so they're probably looking to upgrade for this year and maybe try Morneau again next season.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) I think you are completely wrong. No way it would have been a landslide and I believe Cox would have wond it. At the same time they were saying that they were also saying it was luck because they had less runs scored than runs given up. They knew it was just a matter of time until it caught up with them and the BRaves or Marlins took over. I'm with fathom on this one. Frank would have won easily.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:08 AM) I just worry about the stress we're putting our pitchers under to perform at such a high level every game, just to win. Also, I think we're seeing some guys try to hard right now to make up for other hitters not doing their jobs (PK, Everett). I'm just hoping over the next few games we can get the pen some rest, it seems Cliff and Neal get up to throw every game, might not come in everytime but they're always working. I love the backend of our pen and just hope they get some rest. Like I said in the Jenks thread he proved something to me last night and I'd be willing to bet soon he gets thrown into a more crucial game more and more often. At this point I almost want Damaso to be a righty specialist, hopefully he can start throwing strikes to lefties again and Viz is just bad. I'm very excited about El Duque if he can stay healthy he's going to be huge for this team, his stuff the past few games has been so much better then what it was and of course he's throwing strikes again. Overall, I think the pitching will be fine, I'm just hoping Neal and Cliff get some more rest.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) I agree, the latest stretch of games have been lost because of execution, and not talent. It's not like we went out and couldn't compete with the Red Sox, etc. My biggest concern is still our overall offensive lineup. We need another weapon that can make a difference. Until PK gets it going, our offense is usually only good if Pods can make things happen, or Dye drives in runs. We've bantered back and forth a million times about the offense so I'm just going to say this, where we disagree is that you think we need another offensive weapon, I don't necessarily think we need to. I think our offense is the weak link on the team and I'd love another middle of the order bat ala Huff or Overbay. I don't think we need one however to win the whole damn thing just because everyone has weaknesses and I think we have the best playoff rotation in baseball if of course we get there. So basically to sum this up I want another bat but I don't think we NEED one.
  6. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) I hear you, but next month is BRUTAL schedule-wise, and I'm afraid we'll be under .500 and people will say "well, that was just a tough month on the schedule" October is a pretty tough month on the schedule too, and one that we can't afford to be under .500 in... Here's the thing, we played like total s*** in 2 games against Boston, basically gave them away and yet we were still able to split the series. This team doesn't have to play fantastic to beat Boston or the Yankees cause we're better then them(I'm sure someone's going to disagree with me just because they're the yanks and the bosox) once we start catching the baseball again we'll be fine. I'm truely not worried, this is just a real s***ty stretch of baseball at this point.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) Unless it was a 3 team deal. Touche.
  8. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) 12-11 in July... treading water? Isn't this exactly what happened in the second half of 2000? If we lose this Baltimore series we could be just .500 for July...or worse, if we get swept we'd be under .500 And July wasn't even a tough month.... It's July, not September. We're playing like crap right now and we've still managed an above .500 month thus far. Unfortunately every team goes through a tough stretch and right now this is ours.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) and at this point of there careers I'd rather have Huff than Walker. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) Overbay and Huff are much better players than Walker was last season.
  10. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) When I think trade-dealine moves, I think proven veterans or someone with can't-miss success written all over him. See, my ideal deadline move is very similar to what the Cardinals did last season to acquire Larry Walker. Walker was a proven veteran with a big stick and the burning desire to get a WS ring. Overbay-though talented, would likely platoon and may or may not a significant amount of offensive fire-power Huff-although more proven, isn't the type of guy that strikes fear in the hearts of his opponents; plus, neither one of these guys would provide a veteran spark. Overbay is a great obp, high average hitter. He had over 50 doubles last year, just think about that for a second. Some of those doubles would definitely turn into homers. Overbay is 28 so it's not like we're trading for a 22 year old prospect here. Huff is a 30 homer, 100 rbi guy. He's just an awesome hitter and I disagree that he doesn't strike fear into the opposition. Huff is a great hitter and at this point of there careers I'd rather have Huff than Walker.
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) Well if I was Ryan I'd be asking Doug Melvin not to do that. If they were trading Overbay it would be to make room for Fielder, it wouldn't make any sense to trade for Morneau, no?
  12. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) Quick question for ya: will a player coming from either the Brewers or the Devil Rays improve this team so dramatically you would feel more secure in the post-season? When I think, bearing down for post-season play, I don't think promising youngster--something I would consider both Huff and Overbay. How are they promising youngsters??? Huff's been an absolute stud the past few years and right now is getting himself back on track. Overbay was very solid last year and has been better this year, both guys have proven themselves, it's not like we'd be waiting for them to develop.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) 1st you want Willie to start over Gooch and now you want stonehands at 3rd. Tell me exactly how we would use Huff??? Overbay would be our starting Dh and Konerko the starting 1B. Carl will get AB's filling in for Dye, Pods, and the DH. And you can't use Huff the same way you'd use Overbay??? I'd want either guy, I'd absolutely love either guy.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) Well, if I came off as a dick I;m sorry. I don't feel I said anything negative to the guy. He thinks we got fleeced and we clearly did not. This is just my opinion. And Kalapse, please STFU. IF you don't have something nice to say, then don't type. Get the f*** off my back. Did I say anything to you? No. Did I ask for your response or opinion? No. He doesn't think we got fleeced. Maybe he didn't word it perfectly but some of you guys need to learn some reading comprehension.
  15. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) I know this trade would be for the here and now, but would this hurt Kenny's relationship with the Florida GM? He seems to have good working relationships with most so I'm not sure if this would be something he would risk. It's a small risk for big gain IMO but I would still think its a factor. That's something I thought of and that's a very good point. To be honest I wouldn't expect Kenny to pull something like that but like you said the reward is very high.
  16. Jenks proved something to me yesterday. It seemed like he ran out of gas in the 2nd inning and was able to gut it out and get us to the 13th.
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) Would Florida trade Burnett if they knew that he would go to a division rival? Philadelphia with Burnett could keep Florida from winning the division this year. They wouldn't have to know. If this could be done I'd much rather have Wagner than Burnett.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) That's what he should be workin on, oh and developing a cutter. I'm sure he'll get taught a cutter during the offseason and if he can harnass that pitch, look out.
  19. Very nice to see Bmac starting to get himself back on track. I wonder if he's regaining confidence in his change(which is a good pitch)?
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) One thing about Huff is that he hits good pitchers hard. He's had some big hits against J. Santana in the past, and he had a monsterous homer against the stud young pitcher McCarthy on the White Socks. When Huff's right he's just a great hitter, he's been one of my favorite hitters for a few years now. I said earlier in the year it looked like he was injured, his bat seemed to have slow a bit but watching him now whatever was wrong with him before isn't a problem anymore. He's getting around on the fastball better and overall just looks so much better up there. Also while not a speed demon he's no base clogger, he can run a little.
  21. God, I would absolutely love Huff. He's been swinging the bat like his old self lately and the old Aubrey Huff is a 30/100 guy from the left side. That's something we haven't had in so long.
  22. A few of them might be getting a bit tired considering they've worked a ton the passed week. Jenks, thankfully looks strong and will probably be able to contribute in key situations much more often. Viz is just bad, and Cliff today made a bad pitch and got beat by a great hitter.
  23. Just because I never heard the infamous interview(though I've heard of it) what exactly was said that made JR lose it?
  24. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) By all accounts from the Sox.. he sucked. Carmen doing play by play?? I know you didn't say it but he was awesome doing that during spring training.
  25. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) Not only did Gload singlehandedly lose us this game... But I think it's no coincidence that this team started sucking as soon as Gload got up to the majors... Conclusion... get well Frank, trade for Huff... Just do something to get Gload off this team... We need to be the best in baseball again... And as long as losers like Gload and Harris drag us down.. the playoffs are a pipe dream.... You aren't very smart.
