Turn him loose
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) I know, that's something that I've been thinking. There's something about our roster that just annoys me right now. We don't have much flexibility offensively, even though it seems like we should. I still hate Ozuna playing 3b. Here's a potential option: Ken Griffey Jr. in CF. I know, I know...he has the big contract and is injury-plagued. However, I've been very impressed with his hitting this season, and he could give us a whole different dimension at the plate. We definitely need help against tough righty pitchers. Here's the thing I'll say, I'd love to add another bat somewhere and ideally for me it'd be first base but that's not going to happen. I'd love to add a bat at first but I don't think we necessarily need to add a bat. I know you say we only beat up on the royals pen but we've beaten up some good bullpens this year. I don't know man, I just don't see us adding another bat there just isn't much room to start a big bat in this lineup. EDIT: I will say though that the idea of Griffey has started to really cross my mind. Everytime I watch him now I get flashbacks to the old junior. The one thing is obviously his contract and he has lost a step defensively. Once again the problem is there is no where to play him.

Turn him loose
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) I would love the Sox to acquire a number 3 hitter. Instead of going out and giving up huge prospects in order to get someone who pitches once every 5 games, why not go out and get an offensive weapon that could play every game? fathom, honest question who's out there to get?? And where is this player going to play?? Frank isn't going to be benched and nor should he be yet, Pauly isn't going to be benched because he's paul besides that there is no where to put another offensive weapon. Crede, Rowand, AJ, and Juan are all way to valuable to this team defensively to take them out of the lineup, honestly I just don't see where there's room for another hitter.

What Is Wrong With Rowand
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) You are a AR fan per your name, I am not, fact is 1 good year. I've always liked Aaron and I always will because of the way he plays the game. Now, if I didn't think he was worth the money he was making I'd tell you. No one player is greater then the team no matter how much someone likes that player, I had this same discussion about Frank a few weeks back.

What Is Wrong With Rowand
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Rowand has warning track power compared to last year. Last season, Rowand hit quite a few homers to the opposite field. This year, those opposite field drives are being caught on the warning track. I'm not going to argue with you on this, fathom. We've had this discussion before you know where I stand and vice versa, lets just leave it at that.

What Is Wrong With Rowand
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) He got WAY overpaid for 1 good year and he has his money now, he is not really all that good and is on cruise control, I would trade him if someone would take him? Oye ve. His contract wasn't that big, he's worth that kind of money alone because of his defense.

What Is Wrong With Rowand
QUOTE(MattZakrowski @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) I say bench and try to trade Rowand, move Pods to center and play everett in left. It will hurt our defense, but having Everett's bat in the lineup more often can't be a bad thing. Pods in center for a season let alone a game is a terrible idea.

What Is Wrong With Rowand
The problem with Aaron right now is that he can't lay off the down and away breaking balls off right handers, this is something he learned to do much better last year, hence the nice season. Aaron's a very talented player and I think he can get back to the way he hit last season he's just got to be able to take those breaking balls again.

Sox interested in Batista?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) Hence why I've said he's a perfect option for us to trade for. Has great splits as well. I'm 100 percent with you on this one dbaho. I'd absolutely have to have Batista in the pen. You can never have to many arms. Also if I'm not mistaken he signed a 3 or 4 year deal last offseason so he'd be around for atleast next year as well.

Crede and Rowand
Crede should definitely be a gold glover this year, Aaron has been very good defensively this year but I'm not quite sure he's a gold glover yet.

Turn him loose
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) the friday game against the a's this year we had willie harris playing 2nd and in the 2 hole. During that game he had 3 chances to move scott pods over w/ no outs. All those times he failed and the run never came in. We lost the game 4-2. Gooch is needed in the 2 hole. He also has an advantage because he's seeing better pitches when pitchers are worried about pods. Keep him there. My feelings as well. Gooch is to valuable in the 2 hole to be moved down.

7/20 Game thread vs. Detroit
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Clement, Wakefield, Miller and Arroyo will all look much better though when facing the White Sox lineup as opposed to that of the Yankees, Orioles, or Blue Jays. I knew this was going to get ugly if the Sox lost this one, check that..if the sox trailed in this one. I'm done arguing with you guys, I'll just let the Sox do the talking for me this weekend. I'll stop posting in the game threads also, that should make you guys happy.

7/20 Game thread vs. Detroit
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) Its all about a latin name I guess. Well we have a lefty hitting in AAA at about a .380 clip with an over .1.00 OPS. But he cant play OF so he stays down. If his name was Gloadriguez he is up and playing. We have a midget who masquarades as a 1st baseman because he can pinch hit and provides a dancing partner for our manager. We have Willie who should be anywhere but here, but he is here, because Gload isnt liked. If you are latin and a pitcher you can throw 100 pitches and then start that inning. Willie's fooled me, I could have sworn he wasn't latin. :headshake

QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) Ok, well the only good thing I can pull out of these games is that kenny is going to be pissed and he is going to do something....and soon Don't expect kenny to overreact because of one series. If he makes a move it'll be because it makes sense for the team not because they lost 1 series and not just to make a move.

QUOTE(Wolverine31 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) If it makes you feel any better, it should have been a sweep if not for Trammell's brain fart monday (that assuming Farnsworth can hold it in the 9th). Go away asshole.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) 110 pitches for Garcia... oye ve. Plus a rain delay where he had to get started up again, that just wasn't one of ozzie's brightest moves.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Not gonna change any time soon. Our line-up is surrounded by guys who do not take pitches. Crede is almost always 0-2 it seems, uribe, rowand, pierzyski, ozuna. I really want to know why ozuna ever leads off. He takes about three pitches an at-bat... not acceptable. Probably cause he has about a .370 obp when leading off.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) i think it's the way our offense has looked. Lots of pop ups ground outs and K's. That's how most outs take place.
