QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 01:21 PM) Sergio Santos DFA'd again. No one will pick him up, and Toronto will surely pay the buyout. I bet he is one guy the Sox will want back for a look next spring if no other team does anything crazy. Has his stuff diminished or is he just a head case at the moment? If the arm is still there I'm all for giving him a chance on the cheap.

Jurko sucks but I like Waddle.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) Really nice to see the way that K rate has dropped. The bb percentage increase is awesome to see as well. Dude is just an awesome hitter who apparently can adjust very well to the major league game.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:16 AM) Was looking up Abreu's first and second half splits this morning because while it's obvious that he's not hitting for as much power, it still seems likes he's been no less effective. Anyway, I noticed something interesting. 1st half: .292/.342/.630/.972, 6.3 BB%, 23.4 K%, 162 wRC+ 2nd half: .361/.438/.534/.972, 9.8 BB%, 18.3 K%, 169wRC+ Funny that he's gotten to an identical OPS in such drastically different ways. In conclusion: stud. That's pretty crazy actually. Good stuff.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 07:55 AM) The homerism in this thread is ridiculous lmao. There's really not much homerism going on in this thread at all. I think you can be completely objective and say the Sox and you can be completely objective and say the Cubs, it really is a close call. Hell, if you want to believe fangraphs you can say that the Sox have 3 of the top 50 most valuable players in the majors right now, that's a pretty awesome core in place just right there. Like Buehrle>Wood said, I've also defended the Cubs rebuilding plan just as much as anyone around here but when you take everything into you can make a fair argument that the Sox have a better group of core players, just like you can make a fair argument that the Cubs have the better core.

Both have a chance to be really good.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 05:31 PM) I'm old because I don't remember those first town houses. Must not have been built. They weren't. First year was 07.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) I would agree. He has pushed past his innings from last year. That's what you like to see post injury. Building the innings. Do you think it's possible for his shoulder to loosen up more and regain some velocity, or is what we got this year what we're going to get from now on?

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) My old townhouse is right there in the first picture. Good times, miss that place. Ha same actually. Do you remember what Apt number you were? I think we were Q8. Pretty crazy too cause we were there the first year Aspen was built and the back yard there was just a yard.

There's definitely a chance that Baez can be a complete bust but he's still ridiculously young too.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Eh, pre-draft there was a lot of people gushing over him, but I would need Quinarvy to put something together to see if it was just one superfan. Haha fair enough.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Holy cow he got a lot of that ball. Quick hands. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) Semien 2/3 with 2 2B 1BB 1K. Average up to .271! Gotta find some room for his bat in the lineup. He's really, really good.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) Pretty clear from my post: "I just find the hype train on the board" How many people have really hyped him on the board though? A bunch of us have said he'll at least be exciting to watch cause he can jump high, I don't think anyone has went overboard saying he's a stud or anything. There have been more people here declaring him a bust than anything.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) so the WWE financed "Leprechaun: Origins" got a 0.9 rating from IGN. quite an amusing review, im curious where this turd in a punchbowl ends up on rotten tomatoes It'll still somehow make them money though.

2014 Fantasy Football Thread

Ppr I take it? Looks good if that's the case. But there's no reason to have Joe Flacco, I'm sure there's better options available if you really want a backup qb on your roster. -
I'm sure Danish is getting tired but he's also probably regressing a bit. The guy was so unbelievable for a while that he was probably going to have a few mediocre starts at some point.

QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) make that 0 for 0 with 3BB now at 50 walks and 55 strikeouts on the year at AAA as a 23 year old in 78 games; just remember though his celing is just a utility player.... Awesome. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) 2-2 with HR for Anderson Awesome.

I'm not worried about his play at all. As long as the explosiveness is there everything else will come back with time.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) Anybody who reclines their seat on a non-overseas or non-redeye flight just plain sucks. /thread QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) Agreed. Every time I fly to AZ to visit my parents, it never fails that the person in from of me reclines. I'm 6'5 so I casually and intentionally bump my knees and nudge it for a few seconds. It never fails and they incline. Thirded.

2014-2015 NCAA football thread
Rowand44 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) I'm sure the story is "Josh Shaw got drunk, was dared to jump from the balcony, did it, and sprained both of his ankles." It's like the time I got drunk and ate s*** and had a huge scab on the left side of my face. I went to one of my dad's work functions (which is the parent company of the company I work for), and people asked me about it. My story was that I was frisbee golfing, was way in front of my friends, and when I turned around to look to see where they were, one of them jumped on my back and tripped me and skidded my face across the ground. One guy I told that to (who is now the president of the company I work for) said "Looks like you got drunk and fell down." Nailed it. I'm surprised Krush isn't in here yet to tell about the drunken Rowand falling on his face story. I'm pretty sure it's his favorite story ever. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) Tweet of the day: Dan Wetzel @DanWetzel · 2h And USC may be trying to one-up Notre Dame's fake dead girlfriend with a fake drowning nephew? Now that's a rivalry Ha, that's amazing. -
To me this all depends on if the Sox think Rodon is going to be ready to go or not. I'm not saying spend money on Shields specifically but if Rodon is what we all think he's going to be then I have a hard time believing that a rotation with Sale, Quintana, Shields(someone his caliber) and Rodon in it, isn't at the very least a wild card contender.
