  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) The only reason I want to see someone other than Matt close is because the Sox aren't going to be able to use him in innings 5-8 as needed now. That versility was huge. Games aren't always decided in the 9th. Absolutely.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) Didn't I read somewhere that Selby and the Morris twins are leaving? Yes, that's why they're talking about Kentucky, not Kansas. As for next years teams, UNC is going to be absolutely loaded if Barnes comes back, easily the front runner imo. And even after the top 8, I think there should be some decent teams. Love Vandy's talent, despite their 1st round exits in the NCAA's the last couple of years. UCLA is going to be loaded with talent as well. I'm sure the level of play still wont be anything outstanding but you'll have some pretty damn good teams next year imo.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 08:20 AM) Lilli in Right? Ugh. Eh, he's our best back up defensive of. Keep Q's bat in the lineup while improving the d in the outfield after yesterdays terrible performance, I'm ok with it.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 08:17 AM) lack of a plus secondary pitch. lets face it, if thornton doesnt have his pinpoint location, he gets rocked. fortunately he has had it for the majority of the time, but we have seen what happens when he doesnt. I still dont think that homer Thome hit last season in Minnesota has landed yet. When Thornton has to throw that rolling breaking ball, he is in trouble. Sale on the other hand has a plus fastball and plus slider, and his changeup is pretty good when he can spot it. I also think Sale has that closer mentality "come at you as hard as I can". JMO This seems to be everyones reasoning but I don't see how that would change his effectiveness from the 7th/8th inning to the 9th inning. He's still the same guy that nobody has been able to hit, no matter what inning he's pitching in, I just don't really see how that makes a difference. And I was someone who wanted Chris to be the closer because I'd prefer to not mess with a pretty much perfect thing but unless Matt can't mentally handle the job(which I've seen no indication of) then I really don't see how the switch will effect him at all.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) Im not basing anything on yesterday, but i dont believe Thornton is a closer. I think he is much better as a setup guy Any specific reason?
  6. Get ahead of the hitters Edwin and you're unhittable.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 06:30 AM) Based on one game? Apparently one bloop hit has determined that Matt is not closer material.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) Yeah, the area between his ears. Certainly not going to argue the fact that he was a headcase but when you have that much of a hitch in your swing, you're not going to be successful in the major leagues.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) That couldn't have been a more fortunate original, on-ice, goal call on Hossa's goal. Saved the season. Hockey Gods...thanks. Ya, certainly looked like his stick never touched the puck after his skate did. I'll take it.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) Nice to see the Heat fall to Milwaukee tonight. I think the Bulls are fairly safe with that 1 seed in the East. (knock on wood) Bulls clinch the 1 with a win tomorrow.
  11. He's been doing it for at least as long as he's been here and with as fragile as he's been, he would've got hurt in this area already if this was a legit concern.
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) I think he was at 95-96 once or twice even. He was last night too.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) A great example of this is Brian Anderson. Didn't help that Brian had one of the biggest mechanical flaws you'll ever see in a hitter.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Anyone who watched Tough Enough knows what this is. My buddy from FCW knows most of the kids on TE. Thinks it is awful they picked that bunch. He was a finalist for the show but passed on him. I loved TE back in the day and watched the first episode on Monday, it was enjoyable.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Thornton really didn't make any bad pitches in the 9th today. Butler hit a good pitch down and Kila simply reached out and poked a pitch out of the zone for the double. The hitters adjusted to him, he just has to adjust back. The hit Kila had was a bloop but it wasn't a good spot for Thorntons fastball. That pitch was too far down in the zone which allowed Kila to poke it into left field, if Matty throws that pitch at the letters it's a He Gone.
  16. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:12 PM) I am going to try not to let the bullpen struggles get in the way of the wonderful fact that we won. 7 innings and 1 earned run from the pen today, not exactly struggling. Yes, Matt allowed the one in a save situation but overall the pen was great today.
  17. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Really wish they would have won one before the sox played them. The odds... the odds. Agreed. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) I hope Milledge doesn't touch the OF too. Although maybe I'm being too quick to judge him. He misread Gordon's double and also looked worse than Carlos out there. For the sake of keeping Carlos healthy and hitting well, it might be smart to DH Quentin. No, he was horrendous out there on opening day too. It's not just misplaying 1 ball, he gets bad reads on EVERY ball in the outfield, he's terrible out there. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) The two players look nothing alike. Morel has done nothing but put up good at bats all season long. Anderson, on the other hand, had no idea what a good at bat was. Agreed. I wasn't too high on Morel's bat coming into this season but I've been quite impressed with him at the plate so far.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) So with Humber going today, will he be available to start on the 9th? Yes.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) I didn't understand the rationale of giving Butler anything to hit in that situation. You had a lefty on deck and an open base. You're usually not going to put the tying run on base, though the situation really did change when the count went to 3 and 1. Chris got beat by the count, plain and simple.
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) I know that but they atruggling to be a team a home that can esily lose 100 games and the D'back starting pitching has shut them down and they suck. That's quite a ridiculous way to look at things.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) We are just having TERRIBLE at bats today. Ya, this is a rather pathetic display by the bats today. Francis is quite hittable right now we're getting nothing. Jeff made a beautiful pitch against Pauly with 1st and 3rd and nobody out back a few innings ago but besides that our hitters just aren't having a good day up at the plate.
  22. Just reading through the first few pages of the game thread and yes Milledge is horrendous in the outfield, you could have just watched opening day and figured that out, he's completely lost out there. And for whoever asked if he's worse than Pierre, considering Juan is a good defensive lf and Milledge is terrible, I'd say the answer would be yes. Anyways, it'd sure be nice to get some runs now.
  23. Besides the stupid bunt a couple games back, I've been happy with Ozzie so far this season. Good lineup here. EDIT: Though on 2nd look I'd much rather have Lastings dh'ing.
