Should Sox hit Felipe with pitch or not Sunday?
Rowand44 replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd say it depends on whether the umps warn the teams before the game or not. This would normally be an easy "No" for me but I'm tired of our team getting bullied the last couple of years and Lopez deserves to be hit for being a f***in moron. That being said, if the teams are warned before hand, we can't afford to have Gavin tossed early and go to our pen for a great number of innings. -
Humber 100 percent reminded me of Gavin Floyd today.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 02:57 AM) Does anyone else love when a bunch of nobodies try to say that someone in the MLB is "terrible" at baseball.. Seriously J4L, STFU, Brent Lillibridge would look like Albert Pujols compared to you.. Theres nothing wrong with having a player who can play up to 6 positions on the field and has solid speed to be the 25th man on your roster.. He is what he is, a guy who is gonna pinch run late or be a defensive replacement in the OF late in the game.. At least we can count on him to not walk after a ball he misplayed or to just have it bounce off his glove completely.. At least he is busting his ass, at least he can get a bunt down, at least he can be trusted to catch a routine pop fly.. Do I wish we had a bench that was full of .300 hitters? You bet your tits.. but no one does.. Ya, this is a bunch of crap.

White Sox vs Tampa Bay game thread 4-9-11

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) I'd be surprised if they're going to ask Humber for more than 4 innings. I could see Humber for four and Pena for two. If it's a game, then you can go with the usual suspects--Sale, Santos. If it's not a game, then Jeff Gray will get an inning or two. He probably will either way. If Humber is pitching well they're surely not going to yank him after 4. -

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:36 PM) And unfortunately the game wasn't over by then, and Matt still couldn't get the job done.. We cant afford to let this happen 3-4 more times this month before we realize, yikes, this isn't working! I'll take it you didn't watch either of the blown saves so far. -

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) You can't blame Thornton for this one, but his confidence and Ozzie's confidence is gone after this one ... 1st error is as much PKs fault and you have to blame him as much as Alexi (as did Harold Reynolds) Even if you miss it, knock it down and save the run. Turning your head? Pierre just plain sucks in every way ... It's Santos time No, Pauly literally had no shot at that ball from where it bounced and who the hell cares if he knocks it down or not? It's not like it was the tying run getting into scoring position. And Pierre is actually a very good lf who made just a horrendous play in that inning. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) isn't that kind of significant? Yes but the game should have been over by than, would have been quite the easy inning if Alexei and Juan make plays that they usually can make with their eyes closed. When you make the guy throw a bunch of extra pitches because you make 2 errors behind him, sometimes that s*** is going to happen. -

Really, 2 errors and 2 bloops in the 9th and now we're just done with Matt? And yes I know he gave up a bomb to Johnson but the inning should have been over already. Yeesh. Anyways, this one hurts. Having 2 of your better defenders make errors in the 9th to lose a game is quite painful. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) With KC's loss we are now in sole possession of 1st place. We're tied with the Indians.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) I think improving a playoff team into a title contender is substantially more impressive than getting a mediocre team into the playoffs although Collins has done a great job. Popovich is the only other guy who I would even consider. I think George Karl has a case as well.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Boone Logan is a top ten trend on Twitter right now. Apparently he doesn't like getting guys out. Bartolo was damn good today though.

Not that his numbers weren't insane to begin with but it's amazing how much better Frank Thomas continues to look after his retirement.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) What a f***ing loser. Talk about destroying a legacy at the very tail end of a career. Yeup, that about sums it up.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) Cough, Zoomslowik, cough. No, I actually respect the hell out of Zoom, he knows his s*** and he definitely watches games. He's one of the brighter basketball minds on this board imo. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) When you say "rips Derrick Rose," do you mean says that he's a really good player, but isn't the MVP of the league because the Bulls success is more dependent on their defense than Rose? Because I don't really understand what's so wrong about that. I agree that advanced metrics aren't perfect in basketball, but to ignore them because they don't agree with your opinion is just as stupid as old-timey baseball people ignoring Jeter's obviously deficient defense because their eyes say otherwise. Hollinger watches plenty of basketball and doesn't just stare at numbers all day. He uses the numbers to supplement his basketball interest and help give a better all-around view of a player/team. And because I can't help myself, why are all Bulls fans so damn defensive about everything related to their team? I've tend to notice this with anything related to the Bulls, not just the Rose/MVP talk, but someone said Rose wasn't MVP, big deal. Just about everyone else still thinks he is. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, why do you guys seem to always go apes*** when other people don't think the same thing as you? I've pretty much stayed out of the MVP talk until the last few weeks because some of the comparisons that people are throwing out there for Rose's game are just ridiculous. Just as in any sport you have to take the stats with the eye test but basketball it's so much more important to watch the games than it is to sit there and analyze statistics. If Hollinger is really going to tell me he's not watching Rose play but he can justify saying he deserves to be 6th on a MVP ballot than he's a f***in moron. You watch a bunch of Bulls games and you realize just how important and just how good Derrick is, period.

Adam Dunn had emergency appendectomy last night.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) I agree...Santos has looked great, and Thornton got beat on a nice piece of hitting. Sale rebounded with a huge 2 innings vs KC, and Crain has been fine as well. Ohman and Pena are bad...but that was expected. It was basically Ohman on opening day and Sale falling behind Butler in the game we blew in KC, that's really the extent of it so far, and as you said, Pena sucks, no argument from me there. Thornton got beat on a bloop single by Kila in a game that besides that inning the pen went 6 with out giving up an earned run. The back 4 in our pen are going to be about as good as anyones this year imo, Ohman should hopefully be able to get 1 lefty out a game if needed and well Pena is just garbage but overall our pen will be just fine. -

The badness of our bullpen has been ridiculously overblown so far this year. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) Part of the overall team problem with lefties is that the middle of the order, PK, TCQ and Dunn all hit RHP better than LHP. So even though it looks like the lineup is balanced is isn't. This is why you see the lineup changed against LHP so often. As a team the Sox have problems with LHP especially the "soft tossing" ones. Konerko hits lefties better than righties.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Anybody ever look at John Hollinger's Twitter feed? He basically just rips Derrick Rose on it a few times a week, and then last night he was on there saying Rose is 6th in his mind for MVP while he also bragged about not watching the game. How the hell does a guy like that have a paying job at ESPN? He's basically just an advanced metrics dude. And, while such things work really well in an individualized game like baseball, the same cannot be said for basketball. At all. Any statistical category that says Derrick Rose is the 6th most valuable player really should just be laughed at. This 100 percent sums up my feelings. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem whatsoever with stat heads but if you're not going to watch these games and expect me to respect you as a basketball mind, you got another thing coming. This guy is good with numbers(hell, some of his stats are very useful) but he doesn't understand the game of basketball at all.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) Unless I'm missing something, I don't believe so. Let's say we get those 2 and that's it. 97 points, I'll assume it was a ROW, so 38 ROW. Dallas wins out in regulation. 97 points, 38 ROW. The tiebreaker after ROW is points earned in games between the 2 teams. We have earned 3, Dallas has earned 6. No, you're not. I did the same calculations a couple of nights ago, you're spot on.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) I learned last year not to doubt the Celtics based on regular season play. They're just not the same team with out Perkins, that's pretty obvious.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) You had to know that the Sox wouldn't stick with 6 relievers for long. So if you are looking at sending down Lilli or Milli, its really pretty simple: Lillibridge is much more versatile defensively, and Milledge looked pretty bad in the field. You don't really expect either to hit for much, so... seems like the logical choice. Well that's where some people will disagree with you.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) I don't know if you can judge the Celtics on their regular season play anymore, even though this team has looked terrible since the Perkins trade. Orlando doesn't really scare me more than Boston. Boston just isn't that scary since the Perkins trade, everyone knew it was a dumb trade and it's certainly turned out to be one. Definitely think we're heading towards a Bulls-Heat ECF.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:28 AM) Was that really a slider that Jackson was throwing? I've never seen a slider with that much downward movement. The ball was diving straight down, as if falling off a table. That looks more like a splitter to me. The velocity was pretty consistently around 87 to 89. Does that seem a little high for a split finger fastball? He throws a splitter too but ya his slider has more downward movement than the average one does.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) Kurt Thomas and Keith Bogans really pissed them off. Thomas should be a big factor come playoff time. He's a dirty player that'll annoy the hell out of the other team on defense. He was very effective tonight on that end tonight. Absolutely. Bogans played a very nice game tonight, made a couple 3's and annoyed the hell out of Ray Allen. The only thing that is worries me a tad about this Bulls team in the playoffs is that it's pretty clear that Boozer is going to have a hard time scoring against some of the longer defenders down low. Now, this should really only come into play against Boston or LA if we meet up with them but it's something to look at for sure.
