  1. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 11:03 PM) Some positives: Sale failed. He needed this. Time to get hungry boy and earn some real cred. Beckham continues to roll. Tcq? Rios is in the game now. Floyd going deep with 1.5 pitches working. None of this will matter when we start a 25-5 run. Sergio and Jesse were fantastic.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) That'd be OK as you say. But if we lose tomorrow. The first road trip is a fat grade of D, considering the competition. And either way it's 5 games. I sure as hell wont be happy with a 2-3 start but it certainly wont be time to panic.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) Yes, yes, yes. Up two in the eighth, gotta win. Sucks to be 2-2 vs. Cleveland and KC. Gotta do better than that. Still early, though. You win tomorrow and you're 3-2 on the first road trip of the season against lesser competition, that's a perfectly fine trip to start the year. Calm down. This was definitely a bad loss but it was one of our better pitchers who got beaten by the count in this game. It happens unfortunately.
  4. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) So, who wants to justify Ozzie not putting Thornton in there? Anyone? You planning on using him for 2 or 3 innings? You really have to wait as long as possible to put him in the game in that situation.
  5. Extra innings were absolutely brutal and Sale got beat by the damn count, if he gets ahead of hitters he's going to be unhittable, and I have no doubt that will be the case this year. On the other side of that, Pena is definitely garbage, you knew this game was over once he came in. It sure does suck to lose games like this but hopefully Mark gets us back on track tomorrow.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) I would be absolutely shocked if he is a first round pick. It is more likely he isn't drafted at all than he goes in the first round. He'll be a first round pick.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) KC is a much more rounded out team this year... a bit under the radar. They could easily be .500. No.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) It doesn't work often, but you have Vizquel and Pierre hitting behind Alexei. I'm just chalking it up to non-execution more than a bad managerial move. But if he decided that he would never call for a bunt unless it's for one run in the 8th or 9th inning, it wouldn't bother me either. And Alexei never executes sacrifice bunts, you'd think after his first 3 years with the Sox, that would be something that Ozzie would have caught onto by now.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) I'm going to give Ozzie a break. If Alexei gets the runners over, chances are he comes back with Omar trying to do the same thing with a squeeze play. And if that worked, everyone is happy. Alexei just didn't get the job done in a close game where Danks and Masterson were both pitching well. Now if it was Vizquel and Pierre on 1st and 2nd, I wouldn't want Beckham to sacrifice with his live bat and Dunn and Konerko coming up behind him. No, it's a common theme around here that people are pretty unhappy when we try to bunt with no outs and 2 people on early in a game. Not to mention, it NEVER and I mean f***IN NEVER works for this team. It's one of those things your manager has to realize at some point but apparently he doesn't learn. Vizquel and Pierre should be the only two people ever trying to sacrifice bunt on this club.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) They only beat Duke by 1 in the final 4. But that Duke team was also loaded with Deng, Williams, Redick, Duhon, and Ewing. I still wish that Illinois team had been on the other side of the bracket from Duke and UConn because they would have had a great shot at making the final 4 with how they were playing at the end of the year. Duke was winning that whole game too and were up by like 10 with 3 or so minutes left before UConn made quite the come back. And ya, Emeka was hurt for a decent part of that season iirc which derailed them but then they ran through the big east tournament and were pretty much the favorites going into the NCAA's.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) He hardly ever works the lefty/lefty matchup
  12. I hated the bunt but this game was about our bullpens inability to get outs overall. s*** happens, go get 'em in KC!
  13. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 07:47 AM) Pierre LF, Beckham 2B, Dunn DH, Konerko 1B, Rios CF, Quentin RF, AJ C, Ramirez SS, Vizquel 3B, Danks P per Gonzo That works. Lets sweep these assholes.
  14. QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 11:44 PM) I hope Butler wins but I wouldnt be upset seeing UCONN winning either. Just get this crap tournament over with so we can move fully into baseball and the NHL playoffs. I mean the overall level of play certainly isn't very good but this has been a very fun tournament regardless.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) Until this one is also taken away for something completely out of Calipari's hands because he is just unlucky. BUT HE WAS NEVER INDICTED BY THE NCAA. Seriously, I heard that about 30 times yesterday, so apparently it was just a coincidence that both of his final fours at two different schools were taken away, he had nothing to do with it.
  16. I really enjoy this whole Sox and Bulls winning on the same day thing.
  17. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) Very underrated to. He could actually score more than what people think by looking at his stats. He really epitomized a team player because he sacrificed his scoring for being a defensive-first rebounder. Very deserving and key cog in five championship teams. The guy might be as dumb as they come off the court but he had the best basketball iq I've ever seen in my life, he was just f***in awesome. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) Unfortunately it doesn't matter much, as the Lakers have blitzed the league since the break. Ya, I'd be pretty shocked if the Lakers don't win the west at this point but what the hell, might as well take the overall 1 seed just in case.
  18. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Wouldn't be surprised to see Milledge for Rios. No thanks. Rios swung the bat damn good today, keep him in the lineup and I don't feel like having a Milledge adventure for a whole game in the outfield quite yet.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) WTF happened? It was 3-0 Pirates in the 8th last I checked? Cubs scored 5 in the 8th I believe.
  20. I can realistically say that we'll be the only team in the majors that's 2-0 with our best pitcher going in game 3 so that's nice.
  21. Marmol is still nasty if anyone was wondering.
  22. Nice to be 2-0 with our best starter going tomorrow, hopefully we can finish 'em off!
  23. Jesus, poor Rios. He's absolutely destroyed the ball twice and has nothing to show for it.
  24. Excited/nervous to see Edwin pitch today. Besides Peavy, he's obviously the biggest x factor in this rotation, I really have no clue what to expect from him. Wouldn't be shocked if he's our best pitcher and wouldn't be surprised if he has an era of 5+.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 07:19 AM) He's been Wil Oh Man for a while. He's basically the mirror image of Scott Linebrink, one lefty on righty. You may get something out of him if you use him as a LOOGY. Expecting much else is trouble, but it appears the Sox aren't counting on him for a whole lot. Yesterday was garbage time so maybe he got some runs out of his system. Well, everyone in the world knows he needs to be used as a LOOGY, period. If he's used correctly, he'll be just fine, if not then ya we have some problems. We have two other fantastic lefties in our pen so hopefully Ohman is used only against left handed hitters and then he should find himself a nice little role in the pen.
