QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) Why? Is he batting? Duh.
-
Absolutely humungous.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) I figured you wonder about his take on Broadway some.... Talking with Row44, we're convinced if you ever see Lance, you'll go up to him and snap him in half. Lance should really get a restraining order on Flash.

Good stuff.

Thatta boy Lance.

Well this was a fun discussion for no reason.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) I think Fields could put up better than 4 extra base hits in 62 ABs and have an OPS higher than .550. I really admire the way Anderson is hitting now, because he looked like a little leaguer the first two months of this season. Fields will K a lot, but he does have some pop in his bat. Ok, I should have added that he'd hit run into a few more. He'd hit for a worse average though, that's what I was trying to say.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) There's not a chance in hell that Fields would be as bad as (April) Anderson was at the plate. He'd be worse, there's really no doubt in my mind.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) If Fields were to make the jump to the majors next season, I'd suspect he'd struggle more than Brian Anderson has this year. Problem is, Fields doesn't have great defense to fall back on like BA had. Beat you to it by a minute.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Didn't you also say Matt Thornton would have given you a stroke by now? Do you really think Fields could come up right now and produce? I really don't believe he could, think Brian Anderson in April, but worse at the plate and without the fantastic d.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Fields would be more of a disaster than Mackowiak/Cintron at 3B. Seconded.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) Who said anything about him being ready? All I'm saying is Chris Young hasn't proved jack in the bigs. Someone brought up a nice post about how many spects we've traded who didn't pan out and the only one who has come back to bite us was Maj. Now if the sox won it again this season, or next season we did it, would this even be in discussion? I wouldn't think so. I wasn't even talking about Chris Young but you brought him up. All I'm saying is that Fields is still k'ing way too much, that's it.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Let me break it down. Fields is in his second full season in the minors in his professional career. He is hitting .300+ in AAA which I thought we moved him too quickly considering he struggled a bit in AA. I should have worded it better by saying how he compared Young's 4+ seasons in the minors cutting down K's whereas Fields has barely been in the minors for a couple of seasons, who has jumped to AAA quickly and who hasn't had the time to cut down his K's (actually come to think of it he K'd 140+ times last season whereas he has only K'd 110+ so far this late in the season)also consider the fact that he K'd more in the beginning of the season than he has now. Now yes, he has to learn to put the ball in play more, but his numbers have all gone up this season and he'll probably walk alittle more as well. EDIT: Didn't know he was also stealing bases as well. Well I didn't realize we were comparing him to Chris. The fact is, yes Fields has made some impressive strides this year but he still has a lot to work on. He still is striking out at an alarming rate, leading me to believe he's no where near ready yet.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) Ditto. I'm surprised he has, considering I never liked Chris Young as a spect when he was here. You couldn't be more wrong. ? Fields is striking out at an alarming rate.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) I thought Escobar was pitching in relief in game 2...no? Either way, bring it Mark! QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) I believe Washburn started game 2. Both of you are correct. -
Garza could be solution to 5th spot in rotation...

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) I think a lot of people are disappointed in Lance's periphrials. I'd like to see the Sox promote him soon, as I think we can be a little agressive with him. Yup, I understand that. To me it just doesn't make sense to come to all these conclusions before either makes it to the majors. -

We really have to wait until either of them make the majors to declare Garza>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Broadway, which seems to be the opinion around here. Broadway sure does take a beating from this site and he's probably the last one of our prospects to deserve it. -
Who will be the best QB in the league this year?
Rowand44 replied to cuddlyboy26's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm with balta on Rivers. I expect him to have a very good season. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) We should win when we score 5, but even good pitching allows 6 runs in a game now and then. We had the best pitching staff in the league last year, and I'm pretty sure there were games when the Sox staff allowed 6 or even 7 runs. I don't have actual statistical evidence, at this point, to support it, but that's cuz I have to work in like 5 minutes. I'll try and get back to it later, or perhaps someone else will be able to before I do. That's just what seems like has happened this season, and it has happened in the past when we had a great offense too. wite, this pitching staff has been bad so they've allowed 6 runs plenty of times this season. You're basically making the point for the offense that they can't score 6 or 7 runs every game, it just can't happen. Lets just say that the pitching has not won us many games this season.

Who will be the best QB in the league this year?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) Manning will be the best until the playoffs, just like every year. Ya, I really don't think there can be much argument with that. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Or it could start putting up more runs consistently, instead of having our standard 12 run game followed by a 5 run game followed by a 3 run game. The offense has consistantly put up a lot of runs all season long. They had a bad 2 week stretch right after the allstar break and that was basically it. The offense has been outstanding this year.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) So, here's the question...do we sit here and just keep repeating the "Blame the pitching staff" mantra, or do we actually accept the cards we've been dealt, and decide what the best way to play them is? Either the pitching staff will get better or it won't. The offense isn't going to decide that. All the offense can do is put up as many runs every game as possible. I think this would help, and sitting around saying "the pitching staff should be better" doesn't do anything to win us more games. The offense is putting up as many runs as they can, I really don't think they could do any better than they are right now. I just don't think it's smart to mess with an offense that has been the best in baseball all year. It has been repeated a lot but everything depends on this teams starting pitching, it's that simple.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) That's a pretty stupid argument. We've had a ton of blowouts. And we're 15-14 in 1-run games. Making small changes to the lineup could make that 20-9. Yup, the reason we've lost a lot of one run games has been because of the offense.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) I would rather mess with the pitch. If our pitching gets in check, we will be fine. You know I agree with that.
