  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) I thought we signed Paulie for 5/60. We did.

    Zito?

    I'd do Vazquez and Sweeney in a heartbeat for Zito. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if Beane is interested in Vaz.
  3. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) Great game, but do we need a thread for a team that will be the 2nd best college basketball team in Illinois this coming season?
  4. There is no doubt in my mind that Bmac would be a better starter than Vaz at the moment, hell I don't think it'd even be close. That being said, Vaz would be a god awful reliever imo. I know his numbers are good early in games but coming out of the pen, he'd be put in high pressure situations right away and that would lead me to believe he'd get absolutely rocked there as well. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:02 AM) I don't know why many assume BMac would suddenly be way better than Vazzy. Can't you picture BMac going 5 strong innings like Vazzy and getting lit up in the sixth also? Garland sucked big time his first few seasons. Watching Bmac pitch this year I don't sense a ton of zeros on the board. Sounds like the deal where the first team quarterback is spiffty and the fans are calling for the unknown. Once he gets in, the backup isn't always the answer. Brandon has already had better pitcher performances in more big games than Javy ever has.

    Ross isn't ever going to get a chance to play everyday. I honestly do believe Ross could be an everyday first baseman(a Sean Casey type) in this league but because of his age and lack of power for a 1b, unfortunately I think he'll never get a shot.
  6. QUOTE(korntownballa @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Scroll down: http://www.mlb-trade-rumors.com/rumors.htm mlbtraderumors is garbage just so you know.
  7. QUOTE(korntownballa @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) Not even if it's Peavy? I think we need a top of the line starter, Peavy is just that! Peavy has a 5.01 era this season. I love Peavy but obviously something isn't right with him.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Brian got worked over there. Ortiz actually located a nice breaking ball for strike 3.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) McCarthy's up in the pen. Ozzie isn't fooling around today. I hope he does this much more often. With the bullpen we have, we can afford to let the pen pitch 4-5 innings in some games.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) People just don't trade for first baseman without power. You have guys like Sean Casey or Mark Grace but those are usually few and far between. ROgo is a solid hitter with gap power, who is solid defensively and has good speed. It's still a mystery to me how Rogo has so little power, considering he's such a big guy.
  11. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) LOL @ Ortiz. Didnt we almost trade for him? Him and Jones for Maggs was the big rumor in 04.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) I pretty much mean that Thornton is the go-to lefty now. The guy we want out there in a pressure situation, the one I trust more. Didn't mean that Cotts is anywhere near as bad as Marte was last year. I pointed out about a month ago that it seems like Ozzie trusts Thornton more than Cotts, and I stick by that. Fair enough and I'll agree. Just wanted to throw it out there that Neal is no where near as bad as Damaso was last year. Last season we all knew what was happening when Dam came into the game(walk, hbp, hit). Neal I still have a ton of faith in, though he's been a bit off as of late.
  13. I'm not a huge fan of Fields starting for us everyday in left field next season, however if he does, then we better find a shortstop that can leadoff.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) I'd say: '05 - '06 Marte - Cotts Cotts - Thornton I don't know the exact numbers but I'm almost positive that the Marte-Cotts comparison ain't really that close. I think Neal has allowed about 30 percent of inherited runners to score this year, while Damaso allowed a ton more than that last season. EDIT: And by numbers I just mean the inherited runners to score since that is what Damaso did so poorly with last season.
  15. I like the Linebrink and Carillo for Fields. I'm still not sold on Josh and if we can get some value out of him like those two then I'm all for it. If Kenny really wants Linebrink, it seems as if since there aren't any good starting pitchers available that he's trying to make our bullpen the best in the league.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) Worry about that in '09. We really need something pinned at the top of pht that just says, "JOE CREDE IS NOT A FA AFTER THIS SEASON."
  17. Pretty interesting trade. I really don't think Texas gave up much at all but on the other hand I still don't see this trade helping them win the west.
