  1. Unfortunately there was no starting pitching available, or at least it seems. That really would have been the only thing worth while doing and I guess a 4th outfielder who can actually play cf wouldn't have hurt either. I will say that I'm happy we didn't trade any of our big guns for an Andruw Jones or an Alfonso Soriano.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Top of the order He's got a worse career obp than Uribe. Cesar is a fantastic defender but he's not even close to being a top of the order hitter.
  3. Trading Brandon for Andruw Jones would have been a bad idea. I'm very happy that Kenny balked at this.
  4. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:11 AM) The same "special talent" that got killed by the Orioles. Yup, the same one.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:03 AM) See, now, this has Kenny Williams written all over it. A player who will be here beyond this year, is in his prime, and would immediately upgrade the part of the team that the Sox are supposed to be best at. Yikes, I'd probably trade our top three 'spects (Fields, Sweeney, and Broadway) for Oswalt. They can have Garcia, too. Free agent at year's end, I believe. In a heartbeat.
  6. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:25 AM) Ken Rosenthal writes that the Orioles and Astros had a deal on the table that would've sent Roy Oswalt, Adam Everett and a third player to Baltimore for Miguel Tejada, but it was killed by Peter Angelos. *** The Orioles are the worst run franchise in baseball. Two deals that favored the Orioles were both shot down. OH. MY. GOD.
  7. QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) Cotts is turning into this years Damaso Marte. He allows all or most of his inherited runners to score and then strands his own runners, thus deceptively lowering his ERA. That's really not true at all. As of late, he's definitely struggling and he's let a lot of inhertied runners to score, that you're correct about. On the whole though, he's done a pretty damn good job of stranding inherited runners.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) Where did you see that they actually included Oswalt in talks? That would be horribly stupid. And if they did even mention Oswalt, that deal should have been done. The O's should have grabbed Santana when they had the chance. I've heard now that talks between Houston and the O's have broken off, most likely because Balti wanted Oswalt, at least that would be my guess. I'll second the Santana notion.
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) I'm almost positive they would want McCarthy. Every single team is going to want McCarthy because he's just a special talent. I think there could be ways to get around having to give up Mac or Anderson in a deal even for an ace like Jason Schmidt. Obviously that's only if the Giants really would trade Schmidt, we'll see.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) The only move worth making is one that instills life into our starting rotation. No other move will matter, even if we acquired Tejada and Soriano. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I couldn't agree more.
  11. Not sure where he got it from but a friend of mine sent me this: If Schmidt is available, well I hope Kenny is trying his best to get him.
  12. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) Thanks for the comments.. I'm alright with the trade I suppose.. if any of you have any more comments on Ronnie I'd like to see em (good or bad) He probably plays the deepest 2b in the majors, which enables him to make some pretty nice plays. He also swings about as hard as he can at every pitch.
  13. Add me to the club that can't stand Ronnie but thinks he's a pretty solid player.

    Zito?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) Would you do this deal? Vazquez + $15M cash + Broadway + Fields for Zito? No I wouldn't. For one of of those spects though, I really would. I just think the Zito gives us such a better chance to win the world series than we have now.

    Zito?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) He will drive your ass nuts with the walks, he's similar to Contreras at the beginning of last season, you just know he's going to go ou there and walk 3-4 guys a game, constantly getting into jams. He's walked 66 batters this year, that's 2nd in the AL only to Daniel Cabrera. Also, I don't see any way you can get him without giving up McCarthy. I know he's walked a ton this year but he's still found a way to get out of it. I'll agree that he'd most likely drive me nuts with the walks but it'd be worth it because he would be our 2nd best starter with ease this season. If it took McCarthy to get him then fine no deal but if there is a way to get him with out giving up Brandon we really have to try imo.
  16. QUOTE(loltrain @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) With Sheffield and Matsui back, noone in the majors, Detroit or Chicago included is better than New York. The key thing is that this is *on paper*, they were better than Chicago on paper last year, and look how that went. But saying it doesn't worry you is silly, it worries me, and we're alot farther ahead of them than you are. No, they really weren't. Wasn't even that close to be honest. There are still many teams in the majors better than the yankees, they still won't make the playoffs. Book it.

    Zito?

While Zito might not be a great starter he's still pretty damn good and would easily be our 2nd best sp at the moment. I'm sorry but it's not fair to judge the guy from what he's been since 02 considering you then throw out his best season but his worst season which was clearly an aberration is still in that mix. Zito has had one below average season in career and besides that he's been pretty damn good. As far as the ballpark argument goes, well he has a better era away from Oakland than he does at home. If we could somehow get him without trading Brandon McCarthy then I hope KW jumps all over it.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Can I ask why the Yankees don't worry you? They just swept us with guys named Guiel, Cairo, and Cabrera starting for them. They haven't missed the playoffs since I can't even remember. They just added a guy with the 6th highest OBP in all of baseball. Their starters have even been better than ours. They worry the hell out of me. Cause we're still the better team, one that is playing like crap right now but still better. Like I said, the Yankees won't beat us out for the wildcard this year. If we get this team back on the right track then we'll be in the playoffs, if not, then the Twins will be in the playoffs. The Yankees still won't win the wildcard.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Gload can't scoop for crap at first. Nice.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) Who the hell is "drooling over Fields in left"? If Young was still with this organization, no doubt in my mind he would be up by now replacing Podsednik. I highly, highly doubt that. Next season, maybe, but there's no way in my mind that he would be up here right now.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) You're fooling yourself if you think this trade shouldn't worry us. One of our 2 main rivals for the WC (the only race we have a shot in) just improved tremendously. And they've already stuck it to us once this season. Plus, they haven't missed the playoffs in how many years? KW needs to make a move, or quite possibly we're screwed. The trade itself doesn't worry me one bit. We're still the more talented team. Now, our own team definitely worries me but the yankees still don't.
  22. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) .427 OBP??? 20 for 24 in steals? More BB's than K's. Less runs scored than Scott Podsednik. Anywho, this trade doesn't bug me at all, if our team wakes up, Abreu or not we're in the playoffs, if they continue to play like crap then they aren't going anywhere. That simple.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) The way I remember it, the Angels offered 5/65 but PK signed with Sox after we picked up Thome. Ya, I'm pretty sure the Angels did offer 5/65 though I'm not 100 percent positive. I am 100 percent though that we signed Paul for 5/60.
