I wonder how many convictions since 1990 when the courts ruled that DNA evidence could be used in criminal trials. As a member of the criminal justice system I am tired of hearing this rid the death penalty because of the possibility of innocence when people could careless about the people that serve life in prison who could be innocent. It is almost like it is ok for an innocent person to spend life in prison but when an innocent person is sent to death row it makes the whole system flawed.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) Occassionally the state just misses and executes an innocent person. That's is why I only favor it when the evidence is so conclusive that there could not be anyone else who committed the crime and that the crime meets at least 4 of the 5 point criteria 1. Murder committed to cover up another crime 2. Committed during the act of another of another Part 1 crime 3. The crime(s) placed the people in extreme danger 4. Murder of 2 or more people at the same time 5. Murder occurred while trying to prevent arrest

The fact is Williams was found guilty in a court of law and the trial was conducted properly and the sentence most certainly fits the crime now he needs to face his punishment. I am a strong believer in the death penalty when used correctly a case down here in bama where these two druggies killed 3 cops by shooting them each at least 40 times. In the first case the jury gave life but the judge Nall overturned it and gave death which was the first time that ever happened in Bama, the second defender was given death by Judge Nall on Friday. These 2 as an extra insult keep sending letters to the victims rejoycing in there acts, the second offender when he walked into the courtroom Friday pointed at the victims and said you better hope I get the death Penalty or I will remind you everyday about what happened. As long as there is solid proof I have no problem using the death peanlty.

whatever side you are on you have to admit Iran is a very dangerous country filled with terrorists who are threating to wipe a country off the map and the last promise they made was in 1979 when they kidnaped our soliders and held them for over a year so we need to be careful with Iran

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) ESPN news is reporting that Tejada denies ever asking for a trade. I think this was meant to get King Peter to actually do something to fix the team which means to actually get some pitching which for some reason doesn't think the O's need now maybe Angelos will get some pitching. When I first seen the story I couldn't believe Miguel would demand a trade and now it looks like he didn't

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) My money is that he is nowhere near Birmingham at the start of the season, but stranger things have happened. I also tend to agree from Great Falls to Birmingham in the off season is quite a jump I can't say I have seen that kind of jump by a pitcher but who knows with a bullpen that is so unsettled it could happen

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) Off subject, Chris Young in Charlotte = sick #'s. I am thinking Chris could hit anywhere between 33 and 37 homeruns and here is why: 1st. Young's first 2 weeks in AA was a learning curve because of his jump from low A ball, Kannapolis. 2nd Young missed 2 weeks of game time in July because of hip injury and it took an extra week to get his swing back. 3rd Young hit 26 homeruns in the toughest hitting park in the Minor Leagues @ Hoover Met 4th Young will hit in the bandbox of Knights Stadium

The Indians won Minor League team of the year but Jacksonville Suns were a close second they defeated the Barons 3-0 and then West Tennessee 3-1 in the SL playoffs. The Suns had the top 5 prospects of 2006 on that team, The Southern League was also voted the best in 2006.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) I would think Fields or Schurenstein would get the nod at 3rd. I don't think Fields has shown enough to start at AAA, BHAM, what do you think? Right now I have him at AA but he is still not a lock yet I think the Rule 5 pick of 3b Tim Hummel all but assures Josh of a return trip. I would like Josh to come back to work on his Defense, Mostly his footwork that is where he commits 80% of his errors that is why I think he can still become a solid 3rd baseman because his weaknesses can be corrected he was starting down that road at the end of last year, He has such a cannon that he can make great plays look routine another note Josh also just completed his first full year of pro ball and he improved greatly the 2nd half of last season.

Orioles need to get rid of Angelos not Tejada
BHAMBARONS replied to Pierzynski 12's topic in The Diamond Club
King Peter could do everyone in Baltimore a favor by going to the top floor of the Warehouse across from Camden Yards and jumping out the window, what a disgrace to baseball -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) Tejada should sleep in the bed he makes. Baltimore offerred him the most money and years so he signed with them. He couldn't realistically think they were going to be better than NY or Boston, could he? Now that he has his guaranteed contract, he asked to be moved. Sorry Miquel, the Orioles made a 6 year committment to you, the least you could do is recipricate. With 40 million is cleared salary they could have fielded a very competitve team and it was assumed by the players and fans alike that King Peter would spend that money instead he chose to line his own pockets.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) leading that young orioles roster, who he basically threw under a bus today. No King Peter did that a long time ago it is really hard to have a winning ball club when your owner could care less if they even played. That is why I am glad we have an owner like Jerry who cares about winning and even though I have had some disagreements with Jerry nothing is worse than playing for an owner who couldn't give a care if they even showed up.
-
QUOTE(Fingish @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) why would the O's trade him to a team in their own division? doesn't make sense... Well if it means King Peter can grab a few extra dollars he will do it he has no care about winning it is all about making money for him at any expense.
-
I have followed the O's a lot with them being my first team I rooted for as a kid and I don't blame Tejada one bit for wanting to leave he came to Baltimore a part of so called rebuilding program with a promise to improve each year when really they have fallen apart each year. Rotoworld mentioned the O's trying to be competitive because of there offer to Pauly but they still have not made one credible offer to help fix that pitching staff, Rotoworld also mentions that Leo is coming and that he will solve all of the pitching problems well he would have to be god reincarnated for that to happen and also I remeber them saying that Ray Miller was going to save them last season. Also the O's have been clearing out the bad contracts of Albert Bell, Scott Erickson and Palmerio there 2006 Payroll would have been at 70 Million according to ESPN so they can't use the Texas excuse of not having the money because they do it is simply that King Peter is trying to pocket as much of the fans money as possible and until he is taken down it will continue. Thanks for listening to my rant

If the Sox's decide to get involved and Brandon Sing is still avaible I hope we would take a shot with him doesn't have great Defense but has ruthian power and led the SL in Homers last season.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) I still think the cubs got the better end of the deal. I'm glad the White Sox didn't trade for Pierre, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good leadoff hitter. Career BA of over .300 and a lot of speed is pretty good IMO. If they were proven AAA prospects or top 10 in the league I would probably have a different opinion on the trade. But obviously Pierre wasn't worth much to most MLB clubs, seeing that this was probably the best offer they recieved. AAA isn't what it use to be with many good prospects getting called straight up to the big's so AA leagues have really became a measuring point for the good prospects. The 18,19 prospects in a league that had 14 MLB Callups is real good. I see Pinto as a Neal Cotts type of player he has some devastating pitches. I think this one of the Marlins better trades if not the best.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) See, I see it the other way. I'd much rather have Wilkerson -- he makes half as much money, plays multiple positions defensively (and, while I don't have the stats in front of me, I'm sure he's a better defender than Soriano -- who's awful in the field), and he walks a ton more. I love this deal from the Rangers side of it. And if the PTNBL is one of these pitchers Collin Balester,Clint Everts,Armando Galarraga, Mike Hinckley then the Rangers really did well in this deal.
-
The Marlins got a good taste of what those 2 can do in the SL Playoffs as Pinto, Nolasco went games 1 and 2 the Carolina Mudcats did not score a run in those 2 games only had 5 hits and struck out 21 times. I just think Pinto being a lefty has a chance to be a top of the line starter and the Marlins got them selves a solid package for a fire sale.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) this sucks the cubs give up nothing and get a good leadoff hitter in return. Those 2 pitchers Pinto, Nolasco are very good pitching prospects I seen them both too many times this year. Pinto is a 22 year old lefty with some nasty stuff he was started in AAA this season and struggled he was promoted to soon but when he came back down to West Tenn the first week of May he was awesome the rest of the season he led the SL in K's per 9 innings at 11.62. Nolasco also has good stuff led the SL in K's with 173 he is only 23 and has never seen AAA ball yet. The 2 combined in the SL were 24-6 2.75 ERA and 301 K's. So this deal actually has the chance to be great for the Marlins

Baseball America's Rule V Draft Preview
BHAMBARONS replied to southsideirish71's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) Let's hear from some of our Barons watchers. You've seen this play for the Lookouts. Any thoughts? I seen him 17 times last season. He has a good stroke but one thing not mentioned is his defense I was not impressed with his defense one bit made way to many errors (27) and several other miscues that didn't go for errors. Against the Barons this year he hit .234 (15-64) HR 10 RBI and 11K's. His one good game against the Barons came July 31st when he hit a Tracey sinker over the wall in RF for a grandslam but overall he really struggled against Baron pitching and most noticeably against Haigwood when he fanned 3 times and looked clueless. -
