  1. Barons 6 Huntsville 0 W- Haeger CG (5-1) L-Habel Wow Charlie Haeger was outstanding when he got behind in the counts he could still pitch out of them. Many of the Huntsville batters after there AB were over threw the helmets in frusteration. The 5 Stars hits 3 were broken bat bloops and infield singles. Chris Young out of the leadoff spot drew 4 walks had a very contested steal of 3rd and scored 3 times. Darren Blakely had a 3-3 night 2 run Bomb and RBI double and RBI single.
  2. Barons 5 Huntsville 3 W-Philips (8-4) L-Taubenhime Sv-Malone (1) Chris Young is on fire at the plate hit a long homerun today and was robbed on a great leaping catch that would have been a double. Josh Fields added a pair of hits including a double. Pedro Lopez had a pair oh hits and Jonathan Aceves first AB since returning to Bham drilled a 2 run single. Jerry Owens hit streak ended at 18 due to a great diving catch at 1st that would have been a triple. Heath pitched a good game and Corwin Malone got the save in the 9th saving the bullpen from a near disaster B.J. Lamura had a very disapointing outing walking 2 and giving up a 3-2 pitch double.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) Tom, what are you thoughts on Owens compared to Spidale, because I'm assuming you saw quite a bit of Mike last year. Spidale is a good hitter but not even close to Owens who has hit all season long now a 18 game streak and 31 out of 32. Owens is better in the outfield than Spidale. I like both players but think Owens is the better of the two.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) Fair enough, BHAM I see you reading this thread, I'd be interested as to what your thoughts are on Jerry. Great slap hitter will hit to all fields has a very good batting eye. I would like to see him get consistant playing time in Charlotte. I like Jerry he has like a pods clone. Couple of notes I think Jerry's Power numbers will rise in Charlotte he does have some power and those numbers will rise. Also a lot of people on here look at his SB stats and think he is not a base stealer but that is not the truth Jerry has been hosed on several calls and few more pickoffs but when Jerry takes off he is not caught often.
  5. A great man he was sechduled to throw out the first of the Rickwood classic a couple weeks back but he was already in the hospital. He played at rickwood many times as a tribute the Barons had a moment of silence. RIP double duty we will miss you
  6. Barons 17 Huntsville 11 W- LaMura L- Gamble Wow that game had plenty of offense. For the second night in a row every hitter in the lineup picked up a hit Stars where Jerry Owens 3-5, Chris Young 4-6 6 RBI Ryan Sweeney had 2 hits and the one that put the Barons ahead for good. In the 10 run 8th Chris Young was 2-2 with 2 doubles 4 RBI also stole 3rd base. In this game Casey Rogowski had a tremendous collison with Catcher John Vandenberg Rogo was out but so was Vandenberg it looked like he might even knocked out as for a few seconds as he layed there montionless. Not to forget the effort by B.J. LaMura with a perfect 8th inning.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) How's Lubs feeling? Shoulder's gotta hurt. He says sometimes it kills him other times it isn't too bad. But he has to be hurting
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) Should we continue to look for Pollok in the closer's role for the rest of the season? It is bullpen by committee who can throw strikes and do well will get the important roles. Tonight Luby threw 2 scoreless innings
  9. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) He's nearly a 20/20 guy at Birmingham (18 HR, 20 SB), has a good OBP, a good BB/K ratio, good HR and gap power, and a decent average in a pitchers park. I'd like to see what he could do in a hitter's park like Comiskey. After tonight he is a 20/20 guy with 20 HR 20 SB
  10. Barons 10 Mississippi 5 W- Honel (4-6) L- Kent Sv- Lubisich (1) Kris Honel had a solid outing and kept the Barons in the game. Chris Young with the Barons down 3-2 drilled a 2-0 fastball way out to left center to make it 5-3 Barons. Jerry Owens with 2 more hits now has a 17 game streak 28 out 29. Owens also stole his 32nd base and Rogo added his 19th bag. Antoin Gray crushed a fastball from 2005 Braves 1st round pick Joey Devine for a long homerun. Every Baron had a hit in the 15 hit attack. Nik Lubisich came in with bases loaded 0 out got of the inning with only minimal damage and pitched a 1-2-3 9th for his 1st save.
  11. Barons 3 Mississippi 0 W-Haigwood L-White Sv-Reynoso Haigwood continued his great pitching this year. He had a knee buckling curve he used to get looking K's. Also twisted up left hander Mike Rosamond a couple of times and really looked good outhere tonight often ahead of the hitters and used his breaking pitches effectivly tonight. Not much offense Sean White was wild the 1st 3 innings where he gave up a pair of runs on wild pitches and his own throwing error. Chris Young drilled his 19th a moon shot to left and Jerry Owens tripled on a deep drive to right center
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 05:43 AM) was Thompson up with the Braves earlier for some reason that name sounds very familiar. yup he was a 14 game winner last season for the Braves
  13. Mississippi 6 Barons 2 W-John Thompson L-Haeger (4-1) Charlie had control issues tonight he walked 7 batters his knucler is still a work in progress. Haeger still made pitches when they needed to be made getting 3 DP balls and getting 2 others that were mishandled by Pedro Lopez and Wally Rosa. One thing I liked about tonight was haeger never gave in throwing that Knucler in fastball situations and getting those ground balls. On offense Barons were shutdown by Atlanta Braves pitcher John Thompson. Rogo had a pair of triples tonight one off the RF wall and the other off the CF wall. Jerry Owens picked up a hit to raise his streak to 15 and 27 out 28.
  14. QUOTE(minorsfan @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Great Pics!!!! Tom, Were you at the game in Montgomery last night? What was the deal with the rain delay and tarp??? yeah that was a circus, The Umps had talked during the break in between the top and bottom of the 9th they decided to play. It was so bad that Isenia had to call time because he couldn't even and the umps couldn't even see him step out of the box!! so they had an argument over that which let the infield take a beating for a couple more minuets Kennedy the crew chief finally called for the tarp and it looked like the Biscuits grounds crew was struggling to get it on Razor had a heated conversation with it looked like the Montgomery GM there was a whole bunch of confusion over where the 2 runs would come off the board or what would happen Finally the Barons got the tarp on I left because I didn't see anyway that they could play again because the infield was nothing but mud. That was a wierd event
  15. Barons Pics Barons @ Huntsville 7/4/05 and Charlie Haeger
  16. I will always remeber the job he did during and after the 9/11 attacks. He was like the article said a calm soothing voice during a horrible time for the country. RIP
  17. Barons 3 Montgomery 2 W- Philips (7-3) L- Parker Sv- Pollok (6) Heath had that cutter working today after missing in the strike zone early Heath was hitting the outside corner with ease getting ground balls after ground ball. Heath made some good pitches when he needed to getting a huge DP off the Bat of Wes Bankston in the 5th with the Bases loaded. After a very strange 2 hour rain delay Dwyane Pollok got the final 2 outs for the save. Jerry Owens hit streak reaches 14 (27 out 28) with a double in the 1st. Chris Stewart Clubbed a long homerun to left to tie the game at 2-2 in the 9th Andy Gonzalez with 2 strikes layed down a Game winning Squeeze bunt to finish the rally. Chris Stewart also gunned out Johnny Rayburn who had not been caught all season long 28 for 28 until tonight. Barons end there reg season meetings with Montgomery with a 13-7 record against the Biscuits
  18. QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Then your brother does NOT know pitching, cause Seddon is the pitcher who shut Charlotte down on Monday, Rex got done earlier this week telling me how much he likes Seddon. Seddon is a pitcher that has to have his command working he isn't a flame thrower so he has to get ahead he gets in trouble when he walks guys and misses high in the strike zone. Like Rex said he had both an outing that he would like to forget and a outing that he dominated the Barons. If he can change speeds work the corners he will have a great game.
  19. Barons 7 Montgomery 5 W- Tracey (12-5) L- Flinn (3-6) Sv- Pollok Tracey had a very good outing tonight only made one mistake to Neuberger a high sinker that was hit just over the short LF Porch. Sean picked up on a trend of Montgomery hitters looking 1st pitch Fastball until he picked that up he gave up some hits after he threw lots of first pitch sinkers and getting pops and grounders. Chris Stewart had a whale of a game 3-4 3 RBI and an absolute bomb for to LCF that went on to the railroad tracks behind the stadium for an estimated 450 ft blast. Chris also laid down a perfect squeeze bunt. Jerry Owens hit streak reaches 14 and had a homerun taken away by a fan in the 2nd as the fan touched a ball before it could clear the wall. Bullpen struggled mightly tonight other than the return of Luby who bailed Wasserman out of 1st and 3rd jam with a 6-4-3 Dp and got the 1st out in the 9th. And somehow Pollok got out of a bases loaded 1 out jam in the 9th with a popup and sharp ground out
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) Any change in Honel's velocity tonight Tom? Nope still low 90's just couldn't command his secondary pitches tonight
