QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) Where has BHam been lately? Hey guys my dad suffered a massive Heart Attack in Arizona on August 18th. I am still out in Arizona dad past away Friday Morning at 6:15 the Funeral because of the Labor Day holiday will be Thursday and I most likely will leave Saturday Morning. It will tough leaving my family out here in Phoenix during this time but life will go on and everything happens for a reason so I will have to move on. I won't be on for a week at the soonest.

Barons 9 Carolina 4 W- Philips (9-4) L-Aguilar (4-2) Barons finally figured out the slow breaking ball and hit it hard. Chris Young with a huge day with the Barons down 4-2 in the 5th and JO at first CY doubled off the wall in Left field and JO came all the way around to score then some small ball that has been a staple of Barons baseball since Wally Backman when Rogo gave up his AB by grounding to 2nd sending Young to 3rd Darren Blakely followed with a sac fly. The Barons scored 5 in the 6th the big blow came on a CY 2 run triple. Jerry Owens had a 3-5 game. Heath Phillips got better as the game went along the first few innings Heath left everything high in the zone and got hit hard. Jeremy Hermida launched a 2 run blast off the score board in the 1st but went 0-4 afterwords and was 1-15 HR 4K's and DP.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:34 PM) i still have to believe though that his status as a prospect is quite a ways behind anderson and young....right? Yep I mean Chris Young is putting up out of this world numbers in the Met. The season Chris has had is the best Power Speed season since Mike Cameron in 1996.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) Bham 10 straight wins I believe. Right on longest streak since 1990 I believe I will have to ask Rex for sure

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) Bham, i never get to see these guys except what was on in spring training. but i know some scouts still say sweeney will be a stud even without the power there this year. im not really a stats guy so i hate to simply look at numbers, but im not a tools guy either. but since i can see stats and only stats, i was wondering if you can gimme a run down of what if anything you think will make this kid a solid big leaguer. i know hes only 20 and second youngest in AA blah blah blah, but as much as i hate solely lookin at stats, is just too hard for me to ignore a .355 slugging percentage. please tell me something good, thanks! Well right now he still has a excellent swing and a tremendous RF with a cannon for an arm. Sweeney stats this year are off because of 1st season at a huge pitchers park and the wrist problem that he will need to get fixed right now he can't hit pitches on the inner half because of it and LH hitters love the ball down an in. The pitchers have realized this and been jaming him. After every swing on an inside pitch he barely walk to 1st because the pain is so bad

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) Whats the story on Sweeney's injury? Ryan has not seen a doctor yet he has some damage from an injury in June he has been trying to play through this HBP was lower on the hand. He will need Off season surgery most likely for the earlier damage.

Chris Young Wins BC Powder Hitter of the Week
BHAMBARONS replied to Heads22's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Any shot Young wins MVP? I dont follow other teams minor league players enough to know what kind of number others put up, so i apologize if that is a ridiculous question I think Chris is in the top 5 from what I hear from other managers CY will make it to the final 5 in voting These are the other 5 this I am guessing on: Jeremy Hermida Carolina (Flordia) Brandon Sing West Tennessee (Flubs) Joel Guzman Jacksonville (LAD) Dan Uggla Tennessee (Arizona) I don't think Delmon will win it because he left the 1st of July and his team is way under .500 and a 4th place team -
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) I wonder if he'll ever be able to start at the ML level. He proved tonight that he can throw his heat for at least 3 innings, and he's still very young. If he could start down the road, he'd help make the Sox rotation even more formidable. I know the Sox see him as their future closer and that he's had trouble in starting roles in the minors, but other prospects whose organizations viewed them as closers have become starters after having problems in starting roles. Jenks started out in the Angels system as a starter but I doubt he will ever start again

Barons 2 Carolina 1 W- Pollok L- Resop I will start with the Tracey pitching tonight he was incredible keeping the ball down having his best control of the year walking 1 on a 3-2 borderline pitch. Trace had Flordia #1 Jeremy Hermida tied up all night getting him on pitches in the 5th in the series Hermida is 0-10 4K's. Now the walkoff Darren Blakely took a 1-2 pitch from Major Leaguer Chris Resop and drove it to wall in RCF bringing in Fields who patiently drew a walk. Pollok pitched a very effective 2 innings of relief of Tracey.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Important thing to note on Tracey tonight: He allowed 1 flyball in his first 6 innings. According to the logs the hits were either line drives or ground balls. He's a sinkerballer and needs to stay with that. He did get 2 flyouts in his last inning the 7th, which could be attributed to fatigue. Yes he had the sinker working. He had Hermida tied up like a preztel and the 1st flyout was a weak one to lead off the game and the last two were routine plays

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) According to the log Sweeney got HBP in his 2nd plate appearance, stayed to run the bases (stayed at 1st anyway) and was taken out the next half inning. Important thing to note on Tracey tonight: He allowed 1 flyball in his first 6 innings. According to the logs the hits were either line drives or ground balls. He's a sinkerballer and needs to stay with that. He did get 2 flyouts in his last inning the 7th, which could be attributed to fatigue. He finshed the inning but had to come out in the top of 4th. Rogo finshed the game as the RF.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) Sweeney only got one plate appearence, then was pulled. Wonder why? Hit in the wrist more x-rays to come something reveled was some damage from an HBP in June that will require surgery. Hopefully it will be off season surgery

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Cesar Carrillo has really started off his pro-career with a bang. He pitched about 20 innings at A-Ball Lake Elsinore, struck out 20 with a 2.79 ERA. He's now at AA Mobile, and in about 25 innings, has struck out 27 with a 2.92 ERA. Looking real good so far... Barons will see Carrilo this weekend

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) Great Pics. In your Rickwood sequence, there was an elderly gentleman on the field in a wheelchair. I am assuming this was an old ballplayer. Do you have any idea who that was? Yes- I had him sign my ticket stub it says John Mattews I do remeber him saying he was Satchel Page's favorite Catcher.

Barons 1 Carolina 0 W-Honel (5-6) L- Lockwood (2-6) Sv-Pollok (7) Kris Honel was on top of his game tonight best he has been all season long His stuff had serious bite to it and had some great hitters looking silly tonight including Flordia #7 Prospect Robert Andino K'd 2 times and #1 Jermey Hermida twice. Pollok came on threw some nasty sliders to finish the game. Barons scored only run on Stewart Bunt single with Sweeney at 3rd. Barons 5 Carolina 4 W-LaMura L- Torres (0-1) Sv- Reynoso (6) A good comeback win after Luby left in the 4th down 3-0 Barons went to work and got a 2 run Fields homer and with 1st and 3rd 2 gone in the 5th Rogo drilled a ball into the RCF gap that was dropped by Reggie Abercrombie allowing both runs to score and tie the game at 4 and sent Rogo to 3rd the next pitch sailed to the backstop and the Barons took the lead for good. Reynoso struggled in the 7th walking the bases loaded with 2 out then got a ground out to end the game. Abercrombie had the day to forget going 0-6 4K's and the second game was 0-3 grounded into a inning ending DP struck out with bases loaded 2 outs got into a shouting match with 1B ump Jeff Latter and commited a 2 run 3 Base error.

Barons 8 Huntsville 2 W- Haigwood (3-1) L- Sarfate (9-9) Barons struck Early in this game jumping to a 7-0 lead after 2 then Haigwood kept placing 0's on the socreboard as his curve ball was working very well tonight getting 9 K's mostly on that filthy curve. Darren Blakely went 3-4 Homer short of the cycle and drove in 4 more runs 8 in the last 2 games. Chris Young after being walked 4 times yesterday was hit twice in today's game and in a very wierd and contested play was called out for not touching 3rd by the homeplate umpire Jeff Latter I was watching the play the whole way and seen Chris touch 3rd but oh well. Dennis Sarfate suffered an injured elbow in this game after really laboring on the mound. Barons finish season series against Huntsville at 9-2. Barons begin a week that will have 10 games in it 4 double headers one tomorrow then back-to-back-to back DH's next weekend

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) BHAMBARONS, do you attend every Barons home game? Yep and a few road games as well.
-
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) Tom, correct me if I am wrong, but all I saw tonight was a 73-74mph fastball and a knuckleball around 60-63. You are right, Rex did you notice all of the thrown helmets after the Huntsville AB's that was a frusterated team.

Haeger in the 2nd inning
