Jacksonville 9 Barons 3 W-Alervez L- Tracey Niether starter did well today in the blistering heat 105 heat index. Tracey made some fundmental mistakes today which made the homeruns worse the first one came after a mishandled groundball where for some reason he threw to the plate instead of 1st with 2 outs and plenty of time this allowed a run to score 2 batters later Andy LaRoche drilled a moster 3 run shot to RF. The second homer the batter before Tracey walked the number 9 hitter a backup catcher with 2 outs and the next batter Delwyn Young drilled a 3 run shot. Wally Rosa had 2 straight hits off Chad Billingsly who struggled as well threw almost 100 pitches in just 4 innings including a 14 or 15 pitch AB to Pedro Lopez who drew a walk after being 0-2 in the count. Jerry Owens hit streak reaches 11

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Man you must see really well if you can catch all that from Birmingham to Jacksonville. ;-) I should have wrote that a little better I kind of threw it together at the last second And English has never been one of my strong suits

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) What was Honel's velocity at tonight BHAM, and how was the fastball/curve looking? Hit 91 tonight several times had several great looking curve's thrown tonight, one to get James Loney in the 2nd a very gutsy pitch to a powerful leadoff hitter but that pitch showed me Honel was going to have a good outing because he had enough confidence to throw that pitch in that count and to believe he could throw it for a strike.

Jacksonville 2 Barons 1 W-Oreduff L-Meaux Sv- Broxton A very hard loss tonight considering the Barons out hit the Suns 9-5 Jacksonville also committed 3 errors a runner caught stealing and balked in a run still wins 2-1. Big plays in the game a dropped throw by Chris Stewart that allowed the winning run to score and a baserunning mistake by Stewart in the 9th which got him picked off at 3rd was huge. 2 hits today by Garcia, Blakely they also struck out twice as well. Jerry Owens stole 2 bags in a row. Kris Honel pitched very well giving up a 319 ft wind aided homerun.

Chris Brennan Local kid scouted at the open tryout signed by big Dave Wilder. I didn't think much of him when I seen him but from the looks of it he has turned it around.

Barons 3 Jacksonville 2 W- Haigwood (1-0) L-Hull (3-3) Sv-Reynoso (6) Some great pitching tonight from Haigwood had a good fastball to complement a daziling curve, Dan had some good hitters looking bad tonight most noticeably Joel Guzman who was 0-3 with 3 K's twice swinging also got Andy LaRoche and Russell Martin twice. Words can't describe how well he pitched tonight that is a power lineup held to 5 hits in 7 against him with 8 K's. Pedro Lopez led the offense with a 3-4 including a long homerun to left. Jerry Owens also had 2 hits to extend his streak to 10 games. Even the pinch hitter Charlie Haeger also had a single in the game. Kris Honel tomorrow night in Jacksonville, Fla

Barons 9 Chattanooga 8 (10) W- Oritz (2-0) L- Shaffer (1-5) Sv- Reynoso (5) This team is very resilient after Ortiz served up a 2 out 2 strike game tying 3 run Bomb, the Barons inning started with a dreaded leadoff walk, Gray followed with a bunt and Shaffer threw high to 2nd and Stewart was safe, Ortiz bunted back to the mound Shaffer threw out Stewart at 3rd and a throw to an uncovered 1st base allowed Gray and , Jerry Owens lined a shot to RF Rick Asadorian who made a sweet grab Gray misread the ball and had to stay at 3rd. Finally the wierdest play yet with 2 outs Lopez layed down a bunt Shaffer had it threw it high and off-line for his 2nd error and the 5th error made by Lookout pitchers in 2 games. Reynoso got a line drive comebacker that he snared and then a single to Junior Ruiz who kept them in the game with a great takeout slide of Gray on the grounder hit by D'Angelo Jimenez and kevin Howards grounder ended it. Barons now lead the Minors in Road Wins with 33. Rogo 2 hits and 2 hits for Josh Fields as well

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) I guess Haeger is the shizz then. Swung the bat well today a sharp grounder and Sac bunt also grounded out Friday and yesterday as well. He is used as the "pinch hitter" our best hitting pitcher and bats late in the game.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) Apparently the Barons are too cool for the DH. I wish that was the case we had no players available to DH with Young, Gonzalez and Garcia hurt. Also when Reynoso came in that was our last pitcher as well.

Couple Years ago around my area a guy who killed himself also kidnapped his 2 kids had them in the Van as well he went acrossed the median crashed into a 18 wheeler who then locked up the brakes and a car behind it with a family headed to 6 flags in Atlanta slammed into the truck the car lodged under the truck and beheaded both the mother and the father who was the driver. So in the accident 2 kids were killed and another family was left parentless. Cowards like that don't get any sympathy from me.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:34 PM) After demonstrating his dominance in the futures game Young has had a few days off to rest his off the charts abilities. Actually he is hurt, can barely walk not availble for even pinch running spots. It looks like a pulled muscle in his side

Barons 7 Chattanooga 5 (10) W-Ortiz (1-0) L- Shaffer Now that is an Instant classic what a game. Meaux came in the 8th with a one run lead gave up a bloop single to Junior Ruiz then a D'Angelo Jimenez single came back off the carpet to get Steve Smitherman who had a rotten game (Explain later) to Strike out 3-2 pitch A Ryan Hanningan walk loaded up the bases for Jeff Bannon who drove an 0-2 fastball into left for a 2 run single the pitch was a good idea but missed location. Meaux then recorded outs from Brian Peterson and Rick Assadorian. The Barons near defeat came up fighting a 2 out 0-2 single by Jerry Owens gave the Barons a chance Pedro Lopez then drilled a pitch to deep left Smitherman took a horrible route and the ball went off the wall for an RBI double. The Barons in the 10th got a one out single by Ryan Sweeney and a 2 out homer by Chris Stewart. The game turned ugly on the next pitch as Gray was hit and Shaffer the pitcher was tossed. Ortiz was lights out in the 9th and 10th. With no players on the bench and a short bullpen Razor did some great managing when the players wante to respond to the Gray hit Razor pleaded with them to get back to the bench, they listened and everything calmed down. With no bench and Garcia leaving the game both Haigwood, Ortiz batted in the late innings. I hope help from the soxs is coming soon.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Tom, what are your thoughts on Delmon? Well his a 5 tool player will be a much better player than his brother mostly because of his speed and defense has a cannon in RF. Still struggles with a good breaking pitch but he is only 19. Has a sweet swing can hit the ball out of any park either way.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) Careful what you wish for guys, we may end up with Josh Shafer. Nooooooooooooo

QUOTE(minorsfan @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) What's up with the Barons roster. Now with Gonzalez hurt and out for ??? and sending Haggerty to Winston-Salem (huh) they have 4 infielders. I guess you gotta hope no one gets hurt, so much for a utility guy. Have you heard of any moves? Thanks. This is very ironic, the very day a backup infielder is sent down your starter gets hurt so now our starter (Gray) is normally a 3B and his Defense at 2nd is not good. I wonder when the Sox's activate The Duke where will Jenks go to Charlotte already has 30+ players on it we have 21. We need a closer Pollok is a good 7th 8th guy but has really struggled in the closers role.

Fellow inmates just love child abusers much less kids that are mentaly handicaped. I have a brother that is just like the kid here. If someone did that to him who knows what I would have done.

Chattanooga 6 Barons 4 W-Schmidt L- Pollok A very difficult game the Barons Bullpen entrusted to get 9 outs couldn't do it. Josh Fields made a huge error but still a 1-1 pitch single to Assadorian who was 0-2 2K's against Tracey then 1-2 pitch homer to a weak hitting Bryan Anderson. Barons offense continues to hit very well the team AVG has to be close to the League Lead. The Fields error doesn't bother me as much as the homer because Josh made a good pick to even get the ball then rushed his throw. Sweeney power is getting more and more evident each game today he slammed a ball off the RF wall for a double. Blakely slammed a ball into into orbit tonight at least 450 to RF.

In Bham, March 15th I believe someone left an infant in a donation bin at a local Thrift Store.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) That would have to be contingent on Boston getting another starter. I can't really see the Pads giving up on Nevin. Who do they have in the wings? Paul McAnulty- 7th overall prospect good power hitter, hits for AVG as well and solid with the glove as well. Won the SL homerun Derby today as well.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) Those aren't exactly the best contact hitters though. I think Guzman only trails Fields by 1 for the SL lead in K's. Rogo's in the 70s and Young is in the 60's. I should have mentioned that Johnson had a 98 Fastball and a Nasty slider today he would have got almost any hitter tonight I belive he K'd all 5 hitters he seen tonight and got the win.
-
The Barons represented themselves very well. Rogo had a 2 run Bomb to go with a sac fly for 3 RBI made some great defensive plays as well. Stewart had an triple off the left field wall (Only reason why it was a triple was the North was protecting a no-no through 7 and the left fielder Shanks crashed into the wall and by the time Gwynn picked it Stewart had an easy 3). Reynoso pitched well.
-
Rogo strikes out against Jason Johnson who also did this in the 2nd D. Young Strikes out swinging C. Rogowski Strikes out swinging J. Guzman Strikes out swinging
