Barons 9 Montgomery 5 W-Philips L-Cromer Barons attacked early and often today, Josh Fields delivered a pair of hard smash doubles today one 407 feet away the other down the line in LF. Chris Young smashed HR #17 which tied him for an inning with Delmon Young. Delmon returned the favor with a 445ft blast to center also had a homer taken away by an outstanding leaping catch by Darren Blakely. Casey was hitting missles tonight 2 in a row and surprised everyone in the yard including me by laying a bunt down for a single. Great pitching tonight from Pollok throwing first pitch strikes struck out the side in the 8th in just 11 pitches Fastball from Pollok was 94 on the gun with a hard slider. Meaux in the 9th gave up two bloop hits almost had the battle of the season in the 9th with 2 on 2 out Meuax had a 3-2 count against Mike Curry with Delmon Young the tying run waiting on deck and Jenks ready to face him, But the plate umpire ended it all with a high strike 3 called to Curry to end the game and leave the Jenks- Young Battle for later

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) But they're probably thinking they'd rather Spidale play every day in W-S than just be a backup to Sweeney/Young/Owens. Looking at it that way it makes a little more sense. And here is Daigle's big opportunity, he may not ever get another one. The more I think about the more I agree. I am thinking Blakely might be moved to make room for Spidale seeing Spidale is a lot younger and still a somewhat prospect Blakely will turn 28 soon.

Stats right from my Computer score book might be a little hard to read. Hope you enjoy.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) I'm wondering too about Spidale. Maybe they firgure he'll actually get playing time there. The Spidale move makes no sense to me at all. If they had to move Spy then it should have been to Birmingham demote Gray who isn't ready for this level and bench warms. That also would allow Owens, Young and Sweeney to get a night off if they need it or in a massive slump without the offense taking a huge hit.

That's 2 mistakes made by Birmingham Jury's this week. First the Cop killer now this. The people on this jury must be complete idiots, Trying to say he had no idea the him and his company were making a lot of extra money. Also all 15 Executives are all lying and the Government is out to get him wow that is all I have heard in the last 7 months like Rex I grew tired off all the coverage of this loser

I am stunned at the Grounds crew in NC calling this game a little before 12:00 saying wet grounds no tarp was on the field this is the second time the grounds crew have done this to the Barons.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Tom, it is actually 340 down the lines, 385 to the gaps and 405 to CF. But the kicker is that the ball just does not carry there for some reason. Many well hit balls die in deep CF there, that would be out at most other minor league parks, hence the lopsided HR numbers. The Met has also almost always produced a full run differential in team ERA from home to road, and sometimes more. I wasn't sure if the 8ft wall was included or not so I decided to error on the side of caution. Thanks for clearing that up Rex

Barons 16 Carolina 4 W- Haeger (2-0) L- Johnson (7-4) Barons hammered another top rated prospect Johnson to the tune of 10 Runs 13 Hits in 3 1/3. 3 hit games for Owens, Rogo, Young, Gray. 2 hit games for Blakely and Aceves. Multi RBI games for Aceves (2), Owens (2), Rogo (3) and Blakely (4). Every Baron had a hit including subs Cory Haggerty, Andy Gonzalez. Jerry Owens also had 2 steals in the game. Charlie Haeger pitched a great ball game 7 innings 1 Run allowed walked only 1 K'd 5. Also showed a decent move to first picking of speedster Eric Reed. B.J. LaMura continues to show no clue as to pitching with a 16-1 and walking hitters falling behind hitters. Barons tonight collects season high hits (21) Runs (16)

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) This pitchers park thing limiting his power is such horses***, and I'm sick of hearing it. On Sweeney you are right on. But the Met does sap a lot of power hitter with park being in a bowl and '347 down the lines '392 to the allies and '414 to Center. I never forget what the Hurt had to say about that place after playing an exhibition game in 03 " Take a couple sticks of dynamite and light it up". Barons have hit 64 bombs only 18 at the Met.

QUOTE(BrianAndersonFan @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) I was at the game that day. I didn't know Ria was still upset over that. Yes she does it is very disapointing to know every game she has the plate that she will try her best to make Barons lose.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 07:22 AM) Totally agree. He's just 20, I would like to see him stay there and part of next year too. He has great talent and just needs to settle in and get experience. If he comes on, he could be a major league regular in 2007. Totally agree I think the end of this season and first half of next season he could go on a tear. He really turned it on in the 2nd half last season.
-
QUOTE(BrianAndersonFan @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:17 AM) What happened in April? There was a ball hit off the wall in RF, Ria called it a Homerun Razor Shines called her out and she has been holding a grudge ever since.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) He started for the Marlins and looked pretty good throwing something like 5/1/3 innings while picking up his first major league victory. I have no idea if he's much of a prospect or not. 4th I think he is in the top 5. I was sechduled to see him twice against the Barons but the first time rain washed it out then he was promted.
-
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:03 PM) who is Scott Olson? LHP, I don't know much about him other than he was sechduled against Start against the Barons Sat night

Barons 5 Carolina 2 W- Tracey (8-3) L- Brazardo (5-5) Sv-Jenks (17) A very well played ballgame, everything done well from a key pickoff to outstanding defense, good pitching, Suicide Squeeze Bunt timely hitting, power hitting and stolen bases. Tracey pitched very well with a very worn out pen behind him only 4 relievers in the pen all have thrown at least one inning since Friday night hopefully the Sox's will give the Barons some relief help soon. Tracey goes into the 7th Meaux came in was great and Bobby in the 9th was almost impossible to hit of in the 9th. Chris Young hit 2 towering homers and ties him for the lead in the SL with 16 with Delmon Young. Pedro Lopez hits first with the Barons. Also Rogo had a nice 3 hit game and multiple hit games for Chris Stewart and Ryan Sweeney.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) Tom, how is Sweeney looking these days, it appears he's back on track? How should we react to him showing no HR power? Thanks. He been hitting tons of line drives it's a different stroke then he had last couple weeks he had a little bit of an upper cut but these last few games he has gone back to the line drive swing. Hit a double off the RF wall today so hopefully that is something to come. I am concerned about the lack of power but I have this feeling he is ready to explode soon he looks a lot more comfortable at the dish. It looked like he had been trying to hard to homer but now he is back to hitting line drives which is really the only way to hit one out @ the Met. Hope this helps

Scott Olson made major league debut last night. Olson was sechduled to pitch Sat vs the Barons but dominated the D-rays 7K's in 5.2 IP

Carolina 3 Barons 2 W-Aguilar L Honel Sv-Resop Kris Honel pitched a wail of a ball game tonight. Two bad pitches in the 4th that were hit out of the park. Reynoso gave up the 3rd Honel run when he hit a batter then gave up a line drive single in the 7th. Kris should hold his head high tonight. Chris Young had a 3 hit night and his 14th homeun on the season this kid has the chance to be special player loads of talent. Sweeney also had a pair of hits. Resop a outstanding young closer for the Marlins mowed the barons down in the 9th Strikeing out Fields Aceves swinging.

QUOTE(mannyfast @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Tom... really appreciate these updates... especially when the Barons are out of town. I wish you worked for the Bham Post Herald! The Post Herald is really bad on updates. I am glad we don't have the women umpire this series she tried real hard to hand the game to Chattanooga yesterday all of this over a incident in April.

I see Danny Sandoval whooped on his old orginization. Homered off Smith to win the game for Scranton. Went 6-7 3 2B HR and 2 RBI in the DH

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) A) Jenks is a god damn mental case. And he's always hurt. Don't get too jacked up B) I'm pretty sure his Ks per 9 are pretty crappy if that story is right lol i have to stop breaking down things with capital letters 11.21 K/9
