Montgomery 6 Barons 1 W- Shields L- Honel Kris had a hard time with command tonight mostly missing high. The Bullpen with 3 pitchers used was great BJ had a little struggle but at least it was because they were hitting him and not with command so he was able to get out of his own jams because he didn't walk people to go along with the hits. Pollok had a great 1-2-3 inning and so did Paulino Reynoso. Jerry Owens hit streak continues and Rogo was punishing the ball all night with a long homerun and one drilled to the wall in RF and one smoked off the pitcher. Andy Gonzalez had a pair of doubles and Ryan Sweeney had a 2 hit game and missed his first homer by 3 inches.

A couple of things I want to add First off I don't believe she is a slut or deserved what she got (which is most likely death). But next I do agree there is far to much media coverage on this kids go missing by the day but do not bring out this kind of attention. I wanted to say those things because I feel Natalee gets a bad wrap she made one mistake we all make mistakes. And that the media is the one to blame for the over coverage of this.

Mississippi 2 Barons 0 W-Smith (9-1) L- Haigwood (2-1) What a pitching performance tonight Chuck James is the real deal and will be an Atlanta Brave soon. James is by far and away the best pitching prospect in the SL this year with a big time breaking ball that made a lot of our good hitters look horrible. Right with him pitch for pitch was Haigwood who had a dominting breaking pitch as well it was very unfortunate that his only run was given up on a Antoin Gray Error who the inning before failed to drive in a run from third with one out. Jerry Owens had an awsome game 3-4 and was robbed of an RBI single on a great diving catch by Onil Joseph.

Barons 8 Mississippi 6 W- Haeger (4-0) L- White (3-1) A game that featured tons of walks. Haeger's Knucler was on most of the game as Mississippi hitters could only hit weak grounders. Hitting wise Casey Rogowski led the attack with 3 hits and 2 RBI, Jerry Owens picked up a pair of hits to raise his SL leading total to 127. Andy Gonzalez homered in the 7th. Barons pen struggled in this game giving up 3 runs in 3 innings. Haigwood vs Chuck James tomorrow

Mississppi 10 Barons 3 W-O'Conner L- Phillips Heath had command trouble not meaning falling behind hitters but trouble locating in the strike zone left to many pitches high in the zone. B.J. LaMura came in gave up a bases loaded triple and followed that up with a double before calming down and threw 2 solid innings with 4 looking strike outs. On offense Darren Blakely had a 2 hit game, Chris Stewart, Jerry Owens also had 2 hit games. Chris Young hit his 33rd Double tonight only 6 off Maggs record. Charlie Haeger against Sean White Tomorrow good pitching matchup

Chattanooga 8 Barons 2 W-Ben Webber L- Tracey (11-5) Tracey hit a bad strech in the 5th prior to that he pitched a very goog game. Jerry Owens had 3 hits and 2 stolen bases Owens has hit in 21 out of his last 22 games now hitting .330 and leads the SL in hits at the toughest hitting park in all the minors. Also nice pitching from guys who were really struggling B.J. LaMura and Paulino Reynoso.

QUOTE(SouthSide2004 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) Good, Ryan Meaux sucks. He had no chance in this organization with the amount of lefties we have here. You are right about him not having a chance in this organization but no he does not suck. Good luck Ryan

QUOTE(minorsfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) It looks like the White Sox received veteran switch hitting infielder Geoff Blum from San Diego for Birmingham reliever Ryan Meaux. Good Luck to Ryan, he did a great job for the Barons. And hopefully Blum will help the Sox. Yes it is true he has been assigned to divison rival Mobile, Ryan left for Mobile this afternoon. Good luck to Ryan you were a class act.

Barons 5 Chattanooga 1 W- Honel (3-5) L- Schmidt (3-5) Wow Kris was outstanding tonight had good breaking ball tonight in the low 90 through his whole 7 innings of work. Allowed only 5 hits tonight walking 3 and Strikeing out 3. In Kris last 3 starts he has allowed only 12 hits. On offense Chris Stewart hit a 2 out Grandslam that turned a 1-0 defecit into a 4-1 lead. That was Chris 4th homerun at Bell South Park this season. Chris Young looks better he had a long double and barely missed another.

Yesterday in the SL, Nick Ungs for Carolina (Marlins) pitched a no hitter against the league's best hitting team in West Tennessee (Flubs).

Barons 9 Chattanooga 1 W- Haigwood (2-0) L- Dumtrait (3-11) A very good pitching effort by Haigwood, had a little struggle in the 4th after he sat on the bench for a long time with the Barons puting a crooked number on the score board. He had a good looking fastball and plus curve going last night. At the plate Jerry Owens continued his tear he has been on 2-6 again. I can tell just be seeing Fields lately that he is turning it around he is laying off that outside breaking pitch for walks and hitting to RF and up the middle more as well. Ryan Sweeney had a pair of base hits as well today. And finally Chris Stewart homered off big leaguer Ben Webber who was on Rehab.

Barons 9 Montgomery 8 (10) W- Reynoso L- Smith Barons win a wild extra inning game with a 3 run walk off homer in the tenth from Darren Blakely who drilled a Fastball out to Right Center this came one pitch after a costly error by Elliot Johnson who also was 0-6 4K's and before that Cameron Smith walked Rogo and Fields on 9 pitches. The top of the 10th featured a balk by Paulino Reynoso I still have no idea what he did wrong that brought in 1 run then a 2 run double by Shawn Riggins who was thrown out at 3rd the biscuits had a 3 run lead heading into the bottom of the 10th. In between innings Razor was ejected by home plate umpire Jason Bradley. Rogo had a 2 run single in the 7th and Ryan Sweeney had a 2 run single in the 6th. In the series Ryan was 7-13 with 4 RBI. In the last 2 game Blakely was 5-7 2 HR 5RBI. Haeger had his knucler working most of the game but picks up a no decision.

QUOTE(mannyfast @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 07:22 AM) Tom, What are your thoughts on all the Barons baserunning blunders this year? Coaching? Bad luck? or just plain terrible base running? I can't believe all of the different ways I've seen Barons picked off at the bases this year. well yesterday was bad luck Montgomery took some bold chances on the diamond because if they didn't get an out the tying run would have came up. Other than that we have some young team mistakes out on the bases hopefully they will learn from there mistakes.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Looks like they have a couple of new signs there this year........ Woodward Iron and the Sporting Goods signs are new, are they not? Yes they are Rex

Montgomery 6 Barons 5 W-Peguro L- Phillips Sv- Smith The Rickwood classic the best minor league baseball game all season bar none. In this game Darren Blakely went 3-3 all extra base hits. Phillips start wasn't all the horrible he got some bad breaks with a couple bloop doubles that were called fair by less than 2 inches a ground ball that superballed over Fields head and a bunt single only two of his 6 hits were hard hit balls and out of 78 pitches thrown 64 were strikes and walked no one. Rogo had a pair of hard hit singles and Josh Fields hit a ringing double off the LF Wall for a double. Jerry Owens also had a pair of hits a walk and stolen base. While the Barons hit starter Peguro very well had no luck against the bullpen combination of Rudy Lugo, Josh Parker and Cameron Smith.

Barons 6 Montgomery 0 W- Tracey (11-4) L- Flinn (3-4) One heck of a pitching performance by Tracey tonight he was in the groove the sinker was the best it has been all year his FB touched 94 very few hard hit balls only 2 that I can count of both of those where on sinkers that stayed up. Sean's 10 K's makes him the first barons pitcher to do that feat this year. Good hitting today as well Ryan Sweeney came within a homer of the cycle still 3-4 RBI 2 runs scored. Josh Fields who had walked twice and been hit by pitch hit a long homerun in 7th.

Here is one @ Rickwood today

Barons 11 Huntsville 5 W-Honel L-Sarfate Sv- Meaux Hitting shoes were on in this game newcomer Tommy Nicholson had 3 hits and 3 Driven in on base 4 times. Nicholson also made a huge defensive stop with bases loaded 2 outs in the 7th where he dove blocked the ball and threw from RF to nail Brad Nelson and hold the lead for Honel. Rogo had a pair of doubles one to LF gap the other down the RF line he also just missed a 3rd double on a fine running catch in the gap. Jerry Owens was 3-4 on base 4 times drove in a pair of runs the last on a bases loaded walk. Ryan Sweeney also had a pair of hits all Barons had great looking AB's today hitting the ball hard. Kris Honel was outstanding today going 6+ after the 1st his command was great and only 3 hits from the end of the 1st to when he departed in the 7th outstanding job.

Huntsville 5 Barons 3 (11) W-Evert L-Ortiz Barons hit well tonight just needed one big hit in the later innings. The bullpen struggled giving up runs in the 7th,9th,11th. Daniel Haigwood pitched well going into the 7th with the lead. 2 doubles for Rogo 2 hits for Fields as well. Antoin Gray had 3 hits in 4 at bats with a long homerun in the 7th. A strange incident when a fan came across the dugout and onto the field and attacked one of the Zooperstars.

Barons 6 Huntsville 4 W- Meaux L- Stamler A well played ballgame the Barons never give up out there down 4-0 the Barons didn't panic in the 5th back to back singles by Owens, Gonzo and a 3-0 pitch to Fields that he absolutly crushed to LF for a 3 run shot. Next inning with 2nd 3rd 2 outs Owens hit a little chopper and he hustled all the way to 1st and beat the throw to tie the game. In the 8th with 2nd 3rd 2 outs Andy Gonzalez drove a 2 run single to left center. Ryan Meaux out of the pen was lights out, Haeger outside of the 4th was outstanding. Owens, Gonzo, Lopez, Gray, Fields all had 2 hits. Josh also made some outstanding plays at the hot corner long throws great stabs all round great game for Josh.
-
Jacksonville 6 Barons 5 W- Hanarhan L- Phillips Sv- Broxton A game decided on the last play as Fields with 2 on hit and run drilled a ball down to 3rd where Andy LaRoche made a breath taking stab and strong off balance throw to barely beat Josh at 1st, If he was safe would have been tied or it would have went down the line and put the Barons on top. For the first time in awhile the bullpen was outstanding going 3 IP 2 H and 4K's. Sweeney had a 3-4 game, Wally Rosa had a pair of hits along with Casey Rogowski. Tydus Meadows for Jacksonville homered twice after homering yesterday he went 4-4 2HR 3 RBI 3 scored. Meadows had now homered 7 times against the barons staff and has .390 AVG
