I'd welcome your thoughts on those four major deals. Which ones are they in your mind? What makes you think we won or lost each? Analysis, please.

question about minors
I agree MSF. But the answer depends on how you look at your question. Triple A is full of Minor League vets and is by and large an older league. It does have some prospects, but often times those prospects either don't spend a lot of time in AAA or they are there because they are stuck behind someone else. AA is generally regarded as the prospect level. They say the hardest jump is from High Class A to AA, therefore those that produce at the AA level are generally highly regarded. Many of those do skip AAA altogether or as mentioned earlier, they only make a brief stop in Triple A because they are already deemed Major League ready.

Aaron Rowand
Actually Rowand played quite well last year after taking over for Lofton. He hit .292 with 7 HR and 27 RBI and 34 Runs in the 2 months and a week after Lofton left. Rowand had a bad month this year coming off an injury. He has been hot since coming back. He has hit .375 since coming back from Charlotte. Rowand has not been given a true enough look for anyone to say that he can't play everyday.

Who is the 5th Starter of our Future
Diaz stats in his starts since May 18. 2-4 3.09 ERA 64 IP 61 H 19 BB 47 K This excludes two so-so starts in the first two weeks of the season. I excluded them only because I felt it was more accurate to see what he has been doing since he has been in the rotation consistently. The other two starts didn't change his numbers drastically.
-
Who is the 5th Starter of our Future
It won't be Cooper. He is not on the 40-man and they aren't going to put him on it just for a couple of months. It will likely be someone from a trade, Danny Wright, Cotts or Diaz.

Who is the 5th Starter of our Future
Rauch got lit up again last night. I voted for Cotts in this poll, even though I am not convinced he is ready. He may be the most ready we have, however, barring a trade. His next start just may tell us a lot. He also would have to be added to the 40-man and I am not sure with how things are on it right now. Diaz is an interesting possibility. It might be time to see what he can do. Lastly, and I think the most likely possibility aside from a trade is Danny Wright. He pitched pretty well last night and should get one more start before a 5th starter is needed. In reality, all you need from your 5th starter is to keep you in the game and hope your offense can win it. If a guy can give you 5 or 6 quality innings and keep his team in the game, that's about all you can ask right now. If the Sox can win 2 or 3 of the five remaining starts of the #5 then they should be alright.

Ginter Up, Porzio Down
Cooper is 28 and will be 29 in August. Porzio is 30 and will be 31 in late August. Cooper is not on the Sox 40-man roster. Porzio is. Enough said.

Good Article on ESPN Insider
i don't believe his numbers warrant the love affair, LDF. Too many times a guy shows promise or has one or two good seasons and it is assumed he is a great player, even after he begins to come back to reality. Sure the potential is there with Weaver, but even his numbers with Detroit weren't that good. note: i am well aware that detroit was terrible, but i am not talking just wins and losses here.

Minor League Boxes for Saturday
All we know is he was hit by a pitch in a game the other night. He only had one AB plus the HBP, when every other starter had 5 or 6 AB's in the game, so the assumption is that he left the game after being hit by a pitch. That's all we know at this point.

Wright Closer at Charlotte?
My guess is that Munoz will get most of those opportunities.

Future Games 2003
Honel wasn't there. Ring was the Sox other representative, but wore a Mets hat after being traded right before the game. Cotts looked pretty average.

Big Frank Contract
Remember it was ARod's contract started his whole "hold out" over the DSC, so to Frank it really does matter what everyone else is making. Sometimes as you get older, you get wiser and have a better understanding of what is important. Perhaps Frank will begin to see that his legacy is with the White Sox and it would be more important for him to end his career there than leave for a couple extra million. Hopefully he can find a way to live on $6mil or so.

Trade Completed With Rangers
MSF, i just don't think that Everett was a necessary piece to the puzzle. Yes, he has contributed, but who is to say that someone else would not have? I may be wrong and if I am then great, that means the Sox are winning and he is contributing. I just think that Alomar was the only necessary move and that the Sox would have won without him. We'll never really know, but you gotta give me some credit for sticking to my guns on this one. I have had the same stance since the night of the trade and will keep it until I have to admit I was wrong, which, when the time is right, I will if necessary. And at least give me a little credit for the bag of balls, case of old style and vienna beef hot dogs line. That was pretty creative, don't ya think? LOL in discussing this with 2 of the people who in my opinion i respect a lot when it comes to prospects, i feel as i am in dangerous grounds. but still my opinion is with rex on this. the everett trade imo was really one that was not necessary. and like him until i see his contribuation out weigh the lose of the prospect. so what will be the tell tale sign, i don't know but i will say it so, at for me. maybe an obvious major contribuation(offense). btw rex i like the old style bit. i laugh so hard on that one point. Thanks LDF..... its nice to know that someone gets me!

Baseball Card Thread
Start collecting again. 1975 Topps set=700.00! Not sure of the set of minors. Does anyone remember the 1975 set that had the mini cards in the packs? They had mini sized versions of several players regular card inserted into sets. They were roughly 60% the size of the other cards. Also, anyone remember the cards on the bottom of the boxes of Hostess snack cakes?

Minor League Boxes for Friday
hard to say..... with Anderson down and Sweeney not playing the last couple of nights, who knows.... one would think they might push Nanita... I believe Purvis is going to move into the Winston rotation to get some regular work. Wylie could be in position to move up soon. He seems to be getting back to where he was and he is now off pitch counts. Threw 112 last night, coming one out from a complete game.

I must defer to MSF on this one. I really haven't followed the lower level affiliates in the past as much as I have this year. That's what MSF was always for. Problem is, he now has me following them on a nightly basis. I am enjoying it, but getting much less sleep. lol

Big Frank Contract
I don't see them moving Frank, but this scenario is possible.. Frank declines his $6m option thinking that the Sox will want to keep him and exercise the option at $8M in effect giving him a $2m raise. But if the Sox don't exercise the option, then Frank is now a free agent. The Sox might not exercise the option for many reasons, like Jason mentioned. I think with Frank bouncing back the way he has, the club and Frank will be amicable about everything and be up front with each other. The Sox could tell them that they can afford Frank at $6M but not $8M and leave it up to him. Lots of possible scenarios.

To add to that, keep in mind that Munoz just turned 21 five days ago... Jason, I also agree that Majewski still has a shot. The Sox were always on him about his weight last year, so I don't know if that has become a problem or if it has been more about Triple-A hitters.
