  1. The weather is a crap excuse. The reason their bats go south at times is because the core of the lineup-- Ordonez, Thomas, Lee, Konerko, are all terrible adjustment makers at the plate, and can all be pitched to basically the same way. It's been 3 years of this, and its been the same crap each year with the bats. Two of these guys have to go. I'd prefer it were Konerko and Lee, but realistically it's probably Ordonez and Lee. THere's a side of me that will be glad if the Sox dont contend this year. On one hand, we'll get guys like Reed up here to get them a taste of the majors, so they're better prepared to play next season, and on the other hand, with the Yankees getting old and Boston with 37 free agents at the end of the year, this would be a great offseason to reload and go at it next year, without there being much of any favorite in the AL along the lines of this year's NY and Boston teams.
  2. For the last time. This was your statement: "The fact remains that YOU are trying to re-define the traditional/original definition of what marriage is & has represented since the dawn of man. It was not created out of a civil context but rather a religious one. " Every link I posted in relation to that shows quite clearly that the instituion of marriage was ABSOLUTELY NOT created out of a religious context. Those same links show that YOU are the one trying to redefine "the traditional/original definition of what marriage is & has represented since the dawn of man." The rest of your statement is mind-bogglingly off-target, and pointless. I've washed my hands(again) of trying to have a debate with you. Good luck with your next set of polls.

  4. It also helps to take a step back from pompous idiocy to understand the point I was making by posting those links. I was not making any reference to anything other than the quote I attached, which was: The fact remains that YOU are trying to re-define the traditional/original definition of what marriage is & has represented since the dawn of man. It was not created out of a civil context but rather a religious one. The institution of marriage was NOT created out of a religious context, since "the dawn of man." I will also note that you didn't have anyhting to say about the links I posted to refute your ridiculous claim that pedophilia is rooted in child porn. Maybe you should review your posts before you make them.

  6. Good stat Cheat. I think people look for reasons to dislike Garland because he has the personality of a paper plate, and tends to have this disinterested look on his face all the time. Fact is, he could very easily wind up our best starter at the end of the year. It's scary, but his numbers aren't far off those of Buehrle's, or what we'll realistically get from Loaiza this season.
  7. This thread just proves my theory-- BrandoFan loves David Hasselhoff, er, I mean, Jose Valentin.
  8. I dunno, I think he could be a .300 hitter. Don't forget, he has the tools that made some scouts think he was the second coming of A-Rod only a couple of years ago.
  9. Whatsamatter with you people? Garland has had exactly two full seasons as a regular starter. He's not yet 25. He's improved his ERA, opponents' OBP, K/BB ratio, and WHIP in each season, and looks like he's on track to continue that trend this year. He's not fully matured yet, but going 8 innings, and only giving up 1 run despite walking 7 vs. the Yankees shows he's got some guts. He might be only a good #4 right this minute, but he should move into good #3 by the end of this season, and if he keeps improving at the rate he has, he'll be as good aas Buehrle either next season, or the season after that. You can't dictate when a person will "get it," or when their brain will catch up with their body. Just because Clemens got it right away, doesn't mean everyone else can. The list of excellent pitchers that weren't very good until their 4th or 5th seasons is very, very long.
  10. If Garland is not going to be a big strikeout pitcher--and he won't--then he needs to get that k/BB ration up closer to 2.00. Good control pitchers without huge strike out totals like Moyer, Maddux, etc. have ratios close to that 2.00 or higher. Although, neither Moyer nor Maddux got to that number until they were in the league 3-4 years. GArland seems to be getting better every season, so if he keep it up, he might really be something in the next 2-3 years.
  11. His pitching still scares me, but I love his enthusiasm on the mound. After every save, he's pumping his fist, slapping guys on the back, etc. The guy's competitive--he wants to win and everyone knows it. I think it's good for the Sox to see a guy act like that. Teams rally around guys like him. I hope he keeps this up.
  12. That's a myth. All of these guys close games without blazing fastballs: Foulke, Hoffman, Isringhausen, Guardado, Cordero, Borowski, Smoltz, Herges, Valverde, Rivera, Graves, Mesa.
  13. That figures, there wasn't another decent rib place within 10 miles of me. I was never a big fan of the Patio, but Carson's is still a good bet. Another place I thought of that had good ribs was the Red Barrel, on Archer and around Kostner or so. The place has a new name now, something like SZutukus, so I doubt they sell ribs anymore
  14. A place on Roosevelt Road in Berwyn called Giovanni's used to have the best ribs I ever had, but I know the ownership there has changed and I haven't been back there in awhile, so I don't know if they're still as good.
  15. Bingo! And people give me funny looks when I tell them I have no interest in having kids.....
  16. I think it's just a generalization. It's probably true more often than not, but that doesn't mean there aren't bunches of exceptions to the "rule."
  17. Anyone taking the bet that Valentin whiffs to end the inning?
  18. Mariners could not score with bases loaded and 1 out in the 8th. Twins still up 1-0 in the bottom of 8. Mariners are playing some White Sox-style baseball, I see.
  19. Mariners have bases loaded with 1 out in the 8th. Twins leading 1-0
  20. THrough 3 and 2/3, the Sox have one hit off the mighty Dan Cabrera. Bunch of putzes.
  21. What I still dont get about all this is, why the hell were they taking pictures?!? For the family photo album? Are they really that stupid?
  22. Buehrle and Oden-Neisse are pitching in the series, correct? Minnesota sucks against lefties.
  23. I got no problems with that, except that we seem to have a better replacement at SS than we do in the outfield. Jeremy Reed is nice and all, but he has zero big league at bats. Uribe wont hit .375 all year, but I'm more impressed by him doing it at the big level than by Reed doing it in AAA.
  24. I look at him still from a perspective of how he fits on the team as a whole. I vote for moving him, because we don't need any more power hitters who strike out alot and can't move baserunners. If we had the dodgers or twins lineup, then yes, keep him, because they're a little light in the homerun department. But, if we're stuck with Thomas, Konerko, Lee, Crede, etc. then we need a guy who doesn't strike out much, favors hitting breaking balls, hits a bunch of singles/doubles, etc. I like Jose for what he is, but some of these all or nothing hitters have to go, whether its Manos, or Koinerko or whoever, we need some better balance in the lineup, IMHO.
