  1. Not a big fan of the Karma the title of the game thread brings us.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 12:35 AM) I'm sure it was an organizational move more than anything else. I don't think there is anyone in the org that actually thinks Oney is a legitimate major league prospect. That isn't a knock on Oney, just more a reality and you can say that about a very good chunk of players playing in minor league baseball. However, there always ends up being a few guys that maybe weren't legitimate prospects (or guys who scouts at least felt had some sort of chance at making the majors) that find ways to make it and thats why people stick around (that and the love of the game). It should be a knock on Oney, he really really sucks
  3. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) I just saw Danks' lineout double play and Ramirez' flip double play. F***ing awesome, both of them Alexei is quietly establishing himself as a potential top tier fielding 2B
  4. Uh yeah, so the Buckeyes are now up to 23 commits for 2009. Unbelievable early commit numbers and are sitting pretty as one if not the top class in the country. So far: 4 star DB CJ Barnett 5 star LB Dorian Bell 3 star DT Adam Bellamy 3 star ATH Zach Boren 4 star ATH Corey Brown 3 star WR Duron Carter (chris carter's son) 4 star DB Dominic Clarke 4 star DE Melvin Fellows 4 star WR Chris Fields 3 star TE Reid Fragel 4 star DB Justin Green 4 star ATH Jordan Hall 3 star LB Adam Homan 4 star RB Carlos Hyde 4 star WR James Jackson 4 star ATH Storm Klein 4 star OL Corey Linsley 4 star DB Bradley McDougald 4 star OL Jack Mewhort 4 star DE Jon Newsome 4 star DT John Simon 4 star LB Jordan Whiting 4 star DB Jamie Wood Talk is that Chris Watt is a silent verbal right now. The Bucks could call it a day on next years class within the next month or so. I havent seen that in my lifetime this early thats for sure.
  5. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) I don't think someone writing about Wrigley Field on SoxTalk.com/Forums counts as "pandering." Praise for Wrigley Field gives almost no one satisfaction on this site, so I would respond that I am not a panderer. That said, I think I'm with RockRaines on this one: things like those described in this thread happen everywhere, including the Cell this week I'm sure, but I will say this in addition: I saw a Cub fan on TV after a homerun -- I think it was Aramis' walkoff -- and he was shirtless and thin as can be and looked really, really drunk and he put his arms up and out like he were being crucified and he just stood there in the bleachers like that, surrounded by humanity, and it was... creepy. There are many die hard cubs fans that really dont hate on the Sox fan base as much as many of their bandwagon imbecile fans do. These idiots are what gives them a bad name, and frankly im surprised that real fans like the ones on NSBB.com don't despise those people more than they despise our borderline fans. They give cubs fans a horrible name, make it impossible for them to get tickets to see their own team, and have basically made it impossible for many die hard cub fans to really feel supportive of their own fan base.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) Danks... what can you say about this kid.. he's a gamer! It was frusterating to see all those runners stranded once again, but a Win is a Win. Bullpen looked good, defense was ontop of things. A rare road series win. Thats a great sign!! The Twins keep winning so were going to have to keep pace with them... Lets win the 1st tommorow vs the damn sCrubs. And to think the Tribune left them off their all city rotation.....in favor of Ted Lilly.
  7. Its funny how fickle this board is. We want to get rid of a contact hitter that can bunt, which is basically one of the things this lineup needs in spots, and everyone clamors for a "power, gap" hitter who makes almost no contact and k's a ton.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) Pablo's only added versatility I can see over Uribe is speed (and Ozuna's speed isn't what it was), and the ability to bunt. Uribe can play all the same positions as Ozuna, except a lot better. Neither can hit well, but Uribe is still better than Ozuna at the plate. So as far as utility and versatility go, I think Uribe has more to offer. All told, I'd rather have Bourgeois and Getz than Ozuna and Uribe anyway. The Uribe/Ozuna discussion is like deciding between brussel sprouts and haggis. I'd like to pass on both, thank you very much. But at least a few people actually like brussel sprouts. How is Uribe better than Pablo at the plate for this role? Pablo hits for more contact, can actually bunt and hit to the right in situations. Uribe can only lift and pull the occassional homer, he hits for much less contact, isnt as good of a bunter and hasnt shown the ability to work the ball over the field. This role has nothing to do with OPS, or SLG or anything, its a simple player who can play in situations in the AL.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) Bad as Uribe is at the plate, he's better than Pablo. I disagree entirely. pablo can do more things off the bench in situations than Juan can. He hits for more contact, can bunt, and hits the other way naturally. We are talking about a situational player here, not even really a once a week guy, and Pablo offers you more versatility than Juan does.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) Uribe can cover 3B defensively as well as Pablo, or better. Uribe can also play short and second with plus defense, which Pablo couldn't hope to do. Neither can hit, though at least when Juan does hit, it goes far. The only plus I see for Ozuna is speed, but with Wise and Anderson on the bench providing some of that, Pablo's value as a PR is miniscule. And Uribe might actually have a small amount of value in trade - Ozuna has none. Mr. Ozuna, you served a purpose well for this team the last few seasons. But its time to go. Pablo is more of a contact hitter, which really fits this club better than another swing and miss all or nothing guy. He also brings a bit of hustle, which Uribe doesnt. Its time to say goodbye to Juan.
  11. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) Anybody see Jay-O's column today trashing North? Proof positive that Jay's house has no mirrors. Since Jay is too much of a coward to allow the Sun-Times' website to post a contact link after his columns: Hey, J.O. - I read your column for once, and the irony is too rich to ignore. Mike North is to radio EXACTLY what you are to newspapers. The two of you are no different. At all. In any way. Repeat, there is ZERO difference between the embarrassment North is and the embarrassment YOU are. None. Every disparaging description you wrote about Mike North applies in equal measure to you. I hope that was put simply enough to sink in. It was the definition of irony. The pot truly calling the kettle black. I hope big Rick writes a response to that. Proving once again that Marriotti has no idea how crappy he really is.
  12. QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) well its four hours back home as well, and the cubs in town. I am just saying. It would be a good excuse for how s***ty he did this past weekend.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox15 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) I like what I'm seeing from Wise. But is he for real? He is 30 years old and has been up and down in the bigs since 2000. Could he just be a AAAA guy who is hot right now? They said he rebuilt his swing and has hit much better. I believe they said he modeled it after JD Drew?
  14. LOLOLOLOLOLOL at Bob Brenley "Nick Markakis is like a left-handed Reed Johnson"
  15. QUOTE (retro1983hat @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but the Cubs undressed the Sox this weekend and exposed every naked weakness we have. Plain and simple, the Cubs are better. I hate to say it, but it's true, and everyone here deep down knows it too. Are they playing better , yes, are they more talented, no. They have several players that are playing WAAAAYYY over their heads, including their best SP, their SS, their 2B, their CF, and their C. We have several players that are underachieving. With both of those factors together, yes they are better right now.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) I rephrase that, his production has completely un-hinged in the past month (which was the last time I checked his numbers). So with that, I no longer think he'll be top 50, but he's still a legit 35-40 HR prospect and those type of guys are rare (they also have a harder time fitting in because offense is the only way to crack through a lineup since he really can't play anywhere other than 1st defensively; maybe LF, but thats about it). 40 HR DH is what he projects as.
  17. There are alot of great defensive OF'ers that never make it in the league or to the league, its because they cant hit. We can hang our hat on his defensive prowess for only so long, he needs to hit, and has shown that he cannot at this point. This was his chance to show that he could be a regular player, and has been nothing short of a disappointment.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Throwing beer at other people, littering the field, yelling at little kids in opposing team's jersies? That's a rarity saved for Wrigley Field. There will be plenty of "Sox fans" doing that very same thing to cubs fans this weekend. Both sides have the drunk, idiot fans, its just there are so many more that would rather do it at wrigley wearing a baby bear on their hat. There are plenty of our fans that do the same crap.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) Anderson is an even money lock to hit a soft grounder to 3B practically every time. His swing is improved but its rather disgusting watching him hit because he really doesn't use any of the field. He needs consistent playing time but I don't know if it should be at the major league level (although I have zero problem playing him every day while Paulie is on the DL, because if he sticks you win. That said Wise isn't near as bad as some of you say and he's had a great approach up at the plate thus far). Still, the long-term benefit is in BA, but he clearly isn't near as polished a hitter as Wise (but most major leaguer's or even bench players are more polished than Anderson...hell a lot of minor leaguers are to be honest). The funny thing is, during ST, Anderson uses the whole field and becomes a pretty good gap to gap player. He was patient at the plate and waited for a pitch to hit hard. During the season he jumps at the ball and becomes a pull/groundball hitter.
  20. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Rock we play in a similar park. Lots of homers on fly balls. Its not like our parks play that different in the summer. Theres no park in the majors that plays like Wrigley. When the wind goes out to left, these guys know what pitches can be hit out.
  21. its worth either one win or one loss.
  22. Just start Russell against them tomorrow. His and Masset's sinkers really put the clamps on HR derby.
  23. Just like playing the Rays in Tampa, its f***ing hard to beat the cubs at wrigley. They just play the park so well.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 10:25 PM) I like how everyone is shutting the door on the KW2 pick already. Pretty funny, seeing as how Dad was a good major league prospect. I watched a little of his college games, there is some talent there no doubt. I do not think he has the projectable talent to be a everyday major leaguer, but he's definitely not a stiff.
