QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) I don't mean this in a negative way towards you, but really, what difference does it make? Its interesting considering the studies and press revolving around the lack of black players in baseball today.

QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 06:44 AM) The point of that article, as I see it, is to say what the Marlins want. Not what the Dodgers are packaging. On top of that it's saying what a lot of people here are saying, in that the Marlins are asking for too much. Nobody thinks our system can compete in the Dodgers, etc. I know the Dodgers are kinda anti-youngster right now, but no GM in baseball would give up that haul. Thats insane.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 08:58 PM) in the fourth quarter, i think ohio state was dominated. i think the definition of domination is you know what the other team is going to do and still can't stop them from doing it. that's what happened in the fourth quarter. for the rest of the time, it was a great game, and one that could have gone in the other direction of other variables went in different ways. but, they didn't. illinois played it's best game, ohio state didn't, and that was pretty much that. good luck to osu the rest of the way. beat michigan. Dude, you are also an OSU fan, why are you wishing "them" good luck. And to be clear, I was joking about the pic. I honestly knew this was a trap game, and it ended up that way. I really thought we were going to end up somewhere around 25-20 in the rankings this year. PLus I made an absolute killing betting on ILL last sat. -

I don't think anyone is trying to say that that single play is why they lost the game. But they were not dominated, they played uncharacteristically bad for them which was supported by the sarcastic post that talk about how the high powered illinois offense dominated an exposed an obviously overrated defense. Of course this was not the case as a defensed played the worst they have all season, and the most efficient qb in the big ten threw 3 unforced picks. It happens, upsets happen. Illinois fans should be proud their team played about as perfect as they could play, but its hard to deny they need osu to play horribly to eeck out a win. The blown call, and overall poor officiating was one of those factors but not the factor. Lotf things need to happen for an upset to happen, and it did. -
Levine is not even close on value for Crawford in that scenario. The twins should have waited for the cubs to outright Monroe, they could have had him without dealing a player.

QUOTE(Shadows @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 06:30 PM) No, not sensitive.. just tired of seeing Ohio State fans use that as an excuse for why they lost when they were dominated the entire game. Yeah, it was a fumble. They missed it. If Ohio State was the superior team that play shouldn't have even mattered. However, if you were saying it in a joking manner, my bad. Dominated....yes. I hope you were also joking when you posted that. Dont confuse me with people who are blaming someone other than my team for the loss. We gave IL 14 points on UNforced turnovers, we didnt call a timeout so the referees could get the fumble call right, we couldnt get our players off the field so IL could punt. We clearly played our worst game of the season and its our fault that we lost. -

QUOTE(Shadows @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) Agreed It was that play, 2 minutes into the game, which cost Ohio State.. most certainly Ooo someone is a little sensitive. Pick up on the tongue in cheek manor that I posted. it certainly would have changed the score as Ill scored 7 right after. Lost by 7, would have been interesting to say the least. I dont need to get into it, but anyone watching that game was questioning some of the officiating. -
I actually like giving a shot to Broadway in the pen. I liked the pitches he featured.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) Granted. The AL does score more runs than the NL, but what's the point though? Jon Garland is Jon Garland. He doesn't turn into a more dominated pitcher if an NL team trades for him. His stats just adjust to the league. Yes, that would be the rational way of thinking, of course people do not think that way. They look at stats and numbers and value players accordingly.
-
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Then you could say that for every AL pitcher. If Johan goes to the Dodgers, his ERA will be 2.10. If Contreras goes to the NL, he becomes a useful pitcher. Even if it is true that all AL pitchers moving to the NL would see a decrease like Ted Lilly, that shouldn't make Jon more valuable because every pitcher will see the same improvement. Barry Zito says hi by the way. Tell Barry I said whats up, and he should have signed in the NL central. On avg, emphasis on avg, pitchers decrease their ERAs by about a point, and no this is not based on one pitcher and one year.
-
Ted Lilly AL ERA's 5.63 5.37 4.34 4.06 5.56 4.32 avg 4.88 NL-3.38 Jon Garland Al ERA 4.41 Im just sayin.... He may be a little better than league avg (yes he is league avg is 4.47) in the AL, but in the NL, if his ERA drops a point and a half which it seems to do when moving to the NL central, he would be flirting with an under 3 ERA.
-
QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) Surprised no one picked up on this: We all know how much Al Qaeda hates the Sox...... The hidden gem in that statement is that if Torri signs with someone else, then we know KW's plan sucks.
-
Garland would probably put up not only the most wins, but perhaps the best era on that staff in the nl central. He would prob put up a mid 3 era if not lower.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) Add me to the Fukudome list. I would rather see someone who is patient, and has a high OBP hitting in front of our thumpers, over some random speed guy. Me too, but he is a huge question mark as well, not always a sure thing.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) Haha, I was waiting for someone to chime in. I thought that was the best chance for an upset, I was obviously wrong. Good win for tOSU. had to, the bait was set. I dont think anyone will know what kind of a team this is until the season is maybe 30 games in. -

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 04:10 PM) As to Illinois next year - say all you want about the schedule, but I'm pretty sure the Illini went into the toughest place in the world to play and simply out played and out coached a superior football team. You know what I've been most happy about following that game: not a single "expert" called it a fluke or said that it was OSU looking ahead to Michigan. Of course OSU will reload nest year and be favored again, but how could you not have Illinois on the short list of conference contenders? Their big three will most likely return (not sure about Mendenhall) and highly ranked recruits are also flooding into Champaign. The difference being that those highly ranked recruits will most likely play whereas at OSU they'll be #2 or #3 on the depth chart. I'd be dumb to say that Illinois is the sure bet when Michigan and OSU are always full of talent, but come on, give Illinois a LITTLE credit. Yes they won the game. The definately played better, and Tressel made some bad choices, but this wasnt exactly a blow out, it was an upset. They were handed 14 points by Boekman, the officiating especially in the replay booth was questionable. The reason nobody says its a fluke is because Illinois is a good, athletic team and OSU simply was and never was going to be the best team in the country. Ive said it probably 10 times in this thread alone. I was happy they were even top 10 at this point frankly. Its nice to have Illinois, especially led by an Ohio man who is a Miami alum (cradle of coaches) and a former OSU football coach, decide to make their program a contender again. It wasnt too many years ago where OSU went down to Champaign as the underdog. With that said, the Big Ten was down this year, and this was the year for one of the lesser known programs to take the title. Instead its the same ol UM OSU title fight just like it usually is. Next year the Big Ten will as a whole be a TON better. OSU may even be top 3 pre season teams, and Ill, Wisco, and maybe PSU will all be pre season top 25. Its nice to see for the people who love the Big Ten like I do. Now we can all carry on to arguing our asses off about out bball teams because the Big Ten will surely be very wide open this year in that sport as well. -
QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) I'd rather have jones than infante. IMO Yeah its not a great trade for the cubs. The tigs can platoon Rayburn and Jones in LF and the cubs can, well they can........I guess they can keep stockpiling 2B.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) Speaking of UM, we might have some fun coaching changes this offseason. If Carr is let go, you could see Les Miles at UM. You could see Tommy Tuberville at Texas A&M. It would also seem to make sense that you could see Steve Spurrier at LSU, that would be scary. You might also see Bobby Petrino come back from the pro game to coach Auburn. Then again you might see none of this. I dont see Carr being gone as usual, but I would be surprised to see Les Miles leave LSU at this point. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) Rock, I love Mallet, and probably he will be the #1 pick over all some day. I just dont love a Soph starting at QB against teams like OSU, Wisconsin, Illinois. Not to mention Arrington will be gone, and judging from the Wisconsin game Manningham will be gone as well. Very true, I just love that kids size, arm and attitude. UM has a bit of rebuilding to go into, and we'll see what kind of a coach Lloyd is when teams like OSU, ILL, PSU and Wisco are stepping up their games. -

SB. The loss of Hart will hurt UM IMO as well, but honestly I think the QB position will be better with Mallet, he is just that damn good. Jake long is a huge loss as well.
