Who is excited for the Toilet Bowl. Michigan vs ND -
QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Saw some previous pages talking about the Hall spring training thing. I have to agree with them, didn't think that was necessary with Mackowiak already on the team. Some others have mentioned Erstad, hell, worst case scenario, Thome can handle it. 1B backup was the least of my worries. You've just hit the nail on the head. Those are all lefties, Hall was over there in case we wanted to stack the lineup with righties.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) Just get the man a competent bench coach, please. I can accept Ozzie being around for the next 5 years as long as he has an experienced baseball guy at his side helping him with his in-game managing. Jack McKeon

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) Please tell me what Bisping did to win the fight. Neither one of them did much, but through the fight, Bisbing was clearly the more active and accurate striker. Hamill eats more punches than many people you will see fight in the UFC. The guy clearly does not belong on his feet. I think the pure amount of strikes he took throughout the later stages of the fight swayed the judges. Hamill is the better fighter, but when will he figure out that he cannot rely on his stand up.

QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) Didn't know you were a Wolverine fan as well. Interesting. HA!

QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) That is fine. I always admit that I don't follow college baseball and amateur players. We all can't be as informed as you are. Michigan fans have been notoriously ill-informed for decades, no biggie.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 01:07 PM) Says the guy who says that nobody has ever taken a #1 pick because of signability. I dont think ive ever even typed the word signability. Nobody has ever taken a 20-something pick 1st just to be safe. It just doesnt happen.

QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) Uh, no. But continue on with the thread. Ok, well then we can just chalk it up to you not being familiar with the amateur baseball draft.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) What part of "he's a good-but-not-great" coach don't you understand? I'm happy enough with him as coach but wish we had someone like Bill Belichick. I'd take a few others over him as well. Dungy. You just can't handle the mildest of criticisms of your lord and savior Chicago sportsmen because anytime anyone criticizes anyone in Chicago you go, "Oh, oh, he's so good, how dare you!" Jesus Christ, I acknowledge that he's good, say he's not great. Agree to disagree and leave it alone. (PS: Coach of the Year doesn't mean he's acknowledged as one of the best. People understand he is one of the better coaches in football but Coach of the Year doesn't mean you're one of the best. Just that you deserved it for being good when you werne't expected to be or for taking your team further than some thought it would go.) Hahahaha. Leave it to you to say agree to disagree when all you ever do is disagree with everything said on this site. You arent happy with any coach, gm or owners of any team in chicago. No coach is considered great unless they are in another city. We can agree to disagree if you like. But there arent many people who are familiar with sports that will disagree with Lovie Smith being one of the top coaches in the NFL.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) IIRC the Bush pick by SD, and the pick of Mauer over Prior were met with the accusations of players being drafted for signability instead of top talents. Mauer at #1 was not a 20-something pick being taken 1st. And bush was considered an elite talent and a top 5 pick. They didnt sign Drew, Weaver or Niemann because of the outragerous bonuses that they wanted, but by no means was Bush considered a 20-something pick either. He was also given the largest signing bonus given to any Padre draft pick.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:44 PM) What? Only one other Coach is better than him? Who the hell is that? Belichick? And then no one? Give me a break. Who then? Lovie is one of the top coaches in the NFL hands down. Besides the results that he brings, the wins, and also the coaching awards, what else do you need to see to determine that he is one of the best in the NFL. most everyone else involved with the NFL agrees with me and he has a coach of the year award to prove it. He followed that up by taking his team to the super bowl the following season. Im beginning to think that you may go through life always wondering if the grass is greener on the other side as you arent happy with any coach or management running ANY chicago team.

Floyd's arm beginning to convert some believers

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) I think that's very possible but I don't think that's saying much. you're really going on a limb, you know? I would bet that we're still bad next year. Well. You were very confident that our offense will not improve next season. I am saying that they will. All i am asking is that you stand by your claim. This team is not as bad as they played this year, nor are all the players. We certainly have huge holes to plug. But if they play this season 10 times, this just may have well been the worst case scenario. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) I wouldn't make that bet just yet but I'd definitely wager against the Sox offense being anything resembling good next year. I'd bet against the Sox being a top half offensive team next year, if they bring back 7 of our nine starters, or Crede. So we agree that they will score more runs next season than they did this season? -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) We are only a player or two away, my friend. the bullpen will be good next year because that's how relievers work (good/bad), the pitchers will get better and the offense will go back to the back of the baseball card. Yeees! Well. Taking the horribly unpredictable methods of statistics. There is a huge chance that our star players wont play like 2007's outliers. If you would like to, I would bet you at least one cubs/sox pair of tickets that we score more runs next year than we did this year. -
QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:56 AM) Hatred for what? KW obviously. NOBODY that has the number 1 pick does what you just said. The only reason you said it was because you wanted to say something negative about the management of this team.

We need to hope Gavin figures it out because we need to clear payroll to upgrade and invigorate this offense. Two main things need to happen for us to do that. 1. We need to trade one of our proven starters to clear payroll and hopefully bring back something of value 2. We need a minimum salary player to step up and take a spot in the rotation. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) Yeah, Bisping was clearly handed that match. Everyone I was watching it with was surprised and pissed that he someone got 2/3 of the judges' decisions. And to make things worse, he talked s*** in the post-match interview. Hamill was gracious about the "loss," which was a classy move. Hamill deserved to lose. How many more times must this idiot try to stand up and strike with clearly superior punchers. Hey Matt, take a clue, you are a wrestler, take the other fighter down to the ground. This is the same s*** he did in the Ultimate Fighter. He is too headstrong to be a true champion in MMA.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) ....wins the Super Bowl. Besides maybe one other coach, Lovie has to be considered the best or one of the best in the league hands down. Respective to their sports, he is head and shoulders above Ozzie, even with Ozzie's ring.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) I love how this has been thrown in the faces of the people who have supported giving Floyd some starts. Because it's the pitcher's advantage that it's raining -- afterall, everyone knows it's easy to throw the ball when the leather is constantly wet. Very, very easy, in fact -- advantage to nth degree for Floyd. I'd say last night was his most encouraging start but he's still got a ways to go. If he could give the Sox a 5.00 ERA in 2008 -- which I'm not quite confident yet he could do -- the Sox should take that running to the bank. That being said, I am a little dissappointed that his fastball hasn't really been as advertised. They told us he was sitting in the mid-90s, and I can only recall a start or two where he was "sitting" at 92-94. Mainly he's been low 90s which would be okay if he had great control, but he doesn't. He has lost a touch of velocity, but still rings it up into the 90's. The reason he has done this is that Coop shortened his stride and delivery to achieve greater control. Check out his motion now vs when he first pitched for us. He is keep his head steady and taking an easier stride. It appears to be working. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:17 AM) They both have a lot of proving to do. I think at best Danks will be a 3 starter, jmo. Could be. But I would hold off on judging him by his performance this season. He was up a year early, performed quite well and has shown in his career that it takes him a season to figure out the level he is at. -
QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:06 AM) I think it is funny that some people think that if we have the #1 pick, we'll pick the best player and pay him the big bonus money and such. We will probably draft a kid that would normally be a #20 pick or so and go cheap. nobody does that with the number 1 pick. Deflect your hatred elsewhere.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:06 AM) I put Floyd and Danks in the same category. I am not exactly sold on Danks or Floyd neither has electric stuff but if they throw strikes and learn how to work hitters they could be 3/4 guys. The begining of their careers mirror that of Jon Garland who is a 3/4 guy. I find it amazing how people will give up so easily on 24 year pitchers. I could see if there were health issues but he appears to be a guy that can give you innings. Whoa. I wouldnt compare those two in the same sentence like that. Danks is up in the majors a year early. He is so good we HAD to put him in the rotation. He will prove better than a 3/4. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) Lovie Smith is a perfectly fine football coach but I'm not a big fan. I don't think he's good at making adjustments and I'm a much bigger fan of other coaches. It's nothing big and personal though, but leave it to RockRaines to crack if someone doesn't like a good-but-not-great Chicago coach. yeah, its hard to support one of the best coaches in the league who has lived up to almost everything he has set out to do from the outset. No matter he rebuilt the team the way he wanted it and got us to the superbowl in 3 years. No matter his team had one of the highest scoring offenses and best defenses in the league last season. No matter his team has improved steadily over his tenure. No matter he is not only one of the most respected coaches in the league, but that his team has a better image than most in the NFL. No matter all of that. Hes not great until he.........................

shes a cutie. The boob job did her well, although I think she went too big.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) This team would be much better off with a real quarterback and a better offensive coordinator. I'm not a big fan of Lovie, either, but Turner's not good at his job and neither is Grossman. You arent a big fan of lovie? Why. Did the winning rub you the wrong way?
