QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) If it's so easy to divvy out the blame/recognition then how much of '05 was Ozzie's doing? I didn't realize it was so easy to figure out how much of an effect a manager has on a ballclub's success, are the good seasons good because of the manager and the s***ty seasons s***ty because of the players? I just don't think giving a manager a contract extension during one of the worst season's in club history is a very good idea. Really now? You would think that from following the team you could possibly recognize when a team plays at the level of its shoetops like this year. There was nothing ANY manager in baseball could do to right this ship this year. Look at the horrible years these guys are having. Which is why you use their career as a good gauge of their success. Ozzie is 329-293 with an 11-1 mark in the playoffs. Out of his 4 years of manager, this is the first time he will be under .500. I would say thats enough to warrant an extension.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) How about someone with a little experience. Nossek was great as a counter balance, and a man with a lot of experience. Torborg would be fine, however Ozzie isnt going to get rid of his little buddy. Great more Greg Walker for the life of Ozzie's contract, I just can't wait. Nossek is a good point. Which is why i would like someone like mcKeon who has lots of experience, and hopefully someone with a little more NL experience.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) You don't give a manager a contract extension during a season in which they're possibly the worst team in the league. You decided to compare the '06 Indians to the '07 Sox, this has nothing to do with '05. You're the one who started the Wedge/Guillen comparison. Once again, a contract extension takes into consideration your career and track record as a manager, during both contract extensions I compared the manager's record. Wedge had ONE season of above .500 ball, Ozzie has a ring, 90 wins seasons and one horrible year which is basically 98 percent the players fault.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) Key, right there - gotta be someone he respects. In fact, I'd bet he'd be willing to help in the process. Generate a list of names that have the right knowledge set, and let him be involved in the interviewing and choosing, from that list. jack Mckeon

Seems like a smart move to me.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) The Indians finished 6 games under .500 that year, this year's Sox team is on pace to win 68 games. And your point? He also never won a WS, never won back to back 90 game seasons, and had at that point only been over .500 ONCE. Ozzie is a winner and this years lack of success falls solely on the crap KW put together and the horrific years that several of our stars are having. There is no better option out there for a manager. This is a good move.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) I don't blame this season on Ozzie at all. I do believe he is a horrible manager though. Plus, you always see teams give their manager an extension when they're in a battle for the worst record in baseball. The tribe gave Wedge and extension during a bad year and he has a worse record than ozzie does. Does that mean they continue to make horrible personnel decisions as well? In fact this is only Wedge's second season over .500 in 5 years.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Yup "White Sox organization continues to make awful decisions." Yeah, they should probably fire him and hire someone else. this team would have been 100-62 without Ozzie

Great News. He has proven to be a winner and will have more success next year with better players.

QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) Come on. I used a ten year period. If you want to use an eleven year period...fine. They got Joe Mauer. So they were so bad that they drafted top ten for 8 of 11 years and added Joe Mauer with those high picks. I don't WANT to be horrible for 8 years so I can add one very good player. My point was, and remains if you add Joe Mauer, top 10 picks in the ML draft assure nothing. And winning meaningless games still feels good. Well. How many of those afformentioned picks were the #1 pick? Joe mauer was. So if we keep losing we get OUR Joe mauer. How about this list instead: #1 draft picks 1990 Chipper jones 1991 brien taylor 1992 Phil Nevin 1993 A-Rod 1994 Paul Wilson 1995 Darin Erstad 1996 Kris Benson 1997 Matt Anderson 1998 Pat Burrell 1999 Josh Hamilton 2000 Adrian Gonzalez 2001 Joe Mauer 2002 Bryan Bullington 2003 Delmon Young 2004 Matt Bush 2005 Justin Upton 2006 Luke hochevar 2007 David price I would say getting the number 1 pick greatly increases your chances of drafting an impact player moreso than any other position in the draft. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) It baffles me how scared some people think having a top 3 pick is. Instead of trying to find a reason to be pessimistic about it, people should be excited as hell. Having the #1 or #2 pick in the draft would HELP a GM that you are unsure of, not hurt them. Those are usually the most obvious picks in the draft. -

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Something tells me even with a Top 10 or even a Top 5 pick, KW will pick yet ANOTHER pitcher with a low ceiling who won't even sniff AAA. But that's JMO. What in the hell would ever give you that impression? How many people pick a low ceiling ANYTHING with the #2 or #1 pick. -

Its pretty hilarious how the 29th pick from the sox is being compared to the possible #1 pick of the draft. They are apples and oranges people -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) What's the fan distribution for the Iowa/NIU game? I ask because I have some somewhat close friends who attend both schools, so I'm interested... The entire city is filled with iowa fans. -

so in this video http://video.on.nytimes.com/index.jsp?fr_s...3233322e4570156 They show a patron with what looks to be a very obvious hammer to the forehead injury. Anyone see that?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:26 PM) .291/.343/.344/.688 55 R, 15.5 2B, .5 3B, 2 HR, 24 RBI, 25:30 BB:K, 7.5 SB, 3.5 CS That's what he's averaged over the past 2 seasons. That's 18 XBH 18! I think I just threw up a little bit

I couldnt agree with you more Flash. This reeks of a last place finish. im just happy this is a reporter spitballin instead of actual rumor. Burhrle's quote makes me think that they are going for bigger fish and this may be just a smoke screen.

Rocky Cherry and Scott Moore go to the O's. Pretty hefty price for someone you dont need.

If hes lost this team, get rid of them and get a new one. ozzie isnt the one at fault this year, these players played like they were waiting for next year since April. Get rid of the dead weight.

Per Mark Buehrle: "''They talked to me about what they want to do and who they want to get,'' pitcher Mark Buehrle said. ''It will be something if they get who they want to get, but the possibility of getting a few of the names are a stretch. If they get them, we'll be right back to where we were two years ago.'' That doesnt sound like Eckstein to me.

The question being: Why?
