QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:46 AM) Doubles are a part of SLG%, if you're going to list doubles you might as well go the whole way and list 3B and HR as well. i dont really look at slg for a lead off hitter at all. I dont see HR as THAT much value IMO. I like doubles, OBP, steals. either way those guys dont have any power to speak of.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Furcal and Renteria may be available in trade, for something like Garland-plus. And they are $10M and $13M for 2008 respectively (or maybe its the other way around, I can't recall). I think I'd rather have Furcal, if we can make it happen. Either way we are looking at overpaying someone for their SS abilities and a little bit of lead off ability. Of course I dont see many people complaining about the low OPS of Furcal or the horrific slg%. Of all of the choices brought up, are any of them really game changers? Renteria is having a career year. I would count on more of his career avg production .291 .349 .757 OPS 29 2B Furcal career .286 .351 .761 OPS 23 2B Eckstein .284 .349 .708 OPS 13 2B Young .301 .346 .793 OPS 33 2b-though has improved on his career numbers the last few seasons ANY of these guys scream difference maker? Maybe doubles should be something we look for?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) Charlotte has a few players worth noting. I think the system is stronger than its given credit for in the pitching department. And there seem to be some exciting players at the lower levels this season - Great Falls and Kanny. But the middle is weak (High A, AA), the DSL don't seem too great, and the whole system is really barren for position player talent. Not completely empty, but pretty close. Overall, the system is hurting. But there are some positives building up as the year goes on, and the Sox managed to do well with getting draft picks signed. So I wouldn't call it the worst or even among the few worst. But definitely below average. Agreed. But I see some little bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Our draft this year wasnt bad, Poreda looks to be good, even one of my sleepers (johnson) is producing at the lower tiers. With this upcoming draft, it may be the make or break draft of KW's career.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:21 AM) i also saw us mentioned as being one of 3 teams that have an argument for the worst system, but i can't find it anymore also baseball america had us at 25 to start the year....texas and SD were below us and certainly both bolstered their systems via trades this year, which according to their list would place us in the bottom 3 or 4.....and now that fields is no longer part of the system...sweeney is increasingly disappointing and cunningham gone it looks bleak...... Gio was just rated one of the best lefties in the minor leagues, and we have had several standout players of the months and top skills guys. Callis's comment doesnt mean anything to me, as it appears we have several impact arms on the horizon.

I mean, seriously?

Official Hate for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread
RockRaines replied to fathom's topic in The Diamond Club
The cards could make up some serious ground here if the Brew Crew would get their head out of their asses. -
once again, whats with all this "measured by finish place" etc etc. He has a ring. Thats the ultimate goal in professional sports. I would gladly trade in 10 division titles for one World Series ring.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:05 AM) I'm not so sure spending 6 years, $85M on a 31 year old close to league average hitter with little speed who's playing out of position at SS -- he's obviously better suited for 2B -- is the best plan of attack. $16M a year for a guy who has posted an .830+ OPS only twice in his career and hasn't reached that mark in 2 years doesn't sound like a good investment, it sounds an awful lot more like another situation where Tom Hicks decided to throw WAY too much money at one player. I dont know if hitting .300 is league average nowadays. I have the league avg for SS at .277. In fact for SS he is above the league avg in every hitting category. Its true he is a bit expensive, but there arent many options out there for us to satisfy both the hole at SS and a lead off hitter.

watched it last night, not as funny as Knocked up or Virgin, but still pretty amusing.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) its sad that this team has so little to chear for on the big league team, and in the minors....people are starting to consider that the sox have the worst farm system in all of baseball....there isnt one position prospect im actually excited about right now....sweeney i guess could still turn out all right, but i still honestly dont see him as ever becoming an impact player....maybe an average OFer....id honestly be thrilled if he turned into a milton bradley type...but im not sure that hell even get there..and how sad is it that our best position prospect barely projects out to milton bradley?? Since when are we considered the worst farm system in baseball?

I wonder if there is a package we could put together to net Michael Young from the rangers. That would fill a #1 hitter and a SS hole. Also would make alot of the go with the pitches lovers on this site.
-
Going with the pitch sounds great and all. Until you have a pitcher that wants you to pull the ball, or hit it to the 2B. Greg Maddux would love a lineup of predictable hitters like this.

At least we can admit it was VERY LIKELY that he was drinking that night

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) Well then what's a better GM, one that had one lightning in a bottle year and a ring, and the rest of the time misses the playoffs every year, or one with a solid farm system and who is in the playoffs on a very regular basis? The ring feels better, but the organization with consistent trips to October and a good farm system is far better off long term. Isnt the goal of playing the MLB to win a ring? I didnt know that also-ran was the goal.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) whats wrong with that... the Drew Carey show rocked! Not after all you hear is Cleveland Rocks all day and the guy never leaves the room.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) I have to say Ozzie. He's lost the players, his managerial decisions blow up in his face and the combination of his mouth and his losing ways have just made me sick. his losing ways? Are you demented?
-
That lineup is still so slllllooooowwwww. I actually prefer richar batting #2.
-
Any team with PODS on it is a terrible team. Plus Ozuna isnt a starter.
-
my freshman year roomate was the worst. He didnt go anything, never went out and only watch the Drew Carey show from morning until night. We literally didnt speak for 3 months straight

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 11:09 AM) I wouldn't go anywhere near that. Jones has rarely been the hitter that his name recognition suggests he is and his defense has regressed a fair amount. While we could use a .260-type hitter with some power, at that price he doesn't make much sense, especially at the end of the contract. Plus he'll be coming off a Dye-like year at the plate. If it's going to take 5 years and $15 mil+ to get either of them, I'd rather not see us touch them. True, its alot of coin to fork over for a declining star. BUT........it would make a nice addition to the lineup. 1.? 2. Richar 3. Thome 4. konerko 5. Dye 6. Jones 7 Fields 8 AJP 9 Crede probably one of the slowest lineups ever put together

So is this going to be the next trend for athletes? Drink while drunk, crash your car, leave the scene until you sober up, then admit to a single car accident.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) It stops now. Any posts after mine with that kind of crap will result in suspensions. I'll clean up the rest now... what crap? You know we were kidding right?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 07:31 AM) Anyone think maybe he should get as much consideration at 2B as Richar? Maybe a platoon? one of them has to be able to play SS.
