Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN
RockRaines replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) Normally I hate John Stewart, but this was pretty good. I had the same reaction watching the NBC guys talk about Vick. God forbid this ends Vicks football days. It would be so awesome if Goodell threw the book at him and banned him from the league for life. If the professional sports leagues would grow a pair and realize more money would be made in not running thug leagues than by keeping high profile names we'd all be happier. Mr. Stern...calling Mr. Stern... How many other professions in the world are totally cool with you making an appearance in prison. Acting, and professional sports is the only ones I can think of. Maybe bounty hunting. If this happened to me at my job, I would not only be fire, but most likely would condemn myself to starting my own biz or working retail or fast food. -
QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) Jon relies way too heavily on his two-seamer and sinker because his off-speed stuff is mediocre. If he threw 97, like Randy Johnson in his prime, he might be able to get away with that. But it doesn't work when you top off at 89. fixed

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) You're serious, though. Yup. it has been said that a regular pitching schedule is actually easier on the arm than a closers role. Also Bobby has proven that he is now a pitcher and not a thrower. He has at least 5 usable pitches. We have to trade someone in our rotation and have a glaring hole possibly. It makes a little bit of sense IMO.
-
Personally I think Bobby should be given a chance to compete for a spot in the rotation next year.

Mike Myers Signs/ Andy Gonzalez optioned to Charlotte
RockRaines replied to JenksForPrez45's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Boone Logan is our #1 Loogy anyway. Myers is just an afterthought and Thorton could be great trade fodder. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) I think Richar has shown enough to give him a starter's job for next season. He's got good plate discipline and he's shown a bit of power. All he needs to do is to work on his defence, and increasing that BA of his. Hes below the mendoza line yet still has a OBP higher than PODS and Owens
-
made me look like a reatard huh.
-
Frankly I think that KW knew what was wrong with FG when he traded him, and thats why he jumped at that offer.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) Up until 3 weeks ago, he was second in the AL in OBP. I'll take that decline. He's as streaky as they come. He may hit 8 homers the next 2 weeks. The thing is when he's hitting, he's also walking a lot and not striking out much. When he's not going well, everything pretty much goes with him. He'll be fine. Well if OBP is all you want from him then thats good. But his eye isnt something that delines, his power stroke does.

Garland has proven this is who he is. Of course we can deal him to the NL he can flirt with a sub 4 ERA and we will have to endure Mariotti's rants about how he flourishes better without Guillen, but its pretty much predictable how he will pitch.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 04:41 AM) Why not? Why can't we be the Twins? This is exactly the problem I have with comments such as yours. We're so willing to emulate the Twins on the field with their philosophy of "playing the game right" and having "grinders," yet we're not willing to match the Twins and their success from within? Well the twins are pretty much doomed to finish out of the playoffs in this division for awhile, and without Santana they have basically no chance. Its nice that their best players were top draft picks (morneau 3rd round i guess not really a top pick, Mauer #1) and basically no-brainers and all, but without Johan, they are nothing but an average team.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 06:43 PM) That's a really good point. The Sox' system may have a few future starters who are near ready, but its unlikely they will come up and give you that kind of workmanship in their rookie year. Its a serious rarity for a rookie to come up and give you 200 innings. We would have to sign or trade for a stop gap until gio or eggy is ready.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) He himself says his shoulder started bothering him in Spring Training. Why would it matter to him when he claims it happened? Didn't he just have forearm tightness while with the Sox? It was also a huge mystery how he lost 8 mph on his fastball.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) Jim Thome, even when healthy, has traditionally been one of the streakiest hitters in baseball. I'll give you hsi splits from 04, when he was healthy, as an example: April/Mar. .364 .456 .714 1.170 May .253 .371 .560 .931 June .306 .430 .816 1.246 July .229 .345 .417 .762 August .264 .412 .560 .972 Sept./Oct .225 .364 .380 .744 Even when he was pretty healthy, in a season where he hit 42 home runs, his numbers swung up and down like crazy. You can look back at earlier seasons and see the same thing (hit .212 in April of 02, etc.) If he's actually hurting, then he's hurting. But just because his numbers are down for a month doesn't necessarily mean he's finished. When was the last time he slugged under .500? How bout under .530? Shoot, whens the last time he hit under 30 hr's? The guy is declining, and declining fast.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 04:42 PM) HA! While this is correct, the recent injury to McCarthy could suggest he had it while with the Sox....... Absolutely to both. Anyone who thinks Freddy wasnt injured while with the sox is flat out dreaming.

Obviously we werent getting value for Dye, but im sure everyone will not focus on that and instead wonder why the Red Soc dumped Willy mo this far after the trade deadline for basically nothing. Oh yeah, its because WMP isnt worth s***.

RockRaines replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Wanna know what I hate? The Monday night football goons last night saying how Vick needs to donate thousands of dollars to PETA or the Humane Society to "make it right" with people and to "prove that he has love for animals." Is that what we have become? donate some money and its all good? STFU you retards. I think he has proven through his actions, electrocuting, hanging, murdering dogs at every whim, that he doesnt give a s*** about f***ing animals. He is a piece of crap and no amount of donations are going to change that you goons. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) You can't trade Garland because he's a winner. Look at how many games he won from 2005-2006. I think more than Halladay or Carpenter. Yeah he sure got robbed in the Esteban Loaiza deal. Same with Sirotka Unloading an injured Freddy was pretty sweet too. So was BMAC for Danks
-
his production has dropped WAY off. Is there any mystery that he is starting a dramatic decline?
-
The only way id trade garland is if we could get something along the lines of a Jimmy Rollins in return. If we cant, its not worth it IMO
-
sweet bootleg video
-
prob one of the worst bdays you can ever have. but still have a good one
-
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) We're talking about Sake, Rock SNAP!!!

Garland has pretty much shown what he can be as a pitcher. I dont know how great of value he will bring to us. Definatley not enough for us to compete right away. Although his replacement (Egbert) could be waiting in the wings.
