The only problem i had with Gavin today was the fake mean face he featured walking to the dugout every inning.
-
Richar and Owens are impressive. Its nice to have a 3B who can run as well. Gavin's stuff was nasty today, I dont think I have seen that sinker and change that he was featuring today. That 2 seamer that he punched out Maggs with was nasty.

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 4, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) Ew! She is nasty! Not even good looking! I expect more from you, PA! She looks like she got hit in the face. I wouldn't expect TOO much more from PA. Beggars cant be choosers

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) You're right about not looking at all the numbers. Joe's "paultry" .717 OPS in his worst season is really blown away by Fields current .723. I don't know how you can be so certain Fields will be a walk machine, and since he only played a couple of months and did improve a little in July, does that mean he will improve every month? Can you think of anything funnier than you dismissing his not even full season of at bats and then admitting that they are a full view of what he will be.

QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) I dont know if it was posted, because Im not going to read 49 pages of this thread, but the Twins were making a big push for Dye Tried for Dye, Piazza Ryan worked the phones hard before Tuesday's nonwaiver trade deadline but has been reluctant to discuss the talks. But sources have confirmed that Ryan was on the phone with Chicago General Manager Kenny Williams on Tuesday in an attempt to trade for White Sox right fielder Jermaine Dye. Trading within the division is tough. The Twins haven't made a deal with the White Sox since 1986 and haven't made a trade with a division team since 2001, when they landed relief pitcher Todd Jones from the Tigers. It's not known what Ryan offered, but Dye remains with the White Sox and is negotiating a contract extension. The Twins also were interested in Mike Piazza, who would have been a designated hitter and the third catcher. There have been indications that Piazza prefers to play on one of the coasts. Still, the Twins could make a move for Piazza if he clears waivers, or put in a waiver claim on him sometime this month. Piazza entered Friday batting .297 with three homers and 20 RBI. He has been limited to 38 games because of shoulder problems. Any team that lands Piazza now would be on the hook for about $2.8 million, but the Twins have saved about $2.5 million by trading Luis Castillo and losing Cirillo on waivers. http://www.startribune.com/509/story/1343493.html I dont know what the offer was, but im 100 percent sure that Ryan would have gotten the best of KW in ANY deal.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) I think it was one episode cancelled 5 minutes after it aired. Brody Jenner was a part of it. Major trainwreck. Actually its called Sons of Hollywood and it involves Aaron Spellings kid too.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) Outside of April, B-Mac has been superb for Texas. In his last 12 starts his ERA is at about 3.75. I'm not going to complain about the B-Mac for Danks trade, but I still believe B-Mac got shafted in 2006. They said in Spring Training that B-Mac would get spot starts to spell any of the five in case they started to 'tire' because of the extra innings from the World Series. That never happened, despite the fact that any of Buehrle, Contreras and Garcia (before his awesome September) probably could've used some rest at various points in the season. I dont know about superb. In may he pitched well, had one start in June and in July he is 1-3 with a 4.09 ERA 16k's 14bb.

Since when is striking out the worst thing that a player ever did? With a little more seasoning Josh will be a walk machine, and his OBP will show that. And showing Crede's worst year as something that wasnt that bad is really showing how much you ignore certain numbers. How bout his paltry .717 OPS that year? Basically Fields has shown that he can produce at the same rate right now in his first season for ALOT less money. In july Fields improved his OBP, SLG BA and his walk rate. Crede is a slow, injured, soon to be expensive player. We need his salary to pick up a piece that we are really missing, at least before his back goes out again and that only option IS non-tendering him.

id rather have him prove he blows this season than have us count on him in the rotation next season. Let him fail or succeed now.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) There's no telling what the status of McCarthy would be right now too. The way he was handled last year did nothing to help him. BMAC isnt the pitcher we thought he was, bar none

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) Cover-2 is f***ed the minute Urlacher slows down. I hope they can draft well. I figured they would draft and start grooming his replacement in the next 3 years sometime. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) To pull off a trade, as I'm sure you know, you look at a million things. Scouting reports, video, statistics, history, etc. etc., and I would guess that whoever told Kenny about Young and Anderson told him Young would be better (that'd be my guess) but that Anderson would be all right. I wonder who these scouts were, and why White Sox scouts didn't identify his terrible approach and swing from the minor leagues. I know he hit well in the minors, but the IL isn't that good. Did they just look at his numbers and imagine he could fill in suitably as a result? How was that decision made? Scouts, and Kenny, failed badly on that one. Hugely. I think everyone knew what Young was projected to be, but someone somewhere kept projecting BA as a suitable if not a good CF'er of the future. They projected him so well that we could dump the Mike Cameron of the future for a pitcher for a run at a repeat.

Gio's number are flat out filthy this year. He needs to be given a long hard look at ST next year and then place at the top of the rotation at Charlotte

Im with ya Randy. If you keep the plodding middle of the order in tact and keep athletes like Richar, Sweeney, Fields, Etc around them in the order this offense would be mighty good. We need some more speed at the top and bottom, and we need these young guys to bring TONS of energy to this team.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) I'm not sure I'd have pulled the trigger on that deal, even then. I dont know, EVERYONE in the world thought that Javy would put this team over the top to repeat. We also didnt know that Brian Anderson would be such a ridiculous bust.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) Good article. I'd definitely like to have him back, even for Javier. Now, yes, when we traded him, no.

QUOTE(AirScott @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) Agreed. And it's Danieal Manning. Thats really the beauty of the cover-2. We arent totally f***ed until Urlacher leaves. -

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) Alrighty there, Admiral Angry. I'm just saying that Thome is going to retire soon. Konerko has a degenerative hip and the White Sox LOVE him. Thome is signed through next year and has an option in 2009. If the Sox don't pick it up, which they probably won't cuz it's for $13 mil with a $3 mil buyout...I could see Paulie being moved to DH. And errors, like pitchers wins, is not a good stat for defensive ability. Either way, Paulie is a VERY good defensive 1B, he makes alot of good plays and is one of the best in the biz at picking bad throws. He can easily play out his contract in the field. Dye should be extended 2 years with a 3rd year option. Making RF not a problem for us. With youth and defensive ability coming in to the rest of the OF, I feel ok with Dye out there. I also think that Richar's range at 2B is going to help Paulie out as well.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) That KW is one of the top GMs of this franchise isn't a testament to how great he is. It's a testament to how bad this organization's history is. I believe its one of the winningest over the past 25 years.

Does anyone want to bet that Dye outproduces WMP next season? Any takers for WMP? Come on big talkers.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 08:39 AM) Ya know, part of the reason the Mods got their reputation back in the late 60's was due to the fighting, drinking, and drugs. They were pretty boys, but ya didn't dare mess with any of them. Rod has had his fair share of tough times. If you have seen anything of Sean Stewart on his stupid reality show, the guy doesnt have the coordination to punch anyone at all. He is nothing like the boys in the 60's.

How about Owners as well. Got to put JR on the top of that list. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) I was under the impression that one of the big things hurting his performance this year was that bad hamstring that finally sat him down for a few games in June, and he finally seemed to turn it back on to me when his legs finally felt better. It could be. I was under the impression that in his first season with the sox he put a TON of pressure on himself to try and replace maggs and went into a slump which was VERY similar to this years. He got over it that season just like this season as well. I think Dye comes back huge next year.

Hows Logan been doing down there lately? I really liked that kid.
