QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) Just a quick question, who's worse, Juan Uribe or Craig Monroe? Uribe by a long shot. Monroe rakes against lefties and his 30 hr's last year and 5 in the playoffs.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) um... he just hit a double. But, in principle this is a good point - he needs more rest. Dye should DH a bit more, and we need more out of our backup OF's. Frankly Thome should have been shut down weeks ago for an extended period of time. Hes been hurt all season and needs the rest. Sweeney should have been up here by now learning to hit inside fastballs.

Well with Pratt's thinking, every team should sell off players at peak value, regardless of whether you want to make a run at competing at all. As long as you bring in more and more and more prospects that are highly rated. Of course out of the last several WS champions I think maybe one had a young team of players before their primes or in their primes, the majority had veteran players playing a majoe role, but dont tell that to the spect lovers on this board. Cause we all KNOW that minor league scouting is the KEY to winning in the MLB.

So as i have mentioned before I live within a 3wood (in mymind) of the sears tower. Last night from my roof deck you could watch the lightning repeatedly strike the sears tower with clarity. My friend recorded it on his cell phone and it was unreal how clear it is.

Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN

I think its funny that Vicks "boys" told the feds about Vick being present and taking part in killing over 8 dogs, and also told them that he supplied all the money for betting, and yet Vick thinks he can just not cop to those charges. If thats part of the plea agreement, thats fine, but we ALL know you did it Mike. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) Welcome to the (NOT SO) real world. You think it's bad now, wait until you have a real job. No kidding. I wonder if you guys would like having a day of classes that looks like this: 8-12 work 12-12:30 lunch 12:30-5 work

QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) OK...it looks like me against the board. You guys sure don't treat dissenting newbies with any patience. You say there's no one that can compare with Garza because of his stuff. Gavin Floyd was the #4 overall pick in the 2001 draft because of his great stuff. He sure hasn't harnassed it yet but somewhere inside him... Jake Peavey was a 15th round selection but somewhere between everyone saying he didn't have the stuff to draft high...he found stuff. There's just absolutely no way that you can make the claim that there is only one guy in the Sox organization that has a "a shot at being as good as Garza." It's is entirely possible that Garza won't be any good...and then we have a whole SYSTEM full of guys that could be as good. You could say that there is no one in the Sox organization outside of DLS that could be as good as Santana...and then I would agree. But until Garza is Santana...well he's just another 24 year old with a 5-10 record. As for Haeger...man he's a 24 year old coming very close to mastering the knuckleball. To write him off completely is just wrong. I agree with you, but its a needless fight against certain people who want nothing more than to have a team just like the Twins. Frankly, ask a die hard twins fan and they would trade our WS title in 2005 for all of these first round exits and seasons where they have Ponson as a piece of their rotation. With the loss of Tori Hunter, Santana, and the question marks surrounding Mark Prior 2, they may have some dark days ahead of them.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) Jeez that was fast - radar says the main front is already out over the lake and head out of the area. Just a bunch of rain left behind. I wonder if any of those reported tornadoes touched down. They said bollingbrook. I live in the loop, and i know the chances are basically 0 percent of it happening, but dread the day that a tornado actually hits the loop and does some real damage.

Uh yeah, then Curacao walked them off. THEY GONE!

monroe is a great hitter of the high inside fastball. He kills those pitches and has shown that he is a decent #2 hitter. Of course this year he regressed into a player that was dfa. Now the cubs want to pick him up so yet another player can block the dev of Matt Murton.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) I need new shoes. I had thought about buying some of those Starbury shoes due to my liking the concept of them, and them being in a great price range. Welp, now it looks like I'll be going back to Wal-Mart and buying something a little more expensive but not endorsed by a moron. Starbury made a good name for himself with those shoes earlier in the year. He made an impression on alot of people of someone with compassion. Of course now he makes dumbass comments like dog fighting is a sport, just behind doors. Want to know what sport was behind closed door a couple of years ago? MMA and the entire UFC. Does anyone think dogfighting will have the same mainstread success? No, because its cruel and unusual, and these atheletes are proving not only their lack of education, but their downright lack of common sense. What happened to the athletes that were good role models and decent citizens? Now some of them spend more time in jail than on the field, and they STILL have someone trying to rationalize their actions. -

I find that jesse jackson and the NAACP spokespeople are not a very good representation of the black community. -

Honestly, I dont think a majority of black people follow the NAACP and their beliefs. I honestly havent come across a single person who has mentioned that this is race related etc. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) Fruto is (or rather was) a high velocity arm with an exceptional changeup who had great success in AAA last season. Can you name a similar pitcher in the Sox organization? Carter, the player the Red Sox are recieving, is a defensively challenged 1B (probably a dh) who has posted better numbers than anyone not sharing the same name in our system. Though he's been classified by many as a AAAA player. And yet they wanted a former WS MVP and a guy who put up MVP numbers last season, and they wanted time to negotiate with him for an extension.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Contreras is weak-minded? Let's see your background and how tough you are. Until you've become an exile and a refugee and pitch your team to a World Series, you don't have the proper, ah, credentials to call Jose Contreras weak-minded, bad though he's been of late because of his arm angles and family problems. Hes still a weak minded pitcher no matter if he floated over here on a freakin sponge rowing with his ass cheeks

"But this is the same media scrutiny that all celebrities get. Paris Hilton was skewered by the media during her court proceedings. Do you think Vick is being treated differently because he’s black? I think part of it is his celebrity status, but I think it’s racially influenced as well. Obviously celebrities are scrutinized, but he has attracted scrutiny prior to this case for no other reason than because of his “thuggish” image. That persona may have turned some people off, and when people see that they assume you’ve done something wrong. He’s definitely getting attention because of his celebrity, but in terms of people’s judgment of his guilt, that’s essentially racial profiling. He’s been completely vilified. I haven’t heard one commentator come to Vick’s defense, even to play devil’s advocate." Whoa there buddy. You think he is being villified because of his image, or because he is truly a villain to every loving dog owner in the United States. He broke the law, admitted it, and is being processed for it. If there was no media to speak of, he would still be convicted of a crime he committed. -

If I was a member of the NAACP I would not condone somebody trying to align our organization with a proven criminal who is a vicious murderer of animals for sport. Why dont you stick to some of the athletes who actually do some good. I read stories by Rick Reilly in SI sometimes about athletes that donate multiple homes to victims of Katrina, or just hard-cases from their neighborhood. THOSE are the cases I would focus on, not trying to defend an athlete that has already declared himself guilty of a crime and has under every sense of the law, been proven a criminal. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) still under the mendoza line in close/late situations. But is one of our best with runners in scoring position. Figure that out.

I would punch Contreras in his weak-minded stubborn ass face
