QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Are you just talking about one half season, or their entire minor league career? Do you think he is this once-in-a-lifetime prospect because of just one half season? Because Reed and Crede certainly had better minor league careers than Fields. Check the stats. Face it, you overstated...by a lot. Its his second full season, and Crede was never the hitter Fields has been this year.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) First, I'll believe it when I see BA rank him that highly. Second, Jeremy Reed was a top 10 MLB prospect too. Prospects are just maybes. If we can trade him to upgrade the team, we have to do it. Hes a much better player than Reed was at this age. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) I love fan exuberance. I appreciate the hyperbole, but I prefer realism. ok, should we list stats?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Ok, I guess if you're talking in terms of best Sox hitting prospects this post makes a little more sense but still not enough. Fields hasn't even done this for a full season at any level. This is the same guy who put up a .750 OPS at Birmingham last year with 142 strikeouts compared to 55 walks. Let's not get ahead of ourselves now. Based on his stats this year, he is probably the best hitting prospect we have had in some time. If you would like to compare him to the other players, go ahead and post stats. he is better that BA was, Borchard, Reed, Morse, Young.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) My point is that he isn't a great prospect. He's a good prospect. And if we can trade him to upgrade this team because we have a shot at the WS this year, then we should. Have I not been clear about that? He's a great prospect. Probably the best hitting prospect in quite some time.

QUOTE(MichiganBorn @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) I would hold off on that as of yet. Its still way early. Nope, even inbred non-educated people from Michigan should know how to count this race.

I will say this now. The division race, is over. Congrats to the Tigers, they have played amazingly.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) Why do I get the feeling Ozzie will pinch hit Mackowiak for BA if anyone is on base? Of course, because he obviously cant hit righties. -

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Starting pitching was not the problem today. 2ER in 7 IP is great. execution, execution execution this team doesnt freaking execute. -

Fact is, this team doesnt have the chip on its shoulders like last years team. They cant execute like them, and they dont do the little things. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) WHO CARES? This isn't Widgers fault, nor is it Ozzie's. It's been a close, good game. You can't blame people for that. well you can blame the people who can only muster one freaking run. Or the players who let Brian Anderson become our best offensive threat in this game. Or the middle of the order which has been non existant for 99 percent of the last 2 series. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) BTW, even Chris Singleton was questiong why Widger was in the game on the pregame show. Its true. AJP is not that bad against LHP, and he calls a much better game. There is no reason to sit him today. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Why is the lineup awful, Podsednik hasn't been doing much in this series anyways. I would rather have Ozuna in the lineup vs. Rogers than Mackowiak. I would definitely have Pierzynski in there though, even though it's a day after nite game. Pierzynski really brings the competitive juices and this is a huge game. Umm. because you are starting RH batters just plainly for the fact that they are RH. Widger is god awful at the plate and behind it. With him starting today, JC will give up at least 4 runs if not more. -
Anyone thinking we won't make a move at all?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) I think a lot of us want bullpen help because we want to take McCarthy out of the pen and throw him into the rotation to replace Garcia/Vazquez. So, we'd then have a hole in the pen. Ditto. BMAC is not really that huge of a bullpen arm. He isnt the most effective rightly, nor the most important arm out there. You want to move him into the rotation? Fine. That just means Riske gets more appearences, which is great. -

RockRaines replied to Frankensteiner's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I dont understand why everyone has a boner for picking up relief help. Our bullpen is not the issue at all. The back end of it is strong, and Riske was solidified the middle. Not to mention bullpen pitchers are probably the most fickle and overrated players in the game of baseball. Look at Cliff Polite, how much would someone have paid for him last year. Now he is spiff. It makes no sense. -

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) i understand what u mean but in the end, its still 5 runs, no matter how u slice it. yes, but thats why we look at more than statistics. I thought he pitched pretty damn good tonight. Hopefully he can continue the trend and next time not hang the slider. -

QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) Sorry i thought Javy pitched great.... you guys can get all shorts in a bunch over some seeing eye hits and bad defense.... I really dont care... I dunno why AJ didnt call an inside FB... but whatever well it was thw wrong pitch in the situation and Monroe just left his hands back enough. It sucks too because their lineup is mostly dead pull hitters, so in that situation something outside would have been best. -

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) jeez, who the f' cares if they were bloop hits, "should have been caught" hits, etc. 5 runs is 5 runs. Not really. I mean, he pitched extremely well except for one pitch. Im dissapointed in the runs, but the sweat on his hand that caused him to hang the pitch sucks. -

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) No Hawk, MACK COST US FOUR RUNS. Uribe could have turned the damn double play to end the inning if Mack isn't picking his ass out there. Oh come on. One bad pitch, and we are down, it happens. They got some seeing eye shots and this happens. We will come back.
